Michael is such a delight. I get a Richard Thomas vibe from him, which is probably one of the greatest compliments one can receive. So intelligent, humorous, and likeable. He truly would have made a perfect Walton family member.

Dear Judy, I am a regular watcher of Behind the Scenes of the Waltons. I have been meaning to write in about 2 things. Back before Christmas you did several episodes with Jon Walmsley, and he talked about the CD he made with Earl Hamner about hymns. You discussed it again a few weeks ago when you had the group discussion about Earl Hamner. I ordered the CD for my brother-in-law who is a Baptist music minister and a big fan of the Waltons. A few weeks ago, my husband, my son and I went to visit my sister. While we were playing games after dinner, my brother-in-law put in the CD, and we listened while we played and sang along with the hymns in 4-part harmony. We all, even my son who wasn't familiar with Earl Hamner, enjoyed it so much. I only wished my mom and dad were still with us to hear Earl's voice again and the stories he told. My dad would have loved the story he told about the Carter Family. My dad dearly loved the Carters and Mother Maybelle. I had tears in my eyes as we all sang together the old hymns. Please tell Jon how much joy the CD brought to us. The second thing I wanted to mention was from your discussion of the episode, The Hiding Place. You said that Walker Edmiston did the radio voices. I don't know if you had the privilege to know Mr. Edmiston, but the man was a genius with voices. He was a fine Christian man who did voices on Focus on the Family's Adventures in Odyssey radio show. My children grew up hearing his voices. I can always spot his voice. They say that he was so good that he could be playing multiple parts within the same scene and just go back and forth between the characters with no break. He played 2 very different characters, one a good guy and one a bad guy. At times the two characters would argue, and he switched between the two characters without pause. Well, thanks for your time. I hope you found it remotely interesting even if quite long. BTW, My mama's birthday was Jan. 29th too.
@westvalley4118 ай бұрын
Awesome reference to Odyssey. I loved the writing and character. I get it.
@judynorton25988 ай бұрын
I will pass along your lovely comments about Jon’s CD. I will see him in Waco TX in a few weeks. We did not get to meet Mr. Edmiston. He would have done is Voice Over work in the sound booth rather than on the set.

Michael was nominated for a supporting actor Oscar in 1979 for The Great Santini. He starred opposite Robert Duvall and Blythe Danner. Michael, I read the book until the pages fell out and always remember the scene when Mr.Duvall was hitting the basketball to the back of your head as you were walking away from him. Also, one of my favorite episodes of Maude had you as the younger boyfriend of Adrienne Barbeau on election night arguing political views and age differences between men and women. Your characters father was played by William Schallaret, who played Stanley Perkins in the last two seasons of the Waltons. I enjoyed your work on Roseanne very much as well as your comedy Life's Work. Judy I cannot thank you enough for all the work that you do on your videos. This was such a wonderful opportunity to see another young actor who made such an indelible impression on the audience.

Off-topic and random, but I was watching a 1971 film called The Pursuit of Happiness with Michael Sarrazin and Barbara Hershey. Ralph Waite played a supporting character. Also, while watching Madame Bovary from 1949 - Ellen Corby in one of a slew of supporting roles she played during the golden age of Hollywood. Edit. I guess not so off topic, as Ellen just became the topic of conversation with Michael O'Keefe. 👍🏻

Happy Birthday, Judy! I hope Michael knows what a hottie he was to all the teens back in the mid 70s. He was such a delightful character and totally believable! He was just like my brother's friends and I was so jealous of Erin on the show! It was so delightful when he made a return appearance and I was so stunned and disappointed in a future show when Ralph said he was happy Erin didn't marry him, calling him a knucklehead or something of the sort. I thought to myself, why would he say that about him, then it dawned on me that this was a guy who tried to elope with his daughter! LOL! Then to see him again on Rosanne was a true gift from heaven. He's been a 10 out of 10 in everything he's worked on and it's truly a pleasure to see him on your channel. Yes, I still watch The Waltons every single day on MeTV. It is truly an American treasure.

I wish they had made you as Chad a permanent cast member. I also loved you as Worthy Petinger in Harvest Home with Bette Davis and Rosanna Arquette. Great interview!

The food routine around the dinner table - as explained to Michael by the Walton kids - "Don't eat too much" - was hilarious. Great interview.
