When we perceive a threat, real or imagined, we often withdraw behind imaginary walls. We think these barriers within and around us actually keep us safe.
When we hide behind these imaginary walls, we gain a false sense of protection only to discover that we have been locking in the stress and tension which does not keep us safe.
As you start to shed these apparent barriers, you deal with life as it is and feel more alive, open, and free. And life is met more confidently and naturally as it is.

So perfect! Thank you, Hale. This meditation really hit the spot today, as always. I had something happen in my life this week that put me in "shut down mode." This hasn't happened in quite awhile and really threw me. More to release on :). Letting go of defending and protecting, and being open to the possibility that I am stronger when open, flowing and not contracting. Welcome inner strength and power and certainty. Welcome that which already is and needs no protection. Love to Willow!

Hi Hale, I'm wondering why is it that we hold onto our painful emotions? As I started following your method I've realized how I've always hold onto every painful emotion, but don't even understand why, if it hurts then why do most people hold onto them??

It's a habit we've developed over time from learning. We are expected hold onto things we learn from life experiences and is reinforced in school.

No. It’s letting go of the outcome. The only thing anyone can influence and control is their internal experience. Hale does a very helpful video on releasing fear. It’s the resistance to fear that makes it worse, mainly because it keeps your attention internally focused rather than responding intuitively and appropriately to a particular situation. “The Gift of Fear” by ex FBI agent Gavin DeBecker goes in-depth into this phenomenon. But Hale gives you an effective way to actually DO what Gavin talks about.
