Hello everyone, and welcome to another instalment of The Walking Dead - In Defence Of, a show in which I look at characters from the TWD who aren't the most popular with the fanbase, and try to create an argument as to why they deserve a second chance. This time around I'll be looking at the freaky priest Father Gabriel. I hope you enjoy the video. :)

Gabriel is arguably one of the most well-developed characters on the show. I'd say that he's even come further than Carol in a lot of ways.

He's actually become one of my favourites due to how screwed on his head is lately. He's calm, smart, strategic and does what needs to be done

Gabriel is probably my favorite character, tbh, because he has gone through some of the best development from how he initially was. When he realized how badly he screwed up he tried his best to improve himself and reached the point where he became competent and badass, while still having compassion and faith. I hope he survives the show, though things are starting to look grim.

Honestly in my opinion Gabriel has been awesome since No Way Out and has only continually gotten better. I really don’t understand why anyone would hate him at this point.

He's actually pretty interesting I never really hated him. When he asked for negan confession I got chills because the look one his face he was ready for anything

I loved Gabriel after he took care of Judith. That was awesome. Then he went into the walker herd like a crazy badass! He has doe a lot to redeem himself.

Quite compelling argument there. You got me to realize that it is a pretty good character arc. I too would be creeped out by Gabriel...he's definitely a good actor.

I liked Gabriel during season 6, Now he's pretty much in my top 5 fave characters, which makes me worried for the whole Whisperers story coming up :(

Yeah, he's one of he well-designed ones if you ask me. I wasn't aware that he was still so hated. His journey to the man he is has been bumpy, but it's supposed to be. That makes for a good story.

I know alot of TWD fans who do not like him simply because he believes in God and is a priest. They find it either unbelievable that someone who could hold faith in an apocalypse or they just don' like his set of beliefs period lol.

Although this is an old video and much has transpired since, the most powerful moment for Gabriel was in the final season when he opens the gate for the citizens of the Commonwealth who are outside of the Residences with an approaching hoard of walkers. He came full circle and didn't commit the same sin twice.

I'm ok with Gabriel locking people out of the church. Anyone who wanted to survive would do that. The fact that he goes against the people who saved him means he's weak and needs to get walkered.

Once again I agree with you. Another thing I thought was a bit unfair on Gabriel was that the two other cowards Eugene and Nicholas got forgiven pretty much immediately whereas Gabriel had to work extra for his second chance.

Mariano Aymerich well in the season 6 premiere when they planned to lead the quarry walkers away from Alexandria Rick let Nicholas help but when Gabriel offered Rick immediately turned him down. I don’t remember Rick ever expressing anger towards Eugene for lying and he blew up the saviors weapons in season 8 which was much later than the business with Gabriel and Nicholas.

Gabriel has turned out to be pretty cool, especially when he kills that savior from the compound. I thought he was cool. Eugene has always been pretty funny to me and he redeemed himself when he saved Tara. In my personal opinion he should've died sometime after that. Probably taking Abraham's death from the comics. Besides that alot of the unlikable main characters has stayed unlikable for me, even though the show tries to make them likable. Jadis is a perfect example of this. Her introduction and first few scenes destroyed her character for me. Even though her character is supposed to be like a "this person was like this and now she's like that" situation, for me it was more like "lets plan this for this character... oh no, I made a horribly-written character, let's rewrite her to a non-character."

Mikhailo _23 well tara is a different case. The reason some people hate gabriel or eugene is because of things they did. The reason people hate tara is because she's a completely useless, unfunny character, who never actually did anything THAT wrong, she's just pointless and embarrassing

Although I feel like whenever the writers try to further her character people still complain or they just don't care, which upsets me because to me Tara is another break from all the action characters that get boring overtime. I think the writers should find a good storyline for her. I liked the ocean side story arc they gave her but it just wasn't enough ya know?
