The Walk - EP 64 - Kirkintilloch to Lennoxtown - North British Railway - Glasgow, Scotland

Bit of a spontaneous walk, this one.
I was with some friends in Scotland and simply searched for some local railway walks we could do as an afternoon stroll.
Thanks to some local walking websites, me and my pal Jono found ourselves walking a few miles of the stunning 'Blane Valley Branch' and 'Campsie Branch' of The North British Railway, just on the outskirts of Glasgow.
Scenery was unreal, and plenty of remains to be found as well including viaducts and preserved platforms.

Hayup Gareth, great walk this, I don't know much about railways, but I do know there's an old film, called North British, Locomotives for the Worlds Railways, also featuring Today and Everyday, the lost 1947 classic, it's a DVD from Panamint cinema, it's got brilliant footage of the whole construction process including the tool makers shop, my background of interest has been old cars an motorcycles an cycles, although anything old with wheels is Good, an you inevitably pick up odd bits of information on other subjects including trains. Great stuff Gareth. Nice to see you're into the Old World, or at least it seems you are. It is somehow sad and nostalgic to realise how beautiful our world used to be and that most people living today will never even know it. Especially when they are born into a new world and told the wrong history from the start. I too sometimes travel and see old structures around England and then hear the story of that place ie. it was built during war or as a mine etc and i just have this feeling that's BS to cover up the fact it's a much more ancient place cutting us off from our roots. Like if you look at the vast canal systems around the UK, that run under cities like Bristol etc, and then read that they were built by men with shovels in the 18 hundreds, really makes you think how deep the rabbit hole goes. But a few generations down the line who would ever know, or even question anything. Especially in a digital world with nothing physical being written down. The world forgotten. So thank you Gareth.
