Great episode. I was hoping they bring back the walkers climbing and picking up objects. Like season 1, Rick’s group attack in mall. Walker picked up rock to break window. Also season 2, Andrea in Dale’s van bathroom. Walker try to open door. Finally bring back the beginning seasons.

Fun Fact: This isn’t the first time we saw walker’s act this intelligent before as in Season 1 & a lil’ bit of Season 2: we saw walkers legit sprint at a joggers pace, grab a brick & smash the window in the mall where Rick’s crew was at the time, crawl up a fence, etc. This was part of the original showrunner’s vision; Frank Darabont, of the walkers but unfortunately… that idea was short-lived… until now! Honestly, I love that they’re making the walkers more sentient as it adds a whole new layer of danger to them. So-much-so that it could possibly make them a major threat in TWD universe ever. Plus, one of the upcoming TWD spin-offs takes place in France & World Beyond’s end-credits scene took place in France so it’s possible we might encounter more of these “variants” over in Europe soon.

Will say it’s odd seeing them again after so many years of very manageable and predictable walkers. I think it’s a good mix up for possible threats in all the upcoming spoilers. I mean shows….

They establish variant walkers in TWD: World Beyond & tease it in Fear a bit too but I know you guys have stopped with Fear & didn’t watch World Beyond but they did have them in S1 too. I think that the major lawsuit with Darabont is the main reason they made all these creative changes to distance themselves from his creative perspective on the show (EX. Morgan’s wife turning the door knob after she went to their house again, there is a walker that used a rock to smash the window of that department store Rick ends up in with Andrea, Jacqui, T-Dog, Merle, Morales & Glenn too & then they climb the ladder in the alley Glenn brings Rick too as well as the fence to the parking lot Glenn gets that car from. We sorta see them as runners or joggers in S2 as well with Shane & Otis.)

When I saw the renaissance fair in the trailer I thought mini golf too. Like a medieval themed family fun park, lol. When that walker grabbed that rock I almost shit myself! How scary was that!? Like how Aaron, the recruiter and one who went out far looking for ppl, was saying he heard stories, makes sense since he was out scouting all the time. I’m sure Rick told him of the walkers in Atl, Morgan’s wife and the ones at the dept store and the climbing fence ones in season 1

The walker crouched down to get Rick/Sophia under the vehicles. The walker tried to break into mall holding a rock against window. The horde climbed over the fence to chase Rick and Glenn. Walkers ran fast to Sophia. The early seasons nightmare is back.

I don’t think it’s necessarily strictly about the relationship with Max, I think it’s also what the commonwealth is and can be if they stay & work to make it better. It’s the best & most well maintained place they’ve ever found & it would just be a death wish to leave it unless they absolutely have to. In the wise words of Dale, “this new world is ugly, it’s harsh, it’s survival of the fittest…” and I believe that many who wouldn’t have a shot outside those walls can grow, thrive & begin to rebuild the world from inside the walls there and that’s a good step towards saving humanity long term and so I like to think this isn’t 100% just about being with Max 🤞🏻

I remember season 1 the walkers use to climb fences and mess with the doorknobs and more and tbh I was surprised when the walkers lost those skills but when the whispers showed up I thought those were the return of the skills but wasn't now this could begin a wider situation

The " re- intro" of evolved or rather " less disintegrated" walkers is a masterstroke if they dont one-and-done it, it could bring real intrigue back to the drama, as in like, all of a sudden theres huge numbers of these that no one expected, perhaps even showing signs of communication and organization within herds !!! 😮😮😮😮🥶🥶☠️

It wasn’t the whole horde that had the variant, it was just the one. It was the same Walker that let the rest in, climbed the building and tried to kill Eugene. I want to know how common they are, or if they are rare.

I don't know if you remember this or not but when The walking Dead first started the very first episode when Rick was walking trying to find other people and he met the color guy and his son the man's wife was a zombie and she walked up to the the stairs the steps on to the porch and kept turning the door knob I just remembered that a few minutes. If anyone else remember that or not I can't remember the name of the family at all but his son died in the storyline and he was with Rick and then he left on the spin-off show or fear The walking Dead you may want to look into that thank you.

It was that one walker that climbed up and open the gate for the others. All of the walkers didn't seem evolved as that one walker, because he was the only one climbing, picking up that rock, and fight back against Lydia 🤔

Also connects back to season 1 walkers and even very few sprinkles of walkers doing weird shit throughout the shows seasons. There was a walker in season 3 for example that peeled open a metal tin to peak inside woodbury at night.

Yeah these varient walkers existed already way back in season 1 . When rick & morgan were within morgan’s house with them & his son dwayne you saw rick looking outside through the door hole seing morgans dead wife trying to open the door . In Atlanta with rick and the group at that building they were in with merle being cuffed on the rooftop from down below walkers were trying to get inside the place with one walker you see holding a rock just bashing it up against the glass doors . And another episode with glenn and rick being covered in walker guts that you saw a few walkers had jumped the fence when they ended up having to run from the walkers in the rain. I was so shocked that Lacey this episode didn’t think earlier at first that one zombie was a whisperer after that whisperer storyline ended a season ago after you saw that zombie turn its head to the side when it was in the horde with the rest because you would think at first it’s a whisperer rather then you thinking just someone’s watching them this time . The show did that stuff before in the past during the whisperer storyline with always having that camera angle with a whisperer having a close up in the zombie horde with turning there head to this side at us , lol .

Back to season 1 episode 1 with the Walkers. Morgan's wife had memories and was able to turn doorknobs. The concept has been discarded and never mentioned again, until now. Now we're back to the comics. That's where the walkers have developed.

I am thinking that only certain walkers possess this ability to climb or turn door knobs. Not sure why certain ones would and not others though. Scary to think most walkers are easy to kill but you might get a few in a horde that are these variant types and are harder to kill. Crazy shit

In the first season we had those kind of walkers. Morgan's wife turned the door knob. At the department store a walker tried to break the glass door with a rock and walkers climbed on top of the tank after Rick and followed Rick and Glen up the ladder toward the roof. These are nothing new. If you watched Tales of the Dead in the episode with Anthony Edwards he was tracking a walker who would kill and let the other walkers eat and not eat himself. With the Whispers we know that the walkers will follow leaders so I think not all walkers are variant but some are and they lead the herds.

These aren’t variants, remember season 1 walkers were climbing ladders and fences, turning doorknobs and picking up toys and rocks. They technically aren’t breaking the rules. The writers are just bringing back something that faded in the show over time.

Well to be honest since the beginning of the show we have seen variants like this, in season 1, morgan's dead wife would routinely go to their house and try to open the door, another climbed a fence chasing rick and glen, and another tried to break with a rock the glass door of the store rick and the group was.

Variants are rare, only that one zombie in that herd was a variant and opened the doors to get inside, tried to open that other door, grab lydias staff, and climbed the thing... and grabbed the rock. I like the idea of variants and it all ties back into the earlier seasons and strange shit walkers did in other seasons.

They are linking all the shows! World Beyond wasn't great, BUT, there are a lot of things revealed in it that will effect this whole universe. Especially in season two. (FTWD too, although I'm 1 or 2 seasons behind on that, I've seen some stuff) I know that in season 1 there were walkers that did climb, turn doorknobs, and use rudimentary weapons. I chalked that up to being a new walker, and as the walkers rotted, those abilities escaped them. However, it's going to be much more than that. I'm thinking that we are going to have walkers that resemble the "28 Days later" kind of "zombies". I think that is where it's going. I hate that this is ending, but all of this is definitely going to be playing into the Rick and Michonne episodes, and the Carol and Daryl spinoff.

I like it less than Seasons 9 & 10, but more than Seasons 7 & 8. It has some really good moments, but the season got derailed because they were still shooting amid Covid protocols. Plus, the producers didn't know that Season 11 would be their last until they were already 8 episodes in. So some storylines get squashed really quickly and things don't feel as focused. Your mileage of enjoyment may vary.

- The best leadership for Commonwealth would be if our group took over. - Dude, if Rosita, Princess and Max don't get through to Mercer then I'm done with him. He knows his people haven't been doing great for some time now. His sister's life has now been threatened by Pamela and he's still hesitant to do anything about it?? How can he still not want to help? - Nothing better happen to Rosita. She's been underused so much. She's one of the best fighters and it bothers me that the writers haven't been using her the right way when she was a foot soldier. That was a huge advantage being in that position. - How are walkers now opening doors and climbing walls? Unless the writers want to give a reason for the walkers that Rick came across when he first went into the city after waking up from a coma. Remember that one that stopped and looked at him all fully aware? If I recall, it had red eyes. And also, there was a walker that picked up a rock to break open the glass doors in the store where Rick and Andrea were inside. - I still don't know why Pamela and Hornsby are alive. I'm so bored of these characters. The walkers are far more interesting and threatening.

One of my biggest problems with this last season are I’m always wondering how the show leads in to the spin-offs. It’s a shame we’ve known about those so long,as one of the big things that made this show stand out was knowing no one was safe.

It's a good twist to get this variant into the mix but I hope they keep some logic to it as well. I know we saw those ones in S1 but that was before they ironed out the rules (or the creative differences). If they kept those kind of walkers all the time it would have been a different show. We needed the slow walkers to allow the people dramas to unfold. It's an awesome way to use those original ideas but I don't think that was the plan all along so I hope they merge them into the narrative with some reasonable explanation. I mean after seeing those few at the start which is about (13 years?) ago then never seeing another one it would be a little hard to take if suddenly they are everywhere, unless there was a good explanation, like a super hoard of them that have stuck together and been wandering inland somewhere but food is running out so they are moving toward the coasts. Could the kidnappers be part of that underground rebellion that we haven't heard about for a while? With the Daryl spin off being in France maybe that's where the CRM took Rick and that's why he wasn't able to mount an escape and try to get back to his family?

SPOILERS for spin-off series: It was shown in TWD World Beyond that there are variants of Walkers in other countries. In France, the walkers are far more aggressive. They can run (like, limp-running) and they are somewhat physically stronger.

Is it just me or do these eps feel like they are all about the wrong things. All this stuff w Sebastian and Pamela - doesn’t feel like the walking dead. And it’s characters. Just feels like another so/so set up - the common wealth just never has been as great as they want it to be - and instead of getting character moments w our favorites we are dealing mostly w an over written Eugene and just all the wrong things. Not the way I was hoping these last batch of eps would be. There should be amazing moments w our people and Negan and Maggie but this is all just feeling like dreary mid season not good TWD

My estimation: Walker Sebastian is infected with new variant, works his way out of restraints and goes on a 'chomp spree' multiplying his number WITHIN the Commonwealth. Notice he took longer to change. This could be significant to the new walker maturation period. The Commonwealth is toast.
