@@josephinebennington7247 We can call it wisdom I suppose. I certainly like intelligent humour in places, but I suppose I just used to relax at those times, knowing that I was going to smile. I didn’t get too worried about Boycie’s business dealings, or the Driscoll brothers methods of protection, and as for that nasty Jim Broadbent character, I certainly hated him, but just left it alone when the program finished. The big one we used to carry on at work the following day was The Rise and Fall of Reggie Perrin. That was so ridiculous, but we could relate to it. I had always avoided Fawlty Towers, because I had never liked anything to do with Monty Python, but when people were saying I was like Basil, I just had to watch. I was hooked immediately.

As in "where is," and the other hears it as "WEARS the soap," as in "does it wear the soap"... so she replies "yes, it does rather," meaning that it does, in fact, wear the soap. So really it's just an intellectual remark on the inefficiency of contractions in the English language, in the form of a joke.
