Honestly I feel like this character should disable locking. If youre going to have a character whose gimmick is forcing rerolls it should be a double edged sword. Massive access to different items to get stronger, but forced to sometimes pass over good stuff. Itd be a more interesting trade off than just a chunk of damage reduction.

I was thinking the same thing, lower or get rid of the damage penalty and just disable locking

Also, if you are going to keep a damage penalty, ensure that engineering cannot be bought since engineering items are the "get out of jail" card of damage penalties. But yeah, as soon as I saw that the character could still lock I was like "meh".

I feel like more games should treat knockback the same way terraria did, always away from the player. Its a much easier calculation (better performance) and means the player is never punished for having a stat

those metal detectors felt like having 400 harvesting. you came out of every wave with 700-1000 materials late game :)

this feels like they had a neat idea and wanted to disable locking but didnt have the ability to change that in a way that worked, so they just slapped a damage down on it and called it a day

If I had to change VIP my alterations Damage mods are now lowered by 25% instead The starting coupon is now a -10% item price Locking’s disabled.(Locked weapons and items reroll anyways so that it doesn’t matter if anything’s locked.) All engieering items are removed from the shop pool(Wrenches and screwdrivers included) Anyways I saw VIP was allowed to use claw as a starting weapon. That could somewhat bypass the reduced damage mods as it can double dip with attack speed by using it as flat damage

Have you tried Pickle Pete? They play a lot alike but stylistically I think Pete has the edge. Brotato feels like a noir version of Pickle Pete, in the sense that it's had its liveliness and joy taken out. Pete has whimsy.

For what it's worth, and I'm leaving this comment early so maybe you discuss this anyway, but it states in the engineering tooltip that structures aren't affected by the primary stats. Given how piercing damage applies, I think that does quite literally mean that anything on the secondary stat screen should apply
