Knowing a plot point you otherwise didn't know (which I didn't) about a movie isn't a spoiler according to you. It's not a big deal. I still enjoyed the review, but it was definitely a spoiler for me, as I didn't know if the guy survived.

OK, WTF has been up with the faces Chris makes in his thumbnails. Usually I like to see his facial expressions in his thumbnails for movies like Mad Max: Fury Road or Fantastic 4 for example. But in this one, it looks like he just saw a ghost or Jesus Christ or like he just walked in on his parents having sex, etc.

Know what's really interesting? I met this French actor a while back. He did some movies, none of them were big parts, mostly minor roles. But, he was telling me how directors, and producers were telling him that his French accent, wasn't French enough. Audiences wouldn't like the accent he used because it wasn't what they normally hear. Even though he was from France, and developed his accent naturally, he was forced to make another accent that sounded more French. It just tells you how we shouldn't exactly criticize people for their accents, because we don't even know what it's supposed to sound like.

I loved it. The thrill of the wire-walking sequences in IMAX 3D just can't be overstated enough. I also don't what some people are complaining about, but the first half is still a lot of fun. I think it's Gordon-Levitt's best performance honestly (he pulls off the French accent so convincingly and actually speaks smooth French for extended periods of time as well as subtly capturing their mannerisms. He infuses a lot of charisma and charm into this eccentric character, and the whole supporting cast only adds to the caper fun.

+Movie Muscle i think the reason why is that the script plays like a silly comedy at times and then it gets serious, the movie shifts different tones too many times, that it doesn't know what movie it is, but what intrigued me a lot about the first half was the directing choices zemeckis made with the camera, this wasn't just some typical or procedural narrated story, it made a lot of creative decisions and moves on how the film plays.
@fitz33
@fitz33 9 жыл бұрын
+Movie Muscle I liked it a fair bit, and I would say that it's probably the tone shifts more than the accent that could be a problem for some people. For me, the biggest issue was the way that they did the narration. I thought that was a real problem for pacing/taking me out of the movie. Still worth seeing in IMAX 3D, though! You're right to use the word "thrill"...

In my own opinion The Walk was freaking amazing. I understood his passion and loved the way it was portrayed. This movie was beautiful and every single scene had me entranced. When the movie was over for the first time I felt like a different person. i was inspired. And I still feel like every time I watch it. For me, only the most breathtaking, astonishing movies can have the affect. This is my favourite movie of all time and I don't think that will change for a very long time.

I liked this movie. Plenty of suspenseful scenes. It just tried a little too hard to be inspiring in the way that the documentary was. I had no problem with Gordon-Levitt's accent; he's a good actor and his frenchness wasn't distracting at all. But what was really distracting for me was his fake blue eyes. Who made that call?! They're painfully obvious as colored contacts. My only other main complaint is that the brown antique case that Papa Rudy gives him is never explained properly. Yet it shows up three times throughout the movie. If it's that significant, at least tell the audience what it is. (It's an antique measuring tape handed down from Papa Rudy's grandfather used for rigging the wires.)

I saw this today. I enjoyed it more than The Martian. Both are great movies. But The Walk was so much more than just an Imax 3D spectacle than I thought it was going to be. JGL's acting was top notch (too bad he will get ignored due to the bad timing of this movie with The Martian in the same week). The story has alot of heart and excitement. The final act was a huge pay-off, much more than I expected or ever knew that actually happened. I left the theater with a big smile.

“We know how (JGL) sounds and that’s not how he sounds.” Well, sure, he’s portraying a different person, thus acting. I like your reviews Chris but that comment left me scratching my head. JGL actually studied French for a while earlier in his life and he’s a very good actor overall. I was impressed with his portrayal. The movie was charming and the climax was especially satisfying. Impressive CG for sure. It also felt like a nice tribute to the twin towers without being overtly patriotic or distracting. Good movie, one I plan on buying.

I must admit I got slight vertigo on watching this film a few years back. I often have dreams where I'm at the top of a building like the world trade center and I feel vertigo then too.

Are people _really_ complaining about spoilers for a film based on a relatively well-known _TRUE STORY?_

JGL was awesome in this, I actually watched the documentary BEFORE the film, and when I was watching the film I totally forgot i was watching Joseph Gordon Levitt.

_Man on Wire_ is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen, it well and truly surpasses this movie adaptation, and is incredibly interesting. It would be nice to see you review that in retrospect Chris, if you have time!

Chris, I happened to notice that your Mad Max, Road Warrior & Thunderdome blu-rays are right next to your Magnolia blu-ray. Don't tell me you haven't picked up Fury Road yet...but I'm assuming u currently have it in a different area

I didn't even recognize Joseph Gordon-Levitt having watched Third Rock from the Sun many times. I thought he was a real French person! He did such a great job along with the cast and crew. By the way, I am Franco Ontarian.

"I'm not one of those people who spoil it, just because it was a true story..." I just watched your Zodiac review, and the first thing you say is "it's still an unsolved case, to this day." I was getting ready to watch it for the first time, and decided to watch your review to get pumped for it first. But instead, I got spoiled lol

For the people saying that Stuckmann spoiled the film in this review, I can only say that the movie's narration spoils it in the first minute of the film by how it's done...and the movie is still a sweaty-palms, suspenseful, amazing ride to watch...

I absolutely Loved the documentary 'Man on Wire' and have actually avoided seeing this film because I read a different review saying it wasn't that great. I've only watched a couple of these reviews, but so far, I feel like I can trust the input here. Looking forward to seeing this movie now.
