Queen Elizabeth is the legendary Queen and King of the kingdoms, she hold not only 1 title, she hold 2 titles that is king and queen of the kingdom of england, since she deside to be a single queen and she didn't want to mary to other prince or king of other kingdoms or any other man in the kingdom, people declaring a rebellion to queen elizabeth because people wanted a king for the kingdom. But queen elizabeth said "i am your king and queen, i didn't want to mary to other man because, i already married to our kingdom since i became a queen" but for me she didn't want to mary because she know if she became mary to other prince or king or other man becoming a king, her power to the kingdom will decrease because that time in england, bloodline is not the bases, that time title is the bases so since she mary to other man and that man became a king, she is now no longer to be a powerful in the kingdom since she is only a queen she didn't control the troops and she is no longer to manage a war that is a kingship rule not a queen. So for me queen elizabeth is so smart to that point but her bloodline end to her.

I think it’s easy to see why she wouldn’t marry because she couldn’t find a husband from her own nobles as this would create internal division as she’d be seen favoring one noble family over others and would cause tons of infighting. She also couldn’t marry a foreign prince because at that time most nations were Catholic and the church didn’t recognize Elizabeth as being legitimate, neither as a Queen or even a person as in the eyes of the Catholic Church her parents were never married as she was a “bastard.” She was limited in being able to find a foreign husband who would not only recognize her claim but also not bring their own Catholic agenda since she and her country were majority Protestants. She couldn’t loose the support of the English Protestants by marrying a Catholic and she also, after seeing how disastrous her older sisters marriage to Philip of Spain was, wouldn’t want to loose the support of her country by marrying a man whose priorities wouldn’t be on England and no one would want to sacrifice their men to fight in another nation’s conflict the way Mary supplied troops to Phillip for him to fight his wars against France. Elizabeth also would’ve known that under law any of her property and this power as monarch would be in her husband’s name and knowing how tenuous her hold on the throne (and in effect, her life) was she wouldn’t have wanted to anger her nobles by creating division, angering Protestants by marrying a Catholic and then angering everyone else with marriage to a foreigner with no loyalty to England and who would encourage her to fund his conflicts at the expense of English life and the royal treasury.
@falynoliver812 жыл бұрын
Well said. While I don’t think initially anyways, not marrying, yet still accepting and being open to negotiations and proposals was a power play, seeing the diplomacy exorcised by other nations & dynasties bc of her “most eligible bachelorette” status definitely was a nice bonus. I think she also had a very real fear of marriage as a woman, not just a queen. She had seen, and probably still was seeing a ton of betrayal and abuse inflicted on wives by their husbands and seen how many women were cast aside left with little to no social standing and sometimes penniless or worse, at the husband’s discretion. Even Elizabeth herself had experienced the betrayal and cold heartedness of it firsthand not just from watching her father cast aside or execute wives at his fancy. But personally as her mother’s beheading also led to her father’s declaration that she was now illegitimate, in an instant he had stripped her birthright from her and essentially made it as if she didn’t exist (to the church and politically) and removing any power she had in an instant. In her eyes and experience marriage did not give a woman any real power. Only the illusion of it. It could be taken away in a heartbeat on a whim of a man. She was already powerful and wealthy. While there was a chance that marrying could increase those things for her, or even solidify them, there was a chance (arguably a much bigger one and I’m sure hers as well!) that it could very much be her undoing. It was simply not worth the risk. Plus staying open to accept proposals and negotiations meant she always had suitors should her power be threatened or her reign seriously challenged she could then marry quickly but not hastily. I think all the trauma that she experienced that led her to declare as an 8yr old that she’d “never get married” was horrible, sad and very tragic but she definitely learned caution from it. I don’t think she lost out on anything by not marrying, marriage wasn’t for love & companionship at the time, for someone of her status anyway. And she definitely used being single and (feigned)openness to marriage to her advantage and I commend her for it. I’m sure in today’s day and age where people, in most societies & situations, marry for love,there isn’t (normally) a blatant power imbalance and women and men alike can protect themselves legally. She would have a slightly better opinion of marriage.
