Back when the zombies and virus was the main enemy. Now they're just part of the back drop in a human versus human drama.
@spencerbowden29795 жыл бұрын
It became that way in the comic too. But the show dragged it on for too damn long. Took em 2 and a half seasons to beat negan for Christ sake. The comics too care of it in one arc.
@brucelee72835 жыл бұрын
the problem is that the zombies in the walking dead were too weak/slow to begin with...they cant run or do anything terrifying, they simply just walk towards you and are very easy to kill. they were a threat in the earlier seasons especially in big numbers/hordes (they can still rip you apart with their hands if they catch you?)...but once the group learned to deal with them the scare factor/suspense simply disappeared. the walking dead had a great premise but they shouldve used the zombies from left 4 dead, or at least zombies that can run/sprint/slightly climb. then the suspense would always be there indefinitely and the main focus always be the zombies...
@thomasjuniardi35595 жыл бұрын
At least the show had to give more information about the virus, Rick found out (after killing Shane) that the virus is already in their body and when they died it "resurrected". After no explanation what so ever, the show is going downhills for me.
@sonicexereaper68144 жыл бұрын
Kevin Kim The show inspired by the comics was never meant to be a zombie-only series straight out of REC, 28 Days Later, World War Z, etc. But like first replier said, the way the show handled villainous survivors like Governor, Terminus, Saviors, and Whisperers were a slow, but extremely boring build-up. And BTW, like the rulebook of zombie survival says, zombies AREN’T the only threat to your survival. Anything like villainous survivors, psychopaths, corrupted officials, natural disasters, and the deadly side of wildlife will join in to build the zombie conflict.

Theory: Morgan’s wife as a walker had her conscious still. She was able to tell which was her house and how to use a door knob. Only a small portion of the brain is activated (which is the brain stem), but what if... sometimes more than that comes back? The hippocampus is responsible for recognition memory. Coincidentally, it’s right next to the brain stem. It can explain why certain walkers hold objects, why she never left her house area even when sounds generally attract walkers. Icing on the cake... it’s why Walker Merle stopped eating the dead body when he saw Daryl and walked to him. We have seen walkers just continue eating before. Merle recognized him and immediately stopped what he was doing.

The thing is, electronic impulses which are going through the brain are forming who a human is, his experiences, memories etc... . If those impulses are stopped one time, they are gone and all those memories a human haf are gone too then. When an infected "wakes up" and, just for example, some impulses in his brain are starting again to transfer the brain, then that wouldnt be the being it was before, but a new one with a different personality etc...

They should have kept walkers being semi intelligent (turning door handles, using rocks to smash glass) and kept them dangerous. They should have kept the focus on the zombies and surviving against them as opposed to other humans in general. Nobody wants to see a gang war show. I was super interested in the mythos of the virus itself and exploring that. This show could have gone in a completely different direction if Darabont had stayed on. I know it was sorta roadmapped but the comics, but damn. I just wanted more of the horror and questions that season 1 had.

I still think that our body is only there to work, to keep us alive and your soul is what we are. But it’s so epic anyway. Love this scene
@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent2 жыл бұрын
When you think about it. All those electrical impulses are the right there. At least for the walking dead and your reality. when a person dies. The soul dies as well. Or at least the physical electrical part.
@KalashVodka175 Жыл бұрын
But the soul, if it exists (and I hope it does for all our sakes) has to reside somewhere, right? It has to interact with something physical, since the soul is otherwise wholly immaterial (at least in most interpretations). But what it the soul could interact with neurons? What if the brainstem, neurons, synapses, all of this were just a method of interaction between soul and body? Then wouldn't these electical impulses be a manifestation of the soul having an impact on the body? Who knows

I don't understand how the zombies move even though the primary motor cortex isnt resurrected
@nobodyspecial82829 жыл бұрын
It does, the idea is that it revives the brain but leaves it with the lowest cognitive functions, don't know if I spelled that correctly, and it leaves them with standard needs eat move. This shows why they aren't fast or able to complete tasks, they don't have the coordination needed, that's why I like this show, its what an actual zombie is

If the brain stem is what is reactivated and the rest of the brain remains dead, then how does a gunshot to the top half of the head do anything to stop or kill a walker? The brain stem is at the bottom/base of your brain, pretty much right above your neck area. A gunshot or blow to the top of the head would not damage it.

That would be true in a living human being, but in a so called zombie they dont bleed, they don't have a heartbeat, they dont have nerve signals in the brain anymore. The whole concept is flawed.

Slight pet-peeve of mine. I'm finding it increasingly annoying when TV shows have scientific characters use poetic language to describe their work. Because it feels like it's talking down to the viewer. Sure there's plenty to be in awe about. But when asked "what are those lights?", the most likely response would be along the lines of "it's X machine registering X electrical activity in the X area of the brain". Instead we get things like "it's a persons life...experiences, memories, it's everything". It's the same writing concept that had a biologist in Interstellar talk about love "transcending time and space". It feels like being spoon-fed garbage. Like a benign form of anti-intellectualism. A writer going "well we can't use complex language, because we might lose the viewer". As if the viewer hearing a word they don't recognise is a bad thing. And it won't encourage them to google it later and perhaps learn something interesting about neuroscience.

It's very reasonable for a doctor working at the CDC to "dumb down" complicated neuroscience for a group of regular people that most likely gave him the impression of being regular people who wouldn't follow any explanation consisting of jargon. Also your content is profoundly lacking in humor, but I'll dumb it down for you and tell you that your content sucks and is slop consumed by 12 year olds.

I wonder, if scientists genetically altered the zombie virus they might be able to turn it into something that restarts the entire brain, basically bringing people back to life. It might take time for it to fully revive the brain but if it's able to restart the brain stem which controls heartbeat and breathing, it'll keep the brain alive long enough for the virus to restart more and more portions of the brain
