Over 2,300 children have been separated from their families.
Read ProPublica reporter Ginger Thompson’s article here: www.propublica.org/article/ch...
And listen to the full audio clip at ProPublica’s KZbin channel here: • Listen to children who...
In April 2018, the Trump administration and Attorney General Jeff Sessions instituted a “zero tolerance” policy on undocumented immigration. Undocumented migrants and asylum seekers detained at the border now face immediate criminal prosecution, often before their asylum claims can even be processed. Thousands of children and other migrants are now being held in detention centers operated by US Customs and Border Protection, where they await trial.
A backlash against this policy is growing, with conservatives and liberals alike decrying it as cruel and inhumane. Both the White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Sessions have explicitly cited the policy as a preemptive deterrent to undocumented migration, though the administration has since backtracked on that message.
We want to help shed light on this. Has your family been separated at the US-Mexico border? Are you a worker at a detention center, or do you aid families who have been affected? Tell us more at border@propublica.org or 347-244-2134.

Why is it our responsibility to fix everyone's problems? America didn't roll into Latin American countries rounding up their people. They are breaking into our home and we are processing their ass back to their country. They are the reason they are here. If a home invader breaks into my home and breaks his arm on the way in, I'm not going to get him a splint and some ice. I'm going to prosecute his ass to the fullest extent of the law.

Kids cry all the time. When they go to school for the first time, daycare, etc. They do cry for mommy and daddy. The difference is this time they are crying because mommy, daddy, or both willingly decided to break the law by entering a country illegally. They commited a crime. Had they gone to a legal border crossing they would not have been arrested. Go ahead, tell me I'm wrong.

I feel compassion yes but no country can afford to house cloth, and feed everyone on the planet earth, Trying so would make the USA in to a impoverished country like the one they left. I notice those who are in protest of this are not at the border with their checkbooks. Compassion won't feed them!

Leviticus 19:33-34 and 24:22 - "When the alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God." I myself am atheist but the bible can just as easily be used to defend these immigrants - illegal or otherwise - as it can to attack them. In fact, I'd say that it supports _them_ more than it supports their oppressors. The bible can't be used to justify this, no matter how hard those bigots try. Their God tells them to show love to everybody, and yet they use their religion to attempt to justify these evil acts? It's insane.

@@nateo3888 Paul in the verses you mentioned was writing to a group of Christian's who were refusing to pay taxes to the government, citing their allegiance to the higher power of God as reason. However if the authorities violate the vastly more important law of God then that is a different case. For example in the book of Daniel Daniel is commanded by the king of Babylon, (whose rule he was under at the time) to no longer pray to God but he refuses to do so, because Gods law was more important. I think you and I both agree that the act of abusing children violates Gods law.

Why don't they remain in their own country? You don't have to agree that America "is the best", but obviously you realize you did not contradict the fact that their countries are failing because of the socialistic policies. You completely ignored that statement, and referenced a debt which is irrelevant to the topic that is being discussed. Furthermore, Mexico is closer than the USA. Why don't they go to Mexico? Why do they insist on coming to the USA *illegally*? On a different note: Everyone is so upset over this, but all they do is cry wolf. Trump and his administration are following the laws of the USA, something that Obama seemed to have neglected. But they are doing MORE than that! The Republican party is trying tremendously hard to pass new legislation that will prevent this sort of thing from happening. Currently, the Democratic party is simply denying to cooperate or negotiate over said legislation. Basically, Democrats are mad at Trump and his party, but while they're busy crying and waving their hands in the air, he's trying to make things better, and get the job done.

Definitely, the manner in which the Administration is allowing "tightly controlled" video recordings from inside without interviews or freedom to show things the Admin doesn't want is incredibly reminiscent of North Korea's controlling of what visitors to their country record and how they interact with locals. Jaime Escalante I may be stupid for not knowing what is illegal with crossing a border. When I walk over the border to my neighborcountry nothing happens. I know they have their reasons to control who is crossing the borders especialy those who have no paper. But humans are humans. Also I can't imagine what is happening in North Korea even though I saw some reportages of people being imprisioned in their own country and even in labor camps. Though it is ignorant to say that we can't compare those two cases just because Kim is obviously a dictator and the USA tries to be parliamentary. What you said sounded like: "the Mexican situation is not bad because they are obviously doing something illegal, and North Korea is just savage while USA is handling this with reasonable laws, so duh it is not as bad." Yes, it is bad, and the children in agony at the Mexican border are as sad as the children at the North Korean border. I don't want to be the one telling them that it is unreasonable for them to feel heartbroken, because to the USA they did something illegal, while for them they just wanted to live.

And so now most supporters that are online defending this are going to be the same people who will praise a man for a stance they thought was wrong 5 min ago. People will justify anything a politician or a party does, just like sheep. If you don't agree on everything your favorite politician does then you're a traitor to what ever cause he represents. Also fun fact drug traffickers will only try to kill you if you do a crime, because people just asume its there fault so they actually will kill you if you do too much crime. Heck there is a guy that was killed for pretending to be one (I me dont know his name) but at the very least they should let the kids stay with either us family or back with their parents.

I can't believe that there's even a debate over this. How can you listen to these voices, hear about the awful conditions that they're putting these people through, how the lives they've built are being ruined so heartlessly by the people in power who are rich and unaffected, and STILL agree with it. I understand illegal immigration is wrong but this is NOWHERE NEAR the way to solve it! I wish my country wasn't so self centered and corrupt.

There is no debate because this is the best solution yet, and none of these "news" stories ever suggest a better one. If the people that claim to be their parents actually are, then they will later be re-united. Perhaps you'd prefer something like the Elián González raid? Many of these kids used to end up in the child sex trade a few years ago and now instead they are temporarily living under better conditions than they have probably ever experienced. You could do a video like this on the public school system and be more accurate. This video only shows the processing center btw; the actual lodging is more like a country club. Meanwhile, there are real humanitarian crises (e.g. slavery, genocide, starvation, torture) happening around the world that you are ignoring because your news sources don't see the political benefit.

Arianna Do everyone a favour and educate yourself on American laws before telling Americans to educate themselves on morality. Crossing the American borders illegally is a crime. Yes, it is a crime. Doesn’t matter whether you’re flying harsh conditions or not. It’s applicable to Europeans, Africans, Asians, everyone. *People don’t have a right to deliberately violate our laws and come illegally to the US just because they speak Spanish* . No one is exempt from the law being applicable to them, and while I’m at it, white people aren’t at fault for Central American countries being run by drug cartels and mafia gangs, making their citizens lives miserable. Wise up.

This is just simply cruel. It makes you think how heartless the Trump administration is. Do they not have kids? Yes, I can understand the immigration policy (but never accept it because of its unnecessary and unconditional strictness) but why torment the parents and children like that? 100 of those children are under the age of 4! After I caught news of this policy and the seperation of children, I lost the very little respect for Trump that I had. Is the leader of the free world supposed to lack a soul? Are these the policies of a first world country supposed to be so cruel? Is this the land of the free and the home of the brave that the revolution of 1776 aimed to create? This is shameful. This is dissapointing. This is inhumane.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” - Unless, of course, those are from other nations, because, you know no one ever immigrated to the US. Everyone there is a native 'murikan. Edit numero uno - For the blokes not getting it: Yes, this is a poem. No, this is not law. The idea behind this comment (by yours truly) is to evoke the previous stabilised American understanding that not only their nation was formed by immigrants, who suffered the same as any other immigrant, but also that those should be cared for (one way or another). So much bloody so, that, by law, ANYONE born, REGARDLESS of where their parents came from, on American soil, is an American citizen. On top of that, the country is quite inviting of political refugees (those who are escaping their nation due to political persecution). Btw, the antisemitism in the comments is just...wow. Cheers.

This is why poets don't make policy. The United States was very different back then. The country is now on the verge of automation. Most people don't have much of a shot at "the good life" without a college degree, yet many of these immigrants lack higher education or skills that cannot be replaced due to forthcoming technological advancement. It's an outdated attitude, much like the right to bear arms. Times have changed and so must our values.

Michael may I mention that a few thousand kids not having their families for a few days and us being able to our laws is better then just releasing them back. For example, a kid lost his dad because he shot another man in the head killing him do you think the dad should not be criminalized? Therefore, the child has his father again. Although, they are not committing murder or such a severity of crimes they are doing something illegal and should be prosecuted. However, I do agree that the children should be handed to child care services. UNLESS, they are older than 17. The Trump administration is making the right moves, yet they don't know to conduct them in such a manner.

Matteccles you "might want to do some research, dumbass." President Bush and President Obama both avoided separating families. President Obama kept families together with very few exceptions. Trump, on the other hand, made it a policy to rip families apart at the border, even when they are legally here seeking asylum. Even FOX admits they were misunderstood when they claimed Trump is just doing what President Obama did. www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2018/jun/19/matt-schlapp/no-donald-trumps-separation-immigrant-families-was/

Something Dems can't condone, so Repubs will blame Dems for not going for it and pin the children's trauma on them. Trump is already laying the seeds by saying over and over they could have stopped/prevented this.

This is sad. They say "gang violence" lightly. I live in south Texas, and have family in mexico. We literally cannot come visit our own families because of the gunfights in the streets everyday. To my grandma, it has become normal, to have to hide in their house, almost everyday. Several lives have been taken there. even worse, they don't even have decent infrastructure to pave roads. The president is a a rat, and so was the one before him. Its sad that instead of helping the Mexican people, we leave them to fend for themselves, to abandon them an arm's length away from help.

Cause they are the ones to suffer worst; not only are they sepparating them from their parents, but keeping them in a small closed space with little to do, (assuming they give them proper food, water, and sanitation) and probably no education (then again, i don't have all the facts, enlighten me if you can, and i am not being sarcastic)
