Absolutely brilliant. I was too young to remember him as a player, but as a manager, probably the only one where I was genuinely angry when he left. There must be a role for him at the club!!

Absolutely superb again fellers. 12 out of 10 as usual and 15 out of 10 for the series. Really looking forward to Ian Taylor next. I wish there was a way we could get John involved in the Club in some aspect or other today. You can see he IS Mr Aston Villa. He exudes so much confidence and class and yet you can see that he still hurts over the "nearly" times when we were always up there, around and about the top, but never quite made it across the line. John has an air of reassuring calmness about him. The Club is really in his heart and always will be. Brucie would do well to just have him around the place and if I were in the manager's shoes I would gather together the whole squad, sit them down and make them watch every one of your videos. His "aura" is contagious. The current players then might understand the real passion at this club. They could leave that room feeling positive and confident ready to really set about putting the Gremlins to the sword and putting Aston Villa back on the road to where we belong - right up there in the top echelons of British football. Clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, and Newcastle and Brighton at the top the Championship cannot touch Aston Villa for history. Our founders were the forefathers of league football. The forefathers of the FA Cup. Our Trophy Room is packed to the rafters with genuine trophies (not just some pre-season competition trophies like some other clubs I could mention) and the Club's history shouts at you wherever you are within Villa Park. People like John breed that type of success and a sense of inheritence. A sense of obligation to carry on the job of those who have gone before and to tread the path that they have trodden previously - and, who knows, maybe even exceed those achievements? It was players, Coaches and Managers of the ilk of John Gregory that put those trophies into that packed out room. John wasn't an exceptional player - but he was an honest hard working one who gave everything every game. He was a great Coach - and we missed him badly when he left us to pursue a managerial career elsewhere. When he was called upon in our hour of need, he came back instantly and was a superb Manager who raised already high expectations to inter-stellar levels. Many of us (old 'un's, as we now are) felt at the time that "Deadly" wasn't prepared to go the extra yard and take the risk to put Aston Villa genuinely up there with the big boys. On a level playing field. As John said, Doug wanted to keep the bank balance positive at all costs. Yes, admirable in many ways but a lot of people, myself included (and obviously John too from what he said,) were convinced that we would have made that step up seamlessly and with Doug's overseeing eye we would not have sunk into the abyss that swallowed Leeds for all these years. We would, I'm sure, have reaped the financial benefits of the European escapades that we would inevitably have been involved in and I think, with John in charge, we would have been very successful during the process too. Oh happy days. They can't come back soon enough. UTV VTID

Brilliant series with JG, highly fascinating insight about his time as Villa boss, he was one of my favourite Villa managers. Glad you guys was able to interview him so we could learn more from the man himself about his time in the job, especially the way it ended. Look forward to the Ian Taylor interview! UTV.

It's the pain in his voice that says it all about how much he loves the Villa. Definitely my favourite Villa manager ever, just such a top, top bloke. Remember when we got stuffed at Doncaster in 2005 live on tele and he was the pundit with his claret and blue tie looking so gutted...just shows what a true Villa man he is, he was clearly as shellshocked as the rest of us. Atletico Madrid in the UEFA cup, sending cov down, signing Mellberg and JPA amongst others (anyone remember Ferrarasi or Neil Tarrant? Haha) and how to this day his desire to see Villa succeed means he will always be a hero. John Gregory, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you've done for AVFC. Hold your head high mate...those that witnessed those years will never forget your desire to put Villa back where they belong. Martin o Neill isn't fit to clean your boots, you are actually genuine, a real class act.

Fantastic series guys loved every minute of it. Wonderful to hear someone who is so passionate about our club and who is Villa through and through. I've been fortunate to watch Villa with JG as a player, coach and manager. I just wish we could find more people like him to play for, coach and manage the club today! The Cup Final was disappointing from the game and result point of view but he got us there and we as fans could at least enjoy being in the FA Cup Final for the first time in decades! I remember me and a mate trying to get tickets through the Royal Navy FA and we ended up with 2 tickets, a tenner each with 'very restricted views'. We got to Wembley and found ourselves in the Olympic Gallery at the Villa end, the restricted view was the ITV studio blocked our view of the crowd down the side of the pitch opposite the Royal Box! We had a perfect view of the pitch! We ended up talking to another fan at the bar they had up there, he was 6 seats further in than us and his ticket cost him £120!!!! Despite the result we had a great day out and we thank JG and the lads for getting us there! I'm sure if Doug Ellis had given JG the backing he would have taken us to the next level but alas we will never know. Great series again guys, keep up the great work! UTV

Amazing video guys. I was absolutely gutted when I heard over the wireless that Gregory had left the club more so than any other manager since I’ve supported villa (from 92 to this day) He’s been my favourite manager supporting the club you can tell he love us as much as our fans. So much love for this guy. Loved the memories of his time at the club. 1999/2000 we’re on the march with Gregory’s army we’re all going to Wembley Great times Up the villa

Great series. He really was a good manager wasn't he? I wonder if he'd ever come back, I'm sure he would but would he ever be offered the chance? Shame it ended the way it did, you can tell from these videos how much he wanted to be successful and just how much he loves the club. Looking forward to the Ian Taylor videos! Good work boys!
