@CyberSoldat8 жыл бұрын
InTheZoneAXC Even if vipers cost the same the Vette would be more common still. Sadly though the Viper suffers from bad dealer markups, Price tag of a new Viper is like 95.9k a friend of mine saw a standard Viper model at a dealer for 130k... That's what turns people away. Why spend like 30-40k more on a car when you can buy a Vette for like 80k that can keep up with it. I love the Viper it's my favorite car but Dodge lacks the ability to market them correctly.
@InTheZoneAXC8 жыл бұрын
This is why you simply don't go to one dealer, see a mark up and assume it's like that across the nation. You can find several 2015 or 2015 Viper's between $80-$90k. Again, seems like everyone and their grandma's drive a Vette. And it's GM, the absolute worst in the car business. Why people even support GM is beyond any logical reasoning. They will go as far with the lowest quality parts/equipment as they can get away with and have proven it with their ridiculous recall history, bailouts, and whatever else you could think of. Never have cared for Vette's, just tired of seeing them everywhere. And you're reasoning for buying a Vette over a Viper due to price for performance, the same amount you spend on a Vette you could find a low mileage GTR for the same price or a little more and it would smoke it wherever you go with the Vette. And no, I'm not a fan of the open mouth and pulled back eyes on the new vipers and I'm not a fan of the hideous 2003-2010 Viper's. Give me a 96-02 GTS...

Bahahah you think this car cost less than $200K ??
@g00dl00kinb0i10 жыл бұрын
Atwan Johnson No I assume, but I know there's only a handful of American cars that cost this much, excluding Classics, there's the Hennessy Venom GT, SSC Ultimate Aero, Saleen S7/S7 TT, the Ford GT, the LS7 powered Falcon F7.....and that's it for me I'm tired after work, if you can come up with more production or small production US cars @ 200k, good for you. That's all I need to know this Viper was nowhere near 200k, the '10 ACR-X was just 125k @ base price, this is "just" a tuned '10 or older ACR, so what the hell are you talking about ? If you think the mods were even $50k, not to talk about 75k, then you should really be laughing at yourself....

Atwan Johnson Well in 2010 a Viper ACR X was $110,000..It isn't street legal though... The Standard Viper ACR is street legal and costs $12,000 less and does the Nurburgring in 7:12 That's one hell of a good price I would say.

Holy hell thats incredible!! The Porsche 918 isn't too much faster than the ACR around the Ring. The ACR being 1/3 of the price of a 918 and the 918 being all wheel drive with hybrid technology. Too bad the One:1 couldn't get a lap time in around the Ring.
@Jangle200712 жыл бұрын
The driver skill to shepard this beast around the ring is impressive. What caught my eye, however, is how many times the driver was up on the shoulders of the circuit. In the past, this was usually avoided by drivers as it upset the balance and handling at high speed in ways that could have unpredictable and dire consequences. The ACR-X looked really poised, as did the ACR at 7:12 record. Props to Dodge for a great machine.

Following is a list of maximum theoretical speeds (mph) that this particular Viper SRT10 ACR-X should reach: 65.17, 95.25, 133.35, 173.36, 216.70, 346.72 For example, when you hear the engine bouncing off the rev-limiter in 3rd gear at 3:35 and again at 3:37, the speed of the car is just above 130 mph. The data used to calculate the above speeds were obtained from Chrysler's online specification page, assuming 100% tire tread remaining and that the engine's fuel cut-off kicks in at 6,400 rpm.

this is pure mastery of an untamed beast known to the world as Viper !!!
@johnbarron426511 жыл бұрын
I found a way to determine the speed of the car given a downforce reading. Chrysler claims that this car produces 1,100 lbs of aerodynamic downforce at 150 mph. Given that downforce varies directly with the square of speed by a constant, we construct: 1100 lbs = k (150 mph)^2 Solving for k yields 11/225~.0489 Rearrange the equation: Speed = sqrt(downforce x 225/11) I observe a peak downforce reading of 1377 lbs on the longest straight. Substituting this value into the function yields 167.83 mph.

good run! only 2 seconds slower than the '16 Viper ACR run at the 'Green Hell'..a Go Fund Me financed effort by a few guys. ..there's the usual debate on this thread and, yes, it's rarefied air to go as fast as 7 flat on that track, regardless of price. + the Viper is very strong and tough, reliable..and flat out gorgeous..street legal. best dang deal on earth. power adders for a few thou more $ would put this thing down in the 6 min range..and you'd still be spending a lot less than the competition can offer. 6's are a tune and hot cam away, actually. the viper hit when the NSX made 270 hp and cost about the same. Ford & Chevy had cars that a new Camry or Charger sedan v6 would crush on a track when the viper debuted at 400 hp and climbed quickly from there, winning many a race the world over for yrs..places like Sebring sound familiar? Lemans? Viper was the paradigm shift that ppl all over are now enjoying the benefits of and have been for a long time. sooo..the oft repeated wonderings as to 'why they didn't sell more and are now out of production?' most ppl in the world are stupid/judgemental and sign off, sight unseen, on the 'Dodge sucks' bandwagon without even making a cursory look into things. I've owned nothing but Mopars since i started driving in '84 and..cars from '66 to 2004 in vintage, rwd, fwd, 4x4...huge V8's to lil 4 bangers..none of them were bad cars. all of them were fun, reliable and got me from A to B without undue issues.

But I find the conversation interesting, and I'll be paying further attention tot he subject, as it's of great importance in circuits such as the Nurburgring. @ironhidef1 Smaller displacement V10 tends to be high revving engine due to shorter stroke. The big displacement V10 is made for more torque and not much stress to work plus more reliable because it doesn't needs to rev higher at all. It makes a huge horsepower and torque at low rpm. The forced induction is just an artificial displacement that make an engine acts like as higher displacement engine. Smaller displacement engine would requires a lightweight car because not enough torque

@TheBryanNeill9 жыл бұрын
Just not as popular. They cost more, and are historically pretty uncomfortable to drive in as a daily car because of the huge amount of noise from the side-pipe exhaust which also produces a ton of heat which radiates through the floor panels and makes it hot inside as well. Its a car that you have to love to drive, whereas the vette is more practical. I love that Viper though, one of my all time favorites
@JerseyMikeP8 жыл бұрын
+vin russo The viper is extremely low production, since 1992 they have only produced just over 30,000 cars (24yrs) while chevy has sold 28,000 C6 Z06 in it's 8 year run of that body/model. Chevy sold 34,240 corvettes ( all models) in 2015 alone.

I'd say a Viper with some shorter gears would do better. You'd be a gear higher for most the course and that would have kept him off the rev limiter and still accelerating. He never used 6th and because of all the downforce, it flattened out in 5th. I think they have like 3.07s stock, maybe some 3.73s would "wake up" the car and get a few seconds off the lap time
@brodaymonday23678 жыл бұрын
+manfromwyoming No! Never put anything more than 3.55s on a viper. My stock 3.07s break loose at 80+mph with 20inch 345s in the rear.
@manfromwyoming8 жыл бұрын
+BroDayMonday Can break them loose. But a racing driver on a race course on a rig with huge amounts of areo and I'm guessing some sticky heated tires wouldn't have that problem. And every time he was holding it on the rev limiter he wasn't accelerating when he could be.
@brodaymonday23678 жыл бұрын
+manfromwyoming unless you want to DIE, leave the stock gears in!!
@WGPmetallica8 жыл бұрын
+manfromwyoming The beauty of the Viper is that it has so much torque shorter gears don't really benefit it that much in a racing application. It can pull hard if you're in the wrong gear and you can stay in 2nd and 3rd for about 95% of a lap anywhere.
@manfromwyoming8 жыл бұрын
+Corey H The Viper has massive torque and it's awesome but it's a top end engine, the newer ones make peak torque at 5000 rpm, so for top lap times you have to keep it up there, I'm not suggesting that everyone should put lower gears in their Vipers, but in this specific situation(mid to high speed tracks) I think lower gears would have him a gear higher, off the rev limiter and pulling all the way to the braking zones. The car has 1200lbs of aero, and he is obviously hooked up.

I take your point about using all the track, and don't dispute the strategy or the logic. But from an engineering perspective, every design element of car driven at the limit is a trade-off. I'm quibbling over minor points (see 7:30) but I suspect that these are the points that matter when attempting to shave tenths or more seconds off a circuit, and I question whether the driver wanted to be so deep in the shoulder. Let's be clear: I couldn't do what this driver does.
