There is a pattern here. She belts, tension creeps in more and more she gets fatigued, she goes on vocal rest, her vocal chords recover, but she gets a bit rusty. She goes on tour, loosens up, and from there the same thing happens yet again. What I'm trying to say is, she'll be just fine.

How tho? Just because she belts all these with pure chest and without technique? That tongue retraction/tension is gonna cause her some real vocal trouble now or later. I’m sick and tired of fans who ignore the leading signs of an artist just because they like them. And no, I don’t have anything against her, but I’m picky when it comes to her voice. I just don’t think that singing like this is easy for her at all. She brings a lot of weight and chest into her belting which is 100% caused by blocking the airflow with her tongue retraction. You can see that she’s really working harder than she needs when singing. Simply put, just horrible technique for her voice. I don’t know if she started this froggy sound as a stylistic choice or if she even knows that it’s bad for her voice, but it seems like a bad habit for her to break because that’s the sound she’s known for and she has used it for years which has become a part of her muscle memory (extremely hard to break the habit). All I want for her is just to change her technique a bit so that it becomes easier and more comfortable for her to do what she loves!

The voice is definitely there. She has shown that she can do a lot more and I'm confident that she can belt above that Eb5. Yes her voice does seem to be under stress from time to time, but our bodies go through a lot and we don't know what's going on in her personal life all the time, so I think it's to be expected. Christina seems to need her time in general but when she finally gets comfortable she is unstoppable. I also think that confidence and nerves are a big thing for her. Once she is relaxed and trusting her voice those belts are as easy as breathing. But when she starts to overthink and second guess it is suddenly impossible. Nevertheless I strongly believe that she will come back at full force!!

I have been a fan of this amazing woman for over 20 years now, I’m aware that people often criticize her technique, but she’s one of very few who’s still kicking it and singing live. I think that 2010 was a turning point for her. She ruled the 00’s and when Bionic “flopped”, the bad press she was getting, it must have been really hard on her. Like, there literally was a total hate campaign going on here. People were deliberately trying to sabotage her. It was so sad and unfair to her. She was so passionate about Bionic and plans were made. She was supposed to do more music videos, tour, etc. All she knew was success when it came to her career, she is one of the best selling female artists of the 00’s, the Back to Basics tour was also one of the highest grossing tours 2 years in a row. The way I see it, Bionic was the last time she truly was passionate about a project. Lotus was a disaster in every single way. Liberation was better but never reached its full potential due lack of promotion, now, the same is happening to her Spanish project. I’m not gonna lie, Christina is my favorite forever and always because her music literally got me through hard times. But today, I might be slightly less of a fan than I used to be, and that has nothing to do with her voice because she can still sing 99% of today’s artists off the stage in 3 seconds. Its just that I don’t really like the music she’s been making, I don’t connect to it. I immensely connected to Stripped, Back to Basics and even most of Bionic. I’m still waiting for that full Soul/Jazz/Blues album. Even a Country album would be AMAZING from her. I’m not saying her new music isn’t good, it’s just that I don’t really connect to it. So I always find myself listening to her old stuff instead.
@esko7333
@esko7333 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree that she should go back to more of a soul/blues/jazz type of a style at least for on album. It suits her voice perfectly and it leaves more room for riffs and runs, improvisation in general. It might not be targeted for the big audience, but if done correctly it could really start a new peak in her career and even help the genre to become more mainstream again after this more electronic decade. She has the voice, stamina, agility, stage presence. Only thing she is missing sometimes is to tone it down a bit. I think that's why "Say Something" was a bih hit back in the day because it was easier for the mainstream to listen to.

I think people are downplaying her current vocal issues. She has been going flat on the eb5's in Beautiful pretty consistently the past few months, has used a TON more playback, and her singing has become even less fluid and more reliant on talk singing. To me just because she yelps out a D5 during a song that isn't a good indicator of her vocal condition when she is struggling to sing other parts of the song around the midbelt region. She is still supremely talented but that doesn't matter if she lacks the vocal endurance to sing fully through a single song without playback or letting her background singers take over. Also her head voice has been getting a little less relaxed and more squeezed. It is gorgeous but there is much more effort to get to and above G#5

The way I can write a whole essay about Christina's voice, but you put it just perfectly. The love-hate relationship is so strong. But when I saw her live in 2019 I cried, because no matter how bad of a technique she has, her voice is just magical. That being said, 2017 truly was the turning point for me when I just stopped expecting anything from her. With the risk of sounding offensive, this is about the time when she came back with a brand-new face. Whatever she did to her lips still haunts me to this day and I would like to erase the Accelerate MV from my memory. My point is, for someone who sings "you are beautiful, no matter what they say", the amount of surgeries and modifications she's got is appalling. And obviously her body, her choice. But it just seems to me that nowadays she cares mostly about her looks and doesn't really put that much effort into her music.

Those hate when they cant understand what true talent is and it shows based on the comments. People have been always saying her voice is strain and will loose her voice yet shes the only one left that has the power in her voice unlike many of the other divas whos actual voice have decline thats the true 🍵. You can try to analyze her voice all you want but it will never change the fact that none of y’all can even sing any song from her with the same passion and power. She knows what she is doing. Correct (i.e) healthy vocal technique just isn’t her priority. She does have her own technique… the way she uses her chest voice up in the 5th octave with little mix, the intentional tension and strain, the way she places her voice… it’s all stylistic… and there is no denying that it enables her to not only sound powerful, but also raw, aggressive, exciting in a way that a nice, pristine, crystal-clear, balanced mixed belt à la Barbra Streisand couldn’t do… her sound is different from that of all the other divas…her sound is beloved by many and on top of that she has good agility, a nice range (with her falsetto she reaches 4 octaves) and lots of soul and charisma… she knows how to emote… her belts are not her weakness, they are her money notes and the key to her signature sound. She isn’t dumb. It’s true however that with her technique she risks to harm her voice and that she can be inconsistent due to how hard it is to sing constantly that way… but luckily despite how many technique-obsessed vocal coaches predicted her down fall, she preserved her voice pretty well, certainly better than even the acclaimed Mariah and Whitney… because she knows how to do warm-ups, how to rest etc etc. She is still doing fine. Her technique isn’t bad, her technique is brilliant to achieve the sound that she wants, it’s bad for the health, but again she has found a way to compensate for that. Sure with a healthier mixing technique she could sing even higher and with less strain but she isn’t interested in that type of sound, she knows her brand and she sticks to it, I respect her for that. She is beloved by many and she is considered one of the greatest singers, proof that a healthy technique isn’t the only that matters when it comes to singing… musicality, tone, soul, charisma, range, agility, STYLE, a clear perception of her own sound, they all matter and Christina has all of these things in spades… she is way too bashed by the vocal community, but at the end of the day with the kind of impact that she’s had, she can laugh all her way to the bank and still be listed amongst the greatest singers ever by Rolling Stones (even though I hate that list)

1999 - 2010 Prime 2011 - 2017 Decline 2018 - 2022 Prime Again Not to be shady but what does it mean for x to sound “a hot mess” . In 1999 - 2021 she has performances just as strained as those referenced in the 2022 section so theres nothing especially bad about it. It may appear that those “rough” performances are happening with more frequency in 2022 but that could just be because theres less 2022 performances overall. I think this is her 2nd prime because: - Theres been a larger range than displayed previously (her first B2, her first sustained C3s, a return to G6 after a v long time) - Shes sustained C5 - D# with good clarity at least 50 different times. The Cisco Rocks performance had some good moments but she also cracked (yodeled) worse than she ever has because she didnt have the stability in her mix that she has now. Theres a video on those cracks but I refuse to link it lol - vibrato, musicality, actually singing through a song (kinda), confidence (she had NO energy during the Billionaires Tour)

Christina's heavy use of her lower (chest) register instead of middle voice / mix for her upper belts has always been peculiar to me. The style is masculine & much more common among Males who tend to favor a big woofy belt rather than a thinner mix and have bigger vocal chords to sustain it. I often feel like she's a "failed Soprano" who refused to develop a healthy middle voice / mix register. Her style has become so masculine that she often sounds terrible covering female songs, yet sounds phenomenal covering males like James Brown, Radiohead etc. I think strain is just a choice for her at this point, and it usually sounds exciting but I question how much longer her voice can do this.

I used to be a huge Christina fan, not so much nowadays, although I respect her talent a lot, and she surprises me once in a while, as in her amazing live Twice performances. I feel like as time goes by, her voice is scratchier, heavier, and more unidimensional. Unfortunately, I think her musicianship didn't evolute that much, the pattern of runs have become repetitive, the phrasing is rushed or almost spoke/shouted, followed by a high belt (as in The voice within, which has an immaculate studio version, musicianship and emotionally speaking, but an anticlimactic and cold live performance in my opinion), but then she has some interesting moments, where that glorious tone is allied with some great musicianship (the final run of The thrill is gone, and most Say something performances) and she's great. One thing for sure, is that she may possess one of the most beautiful instruments that ever existed in music, and I'll keep checking her once in a while for that :) Thank you for the video!

It's normal that notes wont be coming as easy as they used to. She's getting old after all. However she still has her entire range intact and doesnt show any noticable vocal decline. former Christina stan here. over the last couple years i’ve noticed her voice deepen and thicken even more than when it started back in 2010/2011. it often times sounds very rigid and pushed nowadays. the most beautiful part of her voice, to me, is her tessitura (the mid voice below the lower belting range). for Christina, this was up to C5. that light, agile warm tone in the centre of her voice has mostly disappeared, in favour of a husky, weighted, pushed mid register. her upper belts are much more mixed and thin now, too. Christina is naturally gifted with a good ear for music which allows for stellar musicality (e.g. riffs, runs, inflexions, dynamics) but it seems like she no longer puts effort into tuning her ear to develop this talent. am i calling her lazy? i am! it’s like a completely different approach to the B2B era (2005-2008) when you could tell how diligent she was with her delivery and choices, especially when doing tributes. instead of creative vocal choices, it’s like she has become a caricature of ‘Christina Aguilera,’ mimicking a over-simplified vocal style. she also does not care at all for her voice. beyond her unhealthy technique, she often yells, screams and hollers when engaging with the audience and even MY throat hurts watching it on my screen. i dunno how she still has a voice, it’s almost like she WANTS to damage it. it hurts me to say this but the main reason for my unstanning is- she has lost her desire to be an innovative vocalist. something really changed in her artistry after 2013/Summer Rain and it’s sad because even at age 41 she still has so much untapped potential as a vocalist. i wish she would go back to her ‘perfectionist’ B2B era approach to music (regardless of genre, although blues/jazz/R&B/dark pop suit her voice best imo) and adjust how to uses and cares for her instrument!

I would say that the first months of 2022 did not have good performances, but the last 3 shows, especially the two of the last week, were great, it had been years since she had reached more than two E5s in the same night, and she managed to reach three or four, I think because she's getting back to work (like the Liberation tour in 2018) her voice and confidence are getting back in shape. But I still think her best vocals from the last few years are in 2018 on the Liberation Tour.

I think you're somewhat right, but there are many amazing performances that you missed this year and in 2021 where her belting is out of this world, I think she just sings that way when she's just really into the song, you know like when she's pumped full of adrenaline, because when she is lazer focused on her belting technique her belts are the best that they've ever sounded, but it's not just about technique with her and you know that, she is all about emotion and putting that in her songs especially when she's live. The thing that I didn't like in this video is that not only did you not talk about her falsetto, head voice or her lower register, which also sounds the best it's ever been, it sounded like you were complaining the WHOLE video, I love you're videos because you are so honest, but I hate it when you start complaining about her vocals, she's not new in the music industry, she knows what she's doing, and riding on her coattails because she doesn't sound perfect all of the time is just annoying like REALLY annoying, and If Christina chooses not to take care of her voice that's her business not yours, all that matters is that she's performing again and she feels good about it, I mean at least she's not lip syncing to every single song she sings live, and not only is she serving us look after look after look she's confident doing it which is good enough for me, but apparently not for you, I think you should've made this video after she did her tour, because there is many amazing vocals from it, especially from say something.

I'm a huge fan of hers. Christina is such an inspiration. But lately, specially watching her last shows I've notice she gets very lazy singing songs the same ways, with the same runs and relying a lot on backing vocal. I get that she has to "save" her voice as much as she can but it seems that she does not try anything new anymore. I remember when I saw Back to basics the first time and saw those great versions of Come on over and What a girl wants; both with great vocals and beautifully done. I feel she's lost. I miss her originality

His approach is more passive towards Christina more than anything else. Had his approach been more aggressive, he would have said much more regarding her technical issues and actually shown all of her vocal fails to support his claims of said issues. What Christina needs is new music. She kept singing her old songs and people obviously noticed the difference with the execution and of course her vocal decline. She needs new material that truly fits her voice and appeals to the people. I've been a fan of hers for so long and honestly, I've been frustrated for so long too. Lotus and Liberation weren't IT. It wasn't bad but totally wasn't good. Bionic was okay. A few good songs and the rest just doesn't fit to her albums theme in general. Stripped remains her best album to date. She tried with Lotus but I don't think she'll ever surpass her own artistry with Stripped. But, I'm still wishing for at least one album. Just one with a few good songs that would showcase not her vocals but her ability to adapt to a new generation of fans. Cher did with Believe, I'm sure Christina will. In time.

Yeah this year was an absolute mess... My guess is that she is probably very fatigued from recent years of non stop singing and also recording her 3 part EP (also another reason she hasn't released the 3rd part yet, she's waiting till her voice is in better shape). On another note, I got to see her live for the first time last week in Marbella and I will say... She sounded SO youthful it was crazy! Her tone was breathtaking and I was NOT expecting it. She didn't sing any hard songs or go for risky vocals but the ones she did do sounded perfectly fine if not great even. I'd recommend watching the vocal overview of these Spain shows here on KZbin, it's a great video! She even hit 2 E5s which she hasn't really done in 5 years... I don't think there's anything wrong with her range. She sounds like a lower to midrange mezzo soprano. Even as a child, her tessitura was quite mature and noticeably low for her age. The thing is... the voice is less elastic as one ages. Things she could get away when she was younger (to an extent) won't fly as a matured vocalist. One has to rely on skill and not raw talent alone. Christina has to accept her limits, release that tension, and let her voice be what it wants to be. She pushes now more than ever.

She's a soprano.
@zazzilady
@zazzilady 2 жыл бұрын
@@bestvocalsbyvocalists849 Easy to see that she doesn't sing in a soprano's tessitura, hun. What Christina Aguilera, for most of her career, has been struggling to sing in has been a mezzo soprano's tessitura. "Hurt", "Reflection", I Turn To You"...these songs are structurally fit for a mezzo. Some observers assume that less tension and less pushing would place her in a different fach. It would just make it easier for her to sing in the fach she already belongs to. Behind the Music broke down that she had to "gain" an E5 in her voice on the song Reflection. I think that must have meant her comfortable range was probably up to a C5. This is consistent with her today. It seems that she has to consistently put in work for notes above a C5. Compare her voice manipulation to sopranos who manipulate their voices. Jessica Simpson (a soprano) pushes hard and low in an attempt to make her voice sound powerful... but she's brighter and higher than Christina. Not mistaking her voice type. Ariana Grande (another soprano) makes attempts to color her voice too. That's why her enunciation is compromised...but she doesn't sound as warm and lachrymose as Christina. The lower and warmer she attempts to go, the muddier her voice becomes. Christina can go as low and warm (even more so) and retain her clearer speech. And, Ariana lacks the chest presence that Christina has. That Christina's had even as a child. Mezzo-sopranos typically have a more robust chest voice. Easily not a soprano.

@@zazzilady so does it mean Mariah is also a mezzo bc she has a lower tessitura than a Lyric soprano?Literally...Xtina used heavy belting technique which is an approach of belting and definitely doesn't define ur fach,her pure voice is naturally light,but covered with distorted belting,heavy belting and unnecessary vocal tensions..Whitney Houston has a very light voice,using toungue retraction and modifying soft palete like Xtina but Whitney can control more that's why she doesn't strain..Whitney being more chesty than Xtina..doesn't let herself cover her fach with just an approach,she's a very high soprano who darkens voice with a tenor belting technique,rang like a tenor and thats how technical Whitney is,she can belt like a tenor,even better than some of them.Xtina was raising larynx..she decline at late 2000's..in 2000's you can see how light her voice is.Fach and approach are two different things..You're confusing the proper classifications of real vocal classifications.
@zazzilady
@zazzilady 2 жыл бұрын
@@bestvocalsbyvocalists849 I gave you examples of lighter voice types distorting their voices. I anticipated the "but she darkens her voice...she has tension...she wants to belt like that , etc." Please refer to the above. Jessica Simpson has many live performances where she is tense and utilizing many muscles she shouldn't. She's screaming. She pushing for lots of power. She's darkening her voice, but she hasn't be able to acquire nor sustain the same warmth and chest presence that Christina does for more than a few minutes without showings of fatigue. Christina Aguilera is not a very high soprano. She's not even a high mezzo soprano. A mezzo soprano has a typical voice range of G3 to A5. Christina's comfortable range stops at a C5.

You completely left out the Hollywood Bowl that happened in the summer of 2021. Probably because it did not fit the narrative of this video, but if you were a "true" fan and understood how difficult it is to do what she does, you would have included some of those clips. This video makes it seem like her voice is strained and lost, like some other singers. It is not.
