Sailing past wild landscapes teaming with ancient history. Small towns scraping their existence out of the steep stone mountains. And a resilient people with a ferocious past. This week our plan is to sail to one of the most Isolated and untamed regions of Greece to tap into it’s violent past. But before we can do any of that we’ve got a serious engine issue that we need to deal with. While escaping the trappings of civilization has it’s benefits, the ability to easily source engine parts is not one of them. Last week we were able to put in an order for the part we need… I think. Then we’ve got to do some engine surgery before we can head out to sea in search of one of Greece’s most beautiful and treacherous regions.

Well, I've been watching KZbin sailing channels for a long time and, this episode is likely the most well edited, narrated episode I've ever seen! The commentary on Greek culture, the hose repair segment, the hike to the tower, and your discussion on tourism and small towns was so interesting and well crafted. Of course, Isabella was brilliant as always.

Hi! In water-cooled engines, when one of the hoses deteriorates and starts to leak, the condition of all the other water hoses is the same. Their expiration date has already expired! Change them all, or, in a very short time, one of those water hoses could burst, leaving you without an engine, at a time when you need it most. A boat is the same as a plane. Boats have a port, and planes have an airport. There is no shoulder on the high seas. Change all the hoses soon, so you have a reliable engine.

The history added to each episode gives each lanscape their true value...on the gastronomic side, lately it remembered me of A.Bourdain running away from the tourist traps seeking the authentic... Greece has soo much material for production and it is being done masterfully...the base is good, specially remebering the days when producing anchored during the pandemia. Well done..

It is quite common for Greeks to have olive groves on the islands. It provides a second income to families. Many who work in seasonal occupations like hotels, summer restaurants, gift shops or any tourist based occupations. The tourist season runs from April-May until the end of October. Olive harvest begins in late October and can end in January-February. That cemetery in Mani might be a family "plot" since land is limited it is common for a crypt to be reused by other family members when they pass. Bodies will be exhumed when the crypt is needed and bones placed in a metal container with the name of the relative on it and be placed within the upper chamber of the crypt. As for the pronunciation of Mani is Mah-née, where the a sounds like ah and the I is pronounced like ē. Crete comes in second to vendettas in Greece after Mani.

The rock on those hills was not there several thousand years ago. It was created by erosion from farming using the mold board plow. This was the farming method back then. However, the erosion has completely stripped the soil away to nothing. Today with farming using the methods I implemented on my farm, there is zero erosion of the soil. It took 20 years of dedicated development effort to learn how to do this using some of the best research minds the earth has created. But we did it. I am proud of the achievement. It is too late for this region. The soil is gone forever. If we could create soil from these rocks, then the farming methods I use in Washington state would work as well in Greece. Hope you enjoyed the history of farming.

Stress can be an absolute Sod to deal with. My father was getting so stressed Out about everything, My Sister brought him a pile of cigars and a packet of Pipe tobacco back from the Caribbean - he had given up Smoking maybe 30 years prior, and in his early eighties, nothing to worrynabout right ? well the difference was staggering, and every time I hit the Continent, I brought him a pile of Cigars back, heck even Cuban ones were cheap in Hungary. And even as he started going down with Statins caused Dementia, his stressed out blowups were extremely rare, and mostly he was all smiles and Happy, and very glad to say, when he finally passed in his 90's after all the Stories about him, everyone left his Funeral Service Smiling, with his final Nurses saying - Why are you always so Happy and Smiling Doug ? Well there's No Point in Being Sad and Niserable is There, he replied. ❤ RIP Dad.

Your childs smile is a ray of sunshine. On a technical note... it is good practice to change all the rubber hoses at once , they are probably the same age and are in a similar state , at least the ones that feed that heat exchanger are prone to failure subject to vibration. Dont want to jinx it but keep it in mind. Best of luck.

I don’t know if you know, but you can get a Loctite kit called an “O” Ring Kit. This has all of the “O” Ring rubber diameters in long lengths which you can cut to length to make any loop diameter “O” you need. Once cut. The ends of the rubber are bonded together with the Loctite glue included in the kit. You no longer have to hang around waiting for an “O” ring spare part to turn up. How ever, watching your hose adventure there, the same thing can be done for engine hoses, but via a different method. Thinking, thinking…!

I will tell you my secret to release the stress of having tons of extra people migrating into the area that I have chosen to park my house named “Bad Habits”. Too many neighbors here is my cure, I crank up my generator and pull out my guitar amplifier, guitar, and a full bottle of Captain Morgan’s spiced rum. Then I start to show all my new uninvited neighbors that I really don’t know how to play the guitar and quite possibly I am tone deaf. You should continue with your performance until at least 5:00 AM… then act like you are calling it quits and just hang out in the cabin and watch all your new neighbors pull up anchors and head to waters with more room.

For what it's worth, I (for the second time now) think that the marine sales owner was saying that you should put the olive oil on Isa's cheek for the redness. I'm not saying I'm right (or that he is) but that's what I thought he was trying to convey on the last video and he motioned the same way this time when gesturing about the oil. Who knows, maybe the old ways (naturopathy) know something that the doctors don't? Wouldn't hurt to try anyway. Glad you got the hose sourced and installed!

It is good to see that they make those engines so they are so easy to repair. Jordan, you are a hardcore ship captain, chief mechanic and baby washer. Isn't it great to be a dad and own a mobile home? Greece is beautiful even when the parking lot is full. You do know you are right on the edge of WW3. Mideast is blowing up and Turkey and Greece are in a toxic relationship. Russia is trying to export the war to the middle east to release the pressure on them in the Ukraine and you are sitting in the middle of it all having fun. Don't get too oblivious to all that is going on around you. Love you guys. Stay safe.

For example, in a tourist area, a gyro will have lettuce, tomaotes, onions and tzatiki, because that what it xomes with here. Ut where we lived in Northern Greece, a gyro jad frech fries stuffed into it, and they offered you ketchup and mustard, and it cmae on a kaoser roll :p.
