Mr. Burns, as a Canadian, I am aware of the sacrifices our soldiers made during WWI & WW2. However, I knew little of the history of American's battles against Japan. Your documentary is, without a doubt, the most comprehensive WWII series I have ever watched. It is extremely well done and I thank you for undertaking this project. Kudos!!

As a veteran, I don’t associate any of this with war or service, this song is more of what America itself stands for at its heart, and militaristic intervention even when necessary is not what America stands for. Sharing the blessings we’ve received means with everyone, not just ourselves.

I’m also a vet and I couldn’t agree with you more. To me, the song represents what we could be, what we absolutely should be. A gorgeous anthem. All we've been given By those who came before The dream of a nation Where freedom would endure The work and prayers of centuries Have brought us to this day What shall be our legacy? What will our children say? Let them say of me I was one who believed In sharing the blessings I received Let me know in my heart When my days are through America, America I gave my best to you Each generation from the plains To distant shore with the gifts What they were given Were determined to leave more Battles fought together Acts of conscience fought alone These are the seeds From which America has grown Let them say of me I was one who believed In sharing the blessings That I received Let me know in my heart When my days are through America, America I gave my best to you For those who think They have nothing to share Who fear in their hearts There is no hero there Know each quiet act of dignity Is that which fortifies The soul of a nation That never dies Let them say of me I was one who believed In sharing the blessings I received Let me know in my heart When my days are through America, America I gave my best to you America I gave my best to you Todo lo que nos han dado Por aquellos que vinieron antes El sueño de una nación Donde la libertad perduraría El trabajo y las oraciones de los siglos. nos han traído hasta este día ¿Cuál será nuestro legado? ¿Qué dirán nuestros hijos? Que digan de mi Yo era uno que creía Al compartir las bendiciones recibí Déjame saber en mi corazón Cuando mis días hayan terminado América, América te di lo mejor de mi

"The War" is an amazing documentary! It was a real eye opener. I learned so much about WWII & the brave men who fought & died, not only for America's freedom, but for all other countries who were threatened with German, Japanese, & Italian occupation & genocide. The sheer brutality & number of lives lost for something so inane as political power, greed, & jealousy is astounding & near unimaginable. Thank God for every sacrifice made during the years of that horrific war. May we never know devestation like that again.

Six decades ago, John F. Kennedy challenged us Americans to focus not on what our country can do for us, but what we can do for our beloved country. Tonight President Biden brought that full circle when he ended his speech with Norah Jones’ “American Anthem”: “America, America, I gave my best to you!” As it becomes time to select our next President let us keep that spirit of selfless sacrifice - the love for country and comrades that inspires Medal of Honor recipients to make the ultimate sacrifice - in mind. All we've been given By those who came before The dream of a nation Where freedom would endure The work and prayers of centuries Have brought us to this day What shall be our legacy? What will our children say? Let them say of me I was one who believed In sharing the blessings I received Let me know in my heart When my days are through America, America I gave my best to you

My mother and father were both volunteers and both serving in the United States Army in Paris in August of 1944 in the same headquarters company (Adsec, COMMZ). They met briefly for 10 minutes as he was passing through on the way to the front, and my father, an officer, told my mother, a sergeant, that he was going to marry her after the war. She laughed at him and they didn't see each other again until May of 1945, when he came back from the front. She thought he had been killed in action. He proposed again, and this time, she accepted. They got married in November, 1945, and raised 8 children together, who produced 14 grandchildren, and at last count, 7 great grandchildren. Three of their sons served during Vietnam and received 100% disabilities from their service. One of their grandsons served in the Navy of the United States during the Gulf War, while two more grandsons (Army and USMC) served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their eldest daughter served 30 years as a Navy wife to a career officer. Many of us work as nurses and teachers, police and firemen, and as election judges. To say we are a family of Americans humbly proud of service to our country and community doesn't even come close to expressing what we feel about our parents and our country, which has given us so very much. Thanks, Ken Burns, for this love letter to America's servicemen and women and all those on the home front. Thank you, Norah Jones, for this beautiful anthem. And thank you to those who gave and still give; all gave some, and some gave all.

I am so thankful God let me be born in America. I am humbled by what this nation has done in our history. For those who base their decision on who we are by what our sometimes rogue government does let me point you to a better example. Our military is strictly voluntary and our longest war in our history is the current one. The war on terror. We have drafted no one. Let that sink in. Americans believe in freedom and it is our hopes every man, women and child can live free. We're not perfect but we are closer than any nation in history has gotten and we are still improving.
