Yes, really, thank you everyone who dowloaded this series. Being American, I became aquainted with AbFab many years ago and have heard that Dawn French also had her own series. I have been curious for some time what it was like. Now I am hooked. These characters are absolutely endearing, as odd or pretentious as some of them may be. Quite an accomplishment! Thanks again!

I also watched this on PBS(WTTW) here in Chicago and ultimately bought the whole series on DVD. This was my first knowledge of Dawn French and have since become a huge fan of hers(and Jennifer Saunders as well). They are both brilliant and definitely the UK's comedic treasures.

My dad hated this show. He was a prehistoric dinosaur ultra-conservative and already didn’t like the show because it was about a female vicar, and apparently only men should have the top job in a church. “Don’t blame me, take it up with my lord,” he’d say. The fact that she’s sane - a “liberal” vicar - just added to his distaste. I think one of the last things he said to me was that he wanted to institute a religious litmus test in order to immigrate to Canada. Makes me appreciate the show even more.

According to official documentation of the program, he was 102 which would have made him 25 at the time he started, which is the minimum age at which a priest can be ordained. I remember doing this calculation at the time and being somewhat puzzled. Vicars continuing into their eighties is not uncommon, but 102 would be something else. Preston Lockwood was actually in his early 80s when he played Rev Pottle, and died a couple of years later. He seemed to have the parsonical voice down to a tee, although his caricature of the prayers is a bit extreme.

The Vicar of Dibley Wikipedia page says that the soloist singing the theme is George Humphreys. “The theme music was a setting of Psalm 23 composed by Howard Goodall, and was performed by the choir of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, with George Humphreys singing the solo. The conductor was Stephen Darlington”

I promise 100% that I'm not being racist at all, but Owen's west country farmer accent kind of makes him sound like a black rapper when he goes on talking about stuff, even though this programme has a rural setting, instead of an urban one!
