The wahoo have turned up! (Catch and clean)

Ahoy fisho's, This week I set off in search of summer pelagics, but quickly come to realize that I may have a wahoo curse! Using a mixture of different lures I trolled up a storm but seem to be losing fish after fish! Will I manage to shake the curse or will I have to head home with my tail between my legs?

Wahoo…my favorite fish in the ocean! Most fun to catch and by far the best eating fish there is! Do you know wahoo’s can catch up-to a bait trolled at damn near 30 mph! They are fast as lightening put up a helluva fight and also taste delicious! Love those guys😎👍👍🇺🇸

Well done Sammy. A great year chalked up on the ocean. As a side note, tried the kachi kachi lure the other day while whiting fishing. 40g head with size 2 assist hooks. Absolutely slayed the fish. Was pretty even with fresh bait for a while, but took over when they went off the chew. Still kept catching them. Reflex or aggressive strike maybe. Definitely worth the go though. Chalk that up as another success to the kachi lures. Keep on fishing mate

At Christmas Island we use 2 metres of wire trace when we target Wahoo otherwise you get bitten off or their tail can whip around and break your line. Great fun having to skull drag them in before the sharks get em. Love the vid's mate keep them coming.

I fished the sunshine coast for many years out of small boats. I learned one thing after lots of lost fish , tangled lines and lines around the prop. When the fish are on I had to use some self control and only put one rod out. I would have a few outfits set up and they would be ready instantly in case of cut offs or bust us. I landed a lot of fish and my blood pressure was a lot lower. I would release as many fish where practical. Unfortunately on big fish with big teeth ,single handed you can finish up single handed if you make a mistake. I would basically stop when I had a couple of decent fish dead on board. Cheers Ron.

We all learn the hard way that you never stop the boat when hooked up to a wahoo, and for me it was the hardest habit to break. When the big girls turn and run at the boat its all over, and letting them get ahead of the boat is always very dangerous. You can get away with it when they are under 20kg, but much less forgiving on the big girls. Hard to do solo though. GL down there in 2022 and catch'em up. edited for imperial to metric.

Out there trolling like that, do you wear any sort of radio or communication device or have any sort of way to stop your boat when not at the helm? One slip, fall, and splash and you're treading water watching your boat disappear over the horizon.

Hey mate, you might notice the black bag around my waist, that’s an inflatable PFD 100. The little yellow rectangle strapped to that Belt is a PLB. It won’t stop me falling overboard, but if I do go over I’ll float and they can find me 👍👍

How far back, and how fast were you going with those lipped lures? I'n my experience, the small lips don't swim well going that fast.

Hey mate, the bumbag is a inflatable PFD 100 and the yellow thing is a PLB. Just a few safety precautions I like to take when fishing solo 👌

Sammy, one of the reasons you are loosing Wahoo (bite offs) is you dont have a stopper ( crimp) in front of your lure, the stopper stops the lure sliding up the leader when the Hoo goes for its first big run, some times a second Hoo will go for the lure being towed behind the first snipping you off.
