I am in 10th class, a few months ago boy in my class touched my chest and when I got angry and yelled at him he and his friends called me crazy and sensitive and overdramatic etc.... I told the teachers and she just scolded him a little, but later told infront of whole class that girls should know how to mentain a proper dignity and respect for themselves and not cling to boys. She didn't pinpoint me but it was obvious that she was calling me a characterless girl... And when I told my parents the whole thing, they said I shouldn't have gone near boys and scolded me instead. But the thing is... I wasn't near him, I was in my seat I was completing my notebook, silently! I wasn't even looking at him or any other boys. He approached me and grabbed me out of nowhere but still I was told that it's my fault too. It wasn't until this recent Kolkata crime happen and I saw posts made by other Indian girls and women who were told the same thing that I realised it wasn't really my fault. I felt so disgusted. I feel disgusted in myself and in our Indian society.. i just desperately want to grow up fast and leave India as fast as possible. In our country if anyone criticizes our Indian society then we are told "oh so you want to live in some muslim country? Ok then go to Pakistan" atp I'd rather go to any muslim country.. at least the molesters get punished there..... Here people would blame EVERYONE except the bad men. All this society cares about religion and hating on other man made religious beliefs, cast system, hating gay and transgenders, calling girls bad names and victim blaming, and worshipping political leaders, making EVERYTHING about politics or Hindu vs muslim, Indian men being racist towards their own country's girls, colorism, literally BEATING PEOPLE HALF TO D3ATH FOR eating beef and shamelessly breaking houses of minorities. I am so so sick of it all!! But I'm not saying it's all bad, good things also happen here and I know there are good people too, good Indian men exists too but they are so few and that also makes me so uneasy,,, why are they so less? i feel so so scared sometimes for my future as a girl living in a country like this.. I don't want to live here. I really want to grow older fast. (Edit) Thank you for all the replies, some of it made me cry a little.. I hope someday people change for the better and make this world a safer place for women too.

Some men online in India right now are choosing this time insensitively to preach about how "it's not all men" or how "we are tarnishing our country's image" by saying stuff about Indian men. How funny is it that the principal is a man? How funny is it that most perpetrators in this whole thing are men? The riots and there is one rumoured girl who is the girlfriend of one of the perpetrators, and I'm not saying she is innocent if she took part in it, but surely she knew she would face the same end had she fought back. This is just reality, and men who STILL want to justify "it's not all men" should go and ask female friends or women around in their lives. Most of them have faced some harassment from men. When I was 16 a man while riding on his bike touched me inappropriately at about 6 pm i was wearing a big oversized T-shirt and long loose pants while I was walking back home on the road while it was raining. I've had a man who regularly came to my house to iron clothes for my family ask me to have sex with him, and despite rejecting, he continued to ask and even once pushed my house door to ask if anyone was at home. Those who argue "MEN GET RAPED TOO" need to realise that it's mostly MEN RAPING OTHER MEN. Most available research indicates that when men are sexually assaulted, the perpetrator is overwhelmingly male. Studies from other countries with similar cultural contexts suggest that around 90-95% of male rape victims are assaulted by other men, and this trend would likely be similar in India. Sexual assault by women against men, while less reported and less discussed, does exist but is typically a smaller percentage. But even then, this is ALL IRRELEVANT. We want JUSTICE FOR WOMEN. The so-called ones who are most protected are STILL going through such injustice.

@@oldestdreamdokjaI appreciate your support and her comment is not meant to be for people with good intentions. But whether there is a good intention or not, please understand comments like that does nothing but take away from the seriousness of the topic discussed. There is a time and place to say such things and when talking about a gruesome rape done by MULTIPLE men is not helping the argument. I hope you get my point. We know it’s not all men but don’t forget many of them are still men. This is excluding the men who support such criminals on the internet. Which then adds more to the numbers. And so women are understandably pissed. Men who get offended by such comments might need to ask themselves on why they are angry at the women but don’t want to keep other men in check. Just imagine your self in the woman’s position.

We need to stop worrying about men's feelings that get offended who say 'not all men'. And put the safety of women first. Facts are that majority of the perpetrators are men. Even in the times when there are male victims (men and young boys), the perpetrator is usually also a male. Buying into 'not all men', puts the lives of women, children and also men at risk.

Thank you for reacting to this. It's high time Indian women, and infact women all over the world, stop suppressing themselves because it "hurts the country's image". A fourteen year old boy, a four year old girl, a muslim nurse, a dalit minor, an upper caste Hindu doctor, all of them were raped and brutalized within weeks of each other in different parts of Northern and Central India. A Spaniard was gang-raped infront of her husband while biking across the country. All these victims were either mocked or denied the right to justice by incels on Indian social media. This is not a "political issue" or "an Indian issue". It is a global issue and must be condemned by EVERYONE! Indian women, children, and even men and animals are in a crisis because of this rise in brutality. Goons have been given political freehand in the name of religion and we can see that they do not discriminate when it comes to their perversions.

As an Indian who lives abroad (but with blood ties to West Bengal) it's been horrible to see how the government in WB has handled this. He is the ONLY notable politician there who has ignored Mumta Banergjee's wishes to sweep this under the rug and has protested and I am very proud of both of them. Another point is that I'm glad that people are taking action on this. If this happened in other places I doubt these kinds of protests would happen to this level. Proud of my country's citizens for constantly pushing for what's right. I truly hope this brings some kind of change. They treat my fellow sisters like ragdolls and for what? I won’t ever understand the pain and suffering these women have to take on just to exist as someone who is American. It’s so upsetting that I as one human being do not have the power nor the money to even think about tearing down that system either. That’s the problem. what u said is correct. theres actually been many continuous rape cases these following days in india after this heartbreaking incident. its as if the bad guys are actually empowered by this case and hence they are getting "motivated" to create more chaos and hurt women which is fucked up. this case is so bad that and far from justice that the ppl with this mindset are enjoyed over it and promoting it even more. it has gotten so much worse that even in our states and hometown there are countless rape cases going on. this is honestly so concerning and so horrifying that our moms are scared to go to their work places and has started affecting our daily lives. ps: the original video by stephanie is banned in our country due to a court order which is why im watching it here.

I agree. I am an Indian person myself and all the elders really want to women to act like women from the medieval period. They claim that women are being too “modern”. Like excuse you, this is a modern era, you need to adapt not them. And it's so shitty that people still believe in this after such a gruesome case recently, and so so so many cases that happen every day. Ps: I don't really think it's the religion (I am talking about hinduism) because honestly the religion itself says women are divine, and worships them yet the people who say they are “religious” are the first people to slash the character and existence of a woman. It is what it is. I don't think we can stop this in such a big country with so many corrupt officials. The bus rape case that happened in 2012 (it resulted in loads and loads of protests too) the victim got justice after 8,yes 8 damn years with one culprit being set free because he was “minor”. There are approx 5 big rape cases which I can remember that got into public view in the span of 3-4 months and yet none of the culprits got caught. That's how shitty the judiciary is in the country that has the biggest democracy.
