Of course. It should be a rule in storytelling. Anytime a character is watching another walk away and saying "goodbye" out of ear shot = death for one of them. If that was the last conversation between Rick and Carl it was fitting.

Some people feel the the Commonwealth arc was underwhelming with how the soft the “villain” is and the lack of major conflict. But I always viewed this arc as Rick finding his closure by concluded his story in realizing they get to come back, they are not the walking dead. 🧟‍♀️

Also Rick better not die and Sebastian better get the most excruciatingly gruesome death in the entire series.

You’re missing the point. It’s not about whether it’s predictable or not. It’s about WHO got killed and HOW they were killed. Most people knew and accepted rick was going to die at some point and just wanted it to be good send off. Does this seem like a good and acceptable way to end Ricks journey?

Maybe it will be a lingering death. The people of the Common Wealth attempt to save him in a futility waiting for Rick to die for a few issues. Sebastian might have been the one to shoot Rick but no one knows Sebastian shot Rick. They are going to have to figure out who shot Rick quickly. It will create quite a disturbance in the Common Wealth if Sebastian is not exposed as the killer.

A guy like Sebastian wont like being rejected. I could see him murdering a few of his harem and than moving on up to his mom. If he has not been caught, yet than he will probably flee east to the what he considers the source of his problems. Alexandria. At that point he would begin hunting Rick's friends.

@DragonBat362 That is the problem right now or is it.............? Sebastian is smarter than he looks and only a handful of people in Alexandria's network of communities know that he is a prick. I am pretty sure that when he wants to be he can be quite charming. Maybe he will just try to convince the Saviors to go back to war with Alexandria. It would not be that hard and it almost happened after Sherry's death. It is to far down the road to know for sure right now. But my guess is he will start by killing his harem. I hope Pamela lives long enough to see what her son becomes though.

5 years later and I finally accept and even really love this ending. For those saying it's bad and doesn't make sense, Kirkman gave an amazing excuse to why Rick was killed off. He basically said that Rick survived so many things but then he was so safe that he was able to be killed by the weakest character in the book by getting shot to death which never would have happened out in the normal world

Rick Grimes in the comicbooks is my favourite character ever. I know that one day he will meet his maker but.... for fucks sake. Not like this. If Rick dies next issue im gonna be literally pissed of. He was already shot like this in the begging, Carl was shot really bad too, later even in the face I hope that maybe Sebastian will go get some help because he was obviously scared when he fired that gun And the next issue will focus on a dilemma of what to do with Milton family while Rick is in coma again. This maybe sounds like some unrealistic theory but come on TWD is not know for the most realistic events

Letting him survive a gunshot that took down at least the left lung would be worse than the fact that Rick would have KNOWN that such a system never would last that long without some who are loyal. And those posing a threat to Rick right now should have motivated Rick and Mercer to put guards in front of Rick's door and watching that psychokid for a while would also have been clever.
