Paula: "Are you going to kill me?" Carol: "I hope not." This could be a turning point for Carol's character. She might have done what she had to do on "the kill floor" but we might not see her kill again, anytime soon... We shall see. We adored this episode aswell, so intense and filled with so many messages, and as much as Carol and Paula were similar, there was still major differences. I think for Carol it's the kids. I'm sure she blames herself for that boy's death even though she wasn't there because I'm sure someone described to her how he died. The two girls and then her own child. And now she finds herself in a situation where one of her family members is pregnant & another child is imperiled I do think Morgan helped to get her to finally admit to HERSELF that she was losing her 'humanity'.

Thank you for articulating the difference between Rick's group and Negan's group. I've seen many flawed arguments that equate the two groups, which I call BS. The huge difference is that Rick's group is willing to live alongside other groups, not extort and enslave them. And they sure as hell wouldn't bash an innocent boy's head in. That is leadership from the top. Even if someone in Rick's group were to try, others would stand them down or banish them. To live this long in this world, everyone has done something unsavory. But there are some lines that, when crossed, distinguish us from animals, ensuring we lose our humanity.

I feel like Carol has a existential crisis in realizing she doesn't want to kill anymore but knows she has to to protect the people she loves. The panic attack and angst i believe is real, she wasn't afraid of them the enemy, but of herself. She's starting to contemplate the past killings too, writing up her victims. She is such an interesting character.

I always saw Carol's panic attack as being 100% authentic but she's so crafty/clever that even in that moment she was using a real anxiety episode to their advantage. Illustrating that even as Carol breaks down she would never allow herself to be compromised to the point of not helping her friends, which is sort of her whole dilemma; she is being destroyed by her actions but would never let that destruction negatively impact the people she loves.

Awesome episode and awesome reaction. It's so interesting how Carol and Maggie each had a "mirror" of themselves in the two Savior women, showing them what they could have been or might become under different circumstances. Melissa McBride continues to kill it, and the actress who played Paula was also great. I think what you said about why the writers are now giving Carol this arc is absolutely spot on. Whenever trouble appears, there's always that looming sense that Carol is virtually invincible and will take care of business, as she's done time after time. Now, they're introducing some doubt about that. Speaking of Carol, though, did you notice when they had hoods over their heads, the camera showed us Carol scuffling her feet as she walked? She was leaving a trail for Daryl and the others to follow. She must have also found a way to leave signs even after they got in the vehicle, because Daryl told her at the end that he'd "got" the trail she'd left. That's how they found them at the slaughterhouse.

I LOVED your discussion afterwards, seriously. I love how you are seeing the two different sides here. Of course it's easy to just hate these women for capturing Carol and Maggie but it's simply not that easy. They don't seem to be any more or less good or bad than our group honestly. They're just doing what they have to do in that exact moment. Then your discussion about Negan and If he's maybe ''their Rick'' etc - very likely that could be the case. Just because it was Rick who we followed since the beginning that doesn't mean there aren't any other people like him out there

From what we've seen so far, there is a distinction between our group and the Saviours. The Saviours introduce themselves by killing someone and from then they talk half of everything you have, and not just once. They keep taking half. Rick's group are wary of newcomers, and they're not above pre-emptive strikes to defend themselves, but their default is not kill someone and then keep stealing what they have. There are other differences, too. If Negan is a person, he's a leader who sends his minions in to do his dirty work. Rick leads from the front and doesn't ask his people to do things he won't do himself. There's also something in the name - the "Saviours" is either a sick joke, or else it's a terrifying delusion. If Negan and his pals really think brutally murdering someone (Jesus said they beat a sixteen year-old to death in front of everyone) and taking half their people's stuff forever is "saving" them then they're Governor-level batshit...

Glad you both enjoyed this episode. Carol should have got an "Emmy Award" for her acting in this episode alone, we saw so many emotions and clever faking mixed with real emotions with her trying to protect Maggie and the baby and probably her protective "mother" instinct kicking in again as Toby called her, looking out for the group, those she loves. She started of with the meek little voice act over the walkie-talkie talking to Rick. Then cleverly lets their captors know "It doesn't matter what happens to me - just don't hurt Maggie. Don't hurt the baby", so sets that up nicely. Then by finding the crucifix with rosemary beads on the floor (probably left by a former prisoner/captive) of this former slaughterhouse (the saviours used to hide/stash weapons and stuff and rigged it with walkers to protect it), Carol palmed it in her hands knowing they'd see that symbol as a sign of weakness which Molly did mocking her "your one of them", but Carol always planned to use it later after we see her filing it sharp on the floor to cut through the duct tape around her wrists. She went on to perform an Oscar, a good piece of acting and so called "panic attack" and "hyperventilating" that actually had Maggie frowning and looking confused and strangely at Carol. If it was me I'd be saying loudly and thinking 🤔 "YOU GOOD", but poor Maggie you could see was wondering is this for real, and is she OK, earning Carol the nickname by Molly "nervous little bird", to the point Maggie screamed at them to take the gag out of her mouth "she's "hyperventilating" and it worked and was Carol's plan all along. It was great, Carol thanking them Paula calling her "pathetic" and "I see exactly who you are Carol, I know...your pathetic". Carol then tries to relate to them saying it helped her through her daughter Sophia's death and so good were the tears at this point it confused most people, we were like is this real or fake? Then she tried intel' about who NEGAN was and Molly saying "we are all Negan" and she was saying she didn't understand etc., Paula mocks her saying she couldn't stick to her own principles and Carol basically tells her you don't want me..., then asks Carol if she's going to kill her, I loved the response, Carol replies "I hope not" which was chilling. Then her and Maggie work together, half rigged up the walker to attack whoever walks through that door. We gasped when Michelle (Saviour) slashes at Maggie's stomach with a knife and Carol ends it by shooting her in the head. Probably sees a bit of herself in Paula and may have sympathised with her when she heard her story about her husband and 4 daughters, but she wouldn't accept Carol's offer to just "walk away" and is forced to defend herself against Paula and kill again. Loved Carol imitating Paula's voice telling the other two over the walkie-talkie to "meet us on the kill floor" and sets those two alight finally letting her guard down when our group burst through the door and poor Maggie hugging Glenn telling him she couldn't do it anymore and Carol telling Daryl she wasn't OK. I think they both found this situation quite traumatising. Enjoyed your reaction and glad you looked at it from both perspectives because by this point myself and co' thought we probably have more blood on our hands than the other way around, but I agree, Rick does it out of protection for his children and the rest of the group he said are his family and doesn't just kill for the fun of it.

One of the things that I like best about this TV series is that characters are allowed to change significantly over time. You can see this in so many characters. Also they make mistakes, and they are allowed to be more complex flawed people. Which makes them more interesting. And you get to see them move forward and cope with the results of their decisions, good or bad. Anyone still alive at this point in the series has had to do some horrible things in order to survive. The difference is what their motives and intentions are in their actions. As you said, Rick isn't out to terrorize other people, and manipulate and use people for his own purposes and /or benefit or gain. And the people who join Rick's group are free to leave if they wish to do so. On to the next episode!👍

I think it's about here where I felt a paradigm shift in the show ...well ever since our group corralled and herded that massive walker herd from the quarry and then the battle for the Alexandria - that the focus shifted from survival against the zombies, to the zombies being a background threat. Our group can easily deal with the zombies. They are always dangerous, but not really a big problem because our group are now all battle-hardened badasses. Now things seem to be more about relationships with each other and the real threat, is other groups of battle-hardened badasses and the consequences of having to deal with them.

There was an aftershow that aired weekly after the show, "Talking Dead" Melissa McBride appeared on it for this episode and she pointed out that Carol cannot maintain the facade in front of Daryl. "They are the same"? "You only support Rick's group because that's who we followed"? Are you sure about that? I know a lot of people think that. But I disagree. If our group, ran into people, like dayrl, Sasha, Abraham, on the road, Rick would not rob them. Threaten to kill them. There is a huge difference. Look at the differences between them. I would not watch a show, or love the characters, if the characters were bullies and murderers. Yes they all kill. But killing in defense is not murder. Killing out of selfishness, is murder. The red head does not care if she kills. Carol does. We see it. That is not an murderer. No, I don't follow our group simply because we have followed them. I do not agree with "Negans" philosophy. I do agree with Rick's and survivors philosophy. Carol. Such an amazing character! She has been my favorite since the start. From back when she lost her daughter and abusive husband And it's only gotten stronger. She only KILLS because she will not lose any more loved ones But no other reason. And even then, unlike the red head, even then, it bothers her. She knows how capable she is. And how deep she loves. And it scares her.

The reason I don't care about any awards shows is because they don't show any love towards " the walking dead" it was a big outcry that Melissa Mcbride did not win an emmy!! Its complete bullshit

Knowing that you already passed 7x1, but I won't spill any beans, it's refreshing that you GET both sides of the story. Two different groups with two different leaders trying to survive in this $hitty world. Remember that Rick's group already killed the bunch of bikers, the sleeping bunch in the outpost and now this tiny group. Dare I say like 30ish people??? Take this into account for future episodes. Nobody feels a bad guy in his own story... Great reaction, you both never disappoint.

How Melissa (Carol) and Andrew (Rick) haven't won any award is truly astounding. Their acting is phenomenal. That aside this episode I never really liked for some reason. Can't put my finger on it but on reruns I usually skip it. BUT, watching it with you guys I gained a bigger appreciation for it. The beauty of reaction videos. I cannot wait to comment on a certain matter. Shit is hitting the fan so much the poo shower is coming. Cheers guys ♡

I honestly was upset they killed off Paula. I get it, but she was badass. It would’ve been cool to get more screentime of her. 3 episodes from the finale?! Man I bet you two were freaking out during 6x16 & 7x1. Excited for the reactions!

What happened to "We don't kill the living"?
@emmaaaa1004
@emmaaaa1004 Жыл бұрын
I’ve been asking myself that same question for such a long time. Many of Rick’s killings are justified sure but quite a few aren’t and could have been handled better by Rick. For example the guy he killed at hilltop, sure was an asshole but he was mainly just scared and did not deserve to die. Could just be me but I don’t consider someone whose first instinct is to kill and makes first impressions constantly drenched in blood a badass. But I know my opinion is in the minority and I respect everyone who loves Rick, I liked his character too once upon a time.
