You say this but you have probaly never met a UN peacekeeper. Like every other job, there are bad apples. Remember, about 99% people who join the UN as a peacekeeper want to help people. Just because some bad things have happened because of the 1% doesn't mean we should forget the good things that peacekeepers have done.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but with its warts and all, the UN has a better record in nation-building compared to the US military operating unilaterally. A 2005 RAND study found that seven out of eight UN operations have been judged a success, while the US only scores four out of eight. UN is far more cost-effective, too. I could bring up flagrant US abuses such as Abu Ghraib, but I think I'll not because in neither case such abuses are the norm.

Perhaps some countries don't want assistance by soldiers that will piss on corpses.
