Apparently I've seen other comments that said that the reason he didn't keep it was either 1.he didn't keep it cause it was rigged with a tracking system so if rick managed to actually escape out of all the other attempts he tried they would be able to easily find him and that was how jadis was able to find him and michonne or 2. There giving him his comic accurate hook hand according to actual pictures of Andrew Lincoln with said hook hand or 3. It was to symbolize rick's freedom and him moving on from the crm no longer a slave to them but as a free man to finally be with his family

For anyone who says Rick's hand to hand fighting got better that is true but it was never really bad he only ever really lost like 2-3 fights so

@@scientistmilorad9735eh, he’s a good fighter but in 1v1s he loses for the most part, him fighting with weapons, now those fights he wins. But Rick in the new spinoff series he redeemed himself (except him going against Okafor)

I think before CRM training, Rick was more of a defensive fighter with his Sheriff training. He knew how to disarm people, tackle them, but lacked training in Offensive moves.
