There truly is a remarkable quality of ideas, shapes, sounds and charisma about this car, a wonderful creation.

I am elated, An English speaking person that has not slaughtered the pronunciation of the Volkswagen, living in the US I'm constantly plagued by even advertisers pronouncing it as they see it. 👍

I drove one once. My neighbour wanted to sell it to me. I don't know whether it had been poorly maintained but I got the impression that it had little in the way of braking. It scared me stiff. It's funny how a brief experience, even if unrepresentative, can stay with you for decades.

The biggest seller ever is the Toyota Corolla with around 40 million sold I believe.

Across all generations - the Beetle is the most produced single model of car ever

@@ClassicsWorldUK over 21 million apparently. However total sales of a particular model goes to the Corolla.
@sydnorth58686 ай бұрын
@@rob5944 But the first series of Corolla is a completely different car than the 12th series and all those in between. The Beetle was essentially the same car throughout its entire production run. The Corolla is not the best selling "model", it's the best selling badge, that's all.
@rob59446 ай бұрын
@@sydnorth5868 not really. The best selling badge would be figures that represent total sales for a manufacturer. For example, if you were to calculate how many Escorts have been sold between it's introduction and cancellation then it would include all the various marks. Alternatively you could produce numbers for the MK1, 2 or whatever. Or if you wished how many two door, Mexico or however detailed you want to have them. I wasn't arguing with Beetle numbers, just saying the Corolla name has sold more than any other. Many more I believe, proving it's popularity and presumably customer satisfaction through reliability and general appeal.

An old school friend of mine's elder brother had one. I only went in it once but I remember the back seat being as cramped as hell for a slightly larger than average 15 year old! That said, a couple of years later I very nearly bought one!
@sydnorth58686 ай бұрын
I nearly bought one as my first car in 1983. The owner wanted 650 pounds for it. I think it was about a1972/3 model and in fairly decent nick. I ended up spending 575 pounds on an early Mk2 Escort 1.1L instead.

You have missed out on the Citroen Visa 600 cc engine that could do a speed of 100 kilometers per hour french engineering. The British build a very strong car to! The human imp shame they didn't build an air cooled engine! Or didn't buy the air cooled from Triumph , Triumph build a nice air cooled boxer engine that could of been lovely for the imp!
