Mido continues to be a sales leader in Latin America. Here, in Mexico, they are sold everywhere. You may not find a dealer from Seiko or Omega, but yes one from Mido.

Hello Tim, this really is a beautiful watch. I have an original version in Silver from the late 60s early 70s from my father, which he bought in Hong Kong at that time. Mine has Commander Ocean Star datoday all on the dial. Mine has hacking, quickset day and quickset date, all via an ETA movement I am pretty certain, as I had a look inside. You access the movement via the front by removing the plexi crystal and the pull release stem. You may remember that I sent you an image of my Mido via a IG DM. The other lovely little often missed feature is that the crystal has a tiny Mido logo etched into the very centre, only if you have the original crystal of course. You need this watch in your collection. In stainless steel, it is even more stunning, especially on a mesh strap. It’s a brilliant dress watch. It’s very accurate too @ +1s per day. BR, TC

No etching. So I suppose the crystal was replaced during the last service.

@@CasebackWatches I think so. I did some research on the movement in my model and I think it is the ETA 2836, dating from 1974 onwards (according to the brilliant ranfft watch movement database). It runs at 28800 bph, has hacking, quickest day and date. My watch, as far as I know, has never been serviced and is keeping excellent time. On my timegrapher it is showing an amplitude of 240 deg., which is still pretty good. As per your previous discussions, no need for a service until it stops giving good time (don't fix it if it ain't broke as they say). Alles Gute!!

I have one of the modern reissues. It's a great watch running -. 3 seconds a day, unfortunately on the latest versions they got rid of the cork and now it's just a gasket in its place. I've been using the watch for months everyday now and honestly I think I'll only stop once I have the two tone datejust I want.

My quartz Braun BN0021 BKBKG has the same concealed lugs which for some reason feels very odd when i (rarely) wear it,not helped by the non tapering strap,the Mido strangely looks ok....................

Good question. This was one serviced by an independent watchmaker here in Hamburg/Germany. But the guy is sort of a specialist for older watches. So unfortunately I cannot say no or yes in general. Depends on your location I guess.

Hi Tim. I'm about to sell my first watch on Chrono24. One of your videos has got me worried. How do I protect myself from the buyer saying there was nothing in the box and getting his money back from Chrono24 plus my watch?

This is a very good question. I'm going to produce a Q&A video in December and I will cover this. But I have to contact Chrono24 to get more information how they handle those cases. So please be patient. If you cannot wait: Google the buyer, avoid "difficult" countries (i.e. Nigeria), look for suspicious signs. There is no 100% protections, but on the other hand about 99% of watch buyers are pretty normal people.
