About location: We retired to 20 miles SE of Jacksonville and selected a place that is not on the water or in a flood plain. There was a beautiful place right on the bay in Fort Myers that we considered but decided against specifcally because of hurricanes and storm surge. Thank goodness! I'm praying for those people down there.

I think you did fine in your preparations for the storm and yes, The Villages did get lucky. Better to prepare adequately and not need it than have damage or losses if the storm's path had not veered at the last moment as Ian did. I like the whistle idea Linda.

I like the questions first. Also Houston’s CenterPoint Energy sent my nephew to lead 55 trucks with crews to Florida. They waited in Sandford for the storm to be over before beginning their work. Close to you guys! Thanks for the hurricane update also

First, what a beautiful couple the two of you are. No one, no one gets it right all the time. Integrity is earned by apologizing when you realize that you made a mistake. So glad you guys were safe at your home. Well prepared Indiana style! Midwesterners have to prepare for ice storms, tornadoes, sheer wind damage, flood, snow storms, heat waves of 100+ degrees, etc. Midwesterners KNOW how to prepare for weather events. My 87 yo dad is in Venice, FL and is still without cell phone and electricity. Each day that passes compounds issues when you don't have amenities for basic living. After our ice storm in '07, I sent my entire family emergency preparedness food/items. Guess what my dad is using for survival now? When you live in Florida (and really anywhere nowadays...) you MUST be prepared for the worst and praise God when the safety blessings arise. NEVER skimp on emergency prepareness. Whistle--GREAT idea! In the darkness, wind blowing, rain pounding, flooding waters, in a damaged home you can find each other. More importantly, the rescue teams can find you! Ask any 1st responder who has to go into these disaster areas. If they hear a whistle they can find you and rescue you. Once again, great job with the show! Suggestion-fund raiser from your viewers to help those affected by the storm. Maybe several Village You Tube channels can come together and donate? You Tube channels are a family community. I am sure many would like to help.

I live in Fort Myers, North of the airport. We didn't think it was going to hit here till the day of the storm. Even that morning, we were told Venice...which is still about an hour away, so we thought we'd get a brush. We evacuated for Irma, but rode this one out. Our house is block and 6 years old with tile roof and impact glass. We had minimal damage...just one screen detached from pool cage and some palm fronds down. Just like in Irma, we never lost power. It was a VERY long day and I think I was more afraid of losing power than the actual storm. We have a great community here, though, and we will come back from this.

I'm in Orlando and we had a lot of flooding in our neighborhood. Kind neighbors built a barricade to stop water from flooding my garage. Finally got my car out of the garage on Saturday. We live on the southern coast of Maine. My brother in law was visiting and passed away July of 2021. He wanted to be buried. From Boston to Arizona it would have cost $15,000 to fly him back. The decision to have him cremated was made. They carried the ashes back. Glad you were spared from the hurricane. The snowbirds should be leaving here soon!

Hi Friends 😊 can’t watch video yet still wo power & I’m at 10% on my phone ! AT&T failed :/ could not get messages out to loved ones ! I’m in Fort Myers FL will have one year in Oct 17th and the place is DESTROYED! :/ 😭 WE survived under the steps in closet … had life jackets bc they said we might get storm surge & flood 🙏 didn’t happen 🙏 Was my DIL myself & 2 Weiner dogs … who were absolutely calm & slept !!! We were in closet from 1PM -9PM NEVER had the calm. .. high horrible winds CONSTANT like a train . We could hear stuff banging around & it was frightening!!! Took turns doing Recon to 2nd level … seeing ALL the trees down & stuff flying around 😮 My Son (Sheriff) was activated Tuesday & were put up in Rec Center to be Available as soon as it was safe to go out! He was actually scheduled to be on vacation starting Wednesday:/ I was scheduled to fly out this morning to see my Daughter & Grandson in Az … Just happy to be ALIVE & all damage can be repaired (my Condo is 5 miles from my Sons) … hoping we get power today .. ? Our generator was a FAIL & we will be throwing out refrigerator/freezer food today ! Lines are long for gas one guy just called into radio station waited 7 hours! My little radio shack radio that requires 2 AA batteries was our saving grace & we still have it on! The station has people calling in with updates on their locations & places to go for supplies ! My DIL.& myself have not seen the devastation… only a few videos my Son shared :/ … they will have no time off 12 hour days ! I’m so PROUD of him ….
