The animation of Oikawa getting up after his set to Iwaizumi while thinking *Talent is something you bloom, Instinct is something you polish* not only solidified Haikyuu as my favorite anime/manga ever but Oikawa as my favorite character from the series. I even have his jacket and I use it when jogging at night.

I love how the series portrays the relationship between Iwaizumi and Oikawa. On the surface, it may seem that Oikawa just unintentionally pisses Iwaizumi off to no end, but Iwaizumi shows it's deeper than that. Iwaizumi wholeheartedly believes that Oikawa will make it to the top and acknowledges his skills as a player, and he's there to beat it into Oikawa he's got other players behind him that he can get the most skill out of. And Oikawa proved Iwaizumi right

I know its sick and all but I kinda wish it was instead just the Scene but instead of pointing the panel is just everything else shaded out and only his line of sight to iwaizumi. It would of just been so much more in character but oml the finger point was hype.

This why he's called as the 'Great King". I mean who can't be an inspiration more than a person who can't fight in the midair for his team but wants to win by his talent in setting (I know he can serve and do dumps while in front row but he can't do it more often). Just by his sets he wanted to win Ushijima. He's so much of an inspiration for a person like me who dwelled on my inferiority complex for 13 years. My heart goes calm while I think I can break my limits like Oikawa-san did. By the way this is the best essay on Oikawa-san in KZbin. Thank you so much. ❤

I found Haikyuu when I needed a series that reflected the human side of athletes, it was Oikawa I related to the most other than Daichi. Oikawa reflected the samurai discipline of honing one's skills to extreme excellence all while continuously pursuing perfection, along with the reality of you can't beat someone who never quits, one day he will beat everyone, and he will by doing it his way.
@mayal3n4 ай бұрын
He's such a realistic character, he shows in the manga and anime that he is so humane. By far the most relatable character shown, as he is an athlete showing his ups and downs.
@DragonStar5244 ай бұрын
Its true that Oikawa wasnt going to surpass or beat players like Ushiwaka, but Oikawa made the fatal mistake of comparing himself to other players. The only way we can truly grow is if we compare ourselves to ourselves. And we may surprise the other players we once sought to surpass with how much we've improved and grown.
@tann_man2 ай бұрын
Oikawa is my favorite character. His insecurities match my own. I trained 100 butterfly for 15 years. Everyone I know bar a few teammates and competitors believe I'm extraordinarily talented but I'm routinely obliterated by men who were born better, taller faster. I've put in the work and reached my max potential and it's still not enough to beat some of those monsters. Eventually you just have to accept life isn't fair or equal, genes matter and although I'll never be the top 0.00001% I'm still incredibly lucky and healthy and glad to be relatively talented and have made as far as I have.

I was already so happy when I saw Kageyama and Hinata together again but when I saw they were going to play against Oikawa I felt like it was the best conclusion possible. We didn't even need to know who was going to win, it was already perfect.
@hish33p324 ай бұрын
I'll just copy paste my og comment here since the og video is gone: 37:20 The best part is that, even if Team Japan loses to Argentina and Oikawa, it would make sense both narratively and realistically, since Hinata and Kageyama has nothing to lose by losing this match, they're just as strong as the International players and Oikawa, if not even better, and both teams feel like the protagonist and antagonist, if Japan wins, Japan gets their revenge while Oikawa fails his yet again, and if Argentina wins, Oikawa finally gets his revenge, Team Japan crumbles yet again to sheer height and power, and yet either one winning won't be proof of anything. Argentina winning would mean Japan didn't lose because their best player (most likely the best) is from Japan, and Japan winning would mean they finally overcame that wall of height and strength, whilst beating one of their best players who's on the other team. But after everything that has happened, I truly believe that Oikawa and Argentina really did win this final match of the story.

The most beautiful moment when I read the manga was when I only understood the Similarities between Oikawa and Hinata when they were put in those chapters together, it's eye-opening how I could miss how similar these two what they're fighting to prove and improve themselves every time. 1. How both have a role model that inspires them Little Giant-Hinata Argentina setter-Oikawa 2. How Oikawa sees Geniuses and how Hinata sees Tall people, they are not those. They know that's why they are challenged to improve and to prove themselves to others. And they both chose the hard path by not giving up 3. They even go miles to go out of their comfort zone after graduation to go to a different country to train. Not only 1 but 2 crazy people out there like they say 4. And of course how they love volleyball 5. And it was magnificently portrayed when it shows... -Hinata has moments of homesickness and feels left behind etc -Oikawa even at one time pretends to quit, even feeling something is lacking when it's not difficult as Pro Like two threads that are all jumbled and have one knot when stretching They both Rediscover the BASIC again and how the FUN it is to play 6. In the end, they both get recharged after connecting with each other Oikawa inspired by Hinata the fun of always seeing yourself Level up and the Fun in it like a beginner Hinata was inspired by Oikawa's past story and even learned to think about what was next, observe and try new things Finally, that panel when they shake hands is like a line, a starting point for them, for me maybe that's why Oikawa finally calls Hinata, Shoyo not Chibi-chan anymore not because not just he's grown up. But also an acknowledgment that they both start from here. Truly an antagonist and protagonist beautiful declaration moment. 7. And Boom! -Introduction of Hinata again to Msby -Oikawa's Introduction as an Argentina Player Both you can never forget and become well-known from then on. Actually, it becomes even crazier when I think how THAT Oikawa was never truly known in National HS and even never got a chance to play, His word of defeating EVERYONE becomes more impactful and meaningful every time I remember it. Finally his CHANCE BALL!

Oikawa Toru, along with Reigen Arataka and Lucy Steel, might be my favourite anime character ever. They're ordinary people, surrounded by gifted monsters, but they do extraordinary things and achieve unbelievable results with what little natural ability they have. I love his shift in mindset about interpreting "talent" as something that you can just make bloom through hard work, rather than a god-given ability that separates the world into an immutable division of haves and have-nots.

i remember seeing this video before it was taken down before, if i'm not mistaken, a year or two(?) ago? I know it was at least quite a while after the manga finished, since I was keeping up with the new chapters as they were released at the time...but I remember this video leaving quite the impression on me because was so well edited and put together, and it managed to talk about something that I felt like many people were overlooking at the time, the journey and development of Oikawa and how perfect the final manga ending was as a culmination of his entire character. A bit late to the party, but I have never felt bad for Oikawa. Despite all the hard work he put in and his genius plays, I could never connect completely to him, so whether he lost to his biggest rival or to anyone else, I either felt incredible joy or was like „Yeah that was to be expected“ My biggest problem with Oikawa is that he is not this super perfect as the series sometimes portraits it: He is cocky, he lets himself provoke, he is not a good captain (the other third years don‘t take him serious, Kyotani ignores him, he is sometimes away and doesn‘t communicate it with his team) and his mindset is diminishing his success. He is his own biggest barrier and simply cannot improve with his team if he keeps on struggling with himself.

I really hated Oikawa after he beat Hinata and Kageyama, I remember feeling a weight on my chest when they were down and the anger I felt. I prayed and waited for them to get their revenge and felt a wave of satisfaction and triumph when they did. But after the fact when we got to learn more about Oikawa I started to understand that even he suffered chasing for the top. He was a great antagonist, but could have even been the portagonist of his own anime and it'd have been amazing. Still kinda hate him for the first time he beat them tho😂
