Johnnie Walker reportedly died at age 77 in Butner Prison, NC. His son Michael Walker was arrested for spying for his father aboard the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier in Port Haifa, Israel. Michael Walker speaking in this video was released from prison a free man. Johnnie Walker's houseboat named JAWS - the initials in his name as a Sr. - John Anthony Walker Sr. - JAWS the shark movie - JAWS the charachter with metal teeth in the 007 movies. Johnnie Walker loved his 007 movies. He drove to D.C. to the Soviet Embassy and volunteered to spy against the U.S. Navy for Money and greed. He worked aboard submarines. He was worried about an upcoming Navy Secret Clearance evaluation so he left the Navy and became a Private Detective in Tidewater VA. Johnny Walker continued to spy for the Soviet Union. As a detective he worked missing children's cases as a cover to look like a hero to the community. After arrested Johnnie Walker's JAWS houseboat was seized and neighbors watched the FBI dig up his back yard. He was an asshole stalker and should have been shot for treason against America.

I served in the Navy in early 1970's. There was talk of leakage of secrets back then of the material that wasn't sent to Vietnam. The shot down aircraft had the value the Soviets wanted, but the secret stuff afterward had no conflict excuse. Walker's son had the access to the aviation secrets on the Nimitz. We did complain that security to the Navy Exchange (PX in Army terms) was more strict than access to the building on my squadron's base where I did service the electronics in such aircraft. We had to get a security clearance to enter that building. Only the night watch at the front door checked ID and badges. A lot of us entered through the back door. No questions asked. Narrator Richard Anderson was the boss of the main characters in the Million Dollar Man and Woman series as well as many other acting gigs in his career. He was 91.

The Soviets got a lot of propaganda mileage out of what Walker did, but they knew it wasn't enough bravado to get them through the Fulda Gap, so they eventually STFU. Best decision they could have made. Going broke and crashing their economy was the second.

The book "Breaking The Ring" by John Barron is a great resource for a "quick read" about Walker's and Whitworth's betrayal. It's not all "Tom Clancy'd up" (not that there's anything wrong with that), but just a good description about money-hungry iD10Ts who got caught too late and the damage they did. That said, I tip my hat almost daily to the people at the FBI, the NSA and the naval and civilian policymakers who reacted quickly and worked tirelessly to repair the damage caused by those two .

12:42 I heard a bit on that on the PDF version of “All Hands” which the USN magazine had a story. According to the article Michael Walker stole his first document from VF-102 “Diamondbacks” in late 1983. As it turned out before his transfer to U.S.S Nimitz in early 1984 the Tomcat squadron was missing up to six classified dossiers with nobody in NAS Oceana figuring out how they just disappeared.

@@raymondyee2008 Really? How did Snowden or Winner do it then? Unfortunately it does not matter how good your security is if you have hired a traitor. This is a problem that is getting worse, since the security community continues to grow and the population is increasingly disillusioned. A great analysis of the problem is by Laura Heath, sees the issue as too much reliance on COMSEC, not that this is misplaced, but that it is an attempt to compensate for our increasing vulnerability to HUMINT. On the other hand, it seems to me, our COMSEC is also increasingly compromised by the Chinese, although they don't publicly release their findings. So we are bleeding on all fronts.

Neither Ames nor Hansen nor Howard nor Walker had access to what Tump had, nor what he had in his possession. Intelligence community doctrine considers any compromised material to be in the possession of the enemy, Russia. The mitigating factor is that Tump was likely loaded up with chicken feed on purpose.
