Fantastic film. Feels like a good Chinese film all the way concerning narrative, dialogue and moral values, kind of like watching a Hong Kong kung-fu or wuxia film... but set in a high tech future, and instead of kung-fu fights there are massive action sequences and narrow-escapes and sacrifices for the greater good of humanity. If you enjoy the Chinese story-telling style you will love this movie. And if you love well-done visual effects, massive sets and perfectly executed action sequences you will too. Think of it as Independence Day, Star Trek, Interstellar, 2012, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon all rolled into one. No, no sword-fights, but there is a guy shooting at Jupiter with a machine gun.

Something about humanity coming together to save the Earth despite their origin is so satisfying. It gave me this sense of euphoria I love the message! Never give up! Hope will always be the better answer than despair and coming together as one to achieve something despite the differences is the most efficient way for humanity to survive. If only we could help one another instead of trying to pull each other down, especially when you bring politics. Prolly not scientifically accurate. As absurd as this movie was at times, I really did love it. It felt like in concept this was about saving everyone, rather than have a Noah's ark like story, where only the select few survive. Granted there was a lottery system, but it was for the whole of society and not just a select few. The science behind the movie was a mess, as someone who's studied into the sciences a fair bit, it was to me, easily overlooked due to the heart behind the story. Although at times madness truly crept in and made many of the characters make some truly selfish decisions, the overall message was clear, that it was about saving as many people as possible, and the world coming together to survive. Again, this movie was, kind of a mess, but when the norm for years had been Hollywood action flicks that threw out science, to give some grand story that had a great many messy issues, than I'd say the wandering earth deserves a pass for its message of borderless comradery.

Actually idea of catastrophic space event threating Earth is really scary. We know there are a lot of meteorites, and we might know other threatening object or events that can be out there (gamma-ray bursts, rogue black holes, and what not), and on current level of development we are actually really powerless to withstand energies and masses of space objects.

It’s 1.22.23 Lunar New Year and just saw The Wandering Earth II in cinemas. It’s much more serious tone, plays more of a prequel to the first and not as comedic as the first one. Act I contained most of the funny stuff then is more serious in Acts II and III. Thoroughly enjoyed it more than the first one. But at 3hrs, it might be too long for the average movie goer. Think of Train to Busan sequel, Peninsula is The Wandering Earth, and Train to Busan is equal to The Wandering Earth II in terms of tone of the movie. Recommend it if you’ve seen the first.

Favourite part of the movie was when the Russian guy spoke Russian and joked about Gagarin and Russians, the French spoke French, the British Sergeant spoke Bri'ish, the Americans spoke in an American accent.
