I used isolation technology as well as overlapping the mono and stereo recordings of this song. I gave more identity to the drums (notice the snare work!), bass and a lot of attention to the vocals. Much, if not all, of the recordings made in the Pacific Northwest during the early to mid sixties are way below standard and fairly unlistenable. Musically The Wailers were better musicians than The Kingsmen, but both are most often embarrassingly bad when it comes to knowing how and what to record. So It takes a lot of effect to make them sound halfway decent today. The recording studios sucked back then.
Since You've Been Gone ('65) was an older song of theirs and you can hear it with Rockin Roberts sing it on their record, The Fabulous Wailers At The Castle. For their new spin on the record and used vocal harmonies like the new British Invasion bands were doing.
I always liked this song because I saw them play it and I was studying the great guitarist Rich Dangel when he pulled off this introduction. I memorized how those three bar chords worked and practiced them when I got home.
The Wailers never sailed past being a big draw regional dance band. Like so many bands in the Pacific Northwest, it was near impossible to break out of there.
