The War of the Dwarves and Dragons was a conflict that led to the abandonment of the Grey Mountains by the Dwarves, the re-establishment of the Kingdom under the Mountain and the ransaking of Erebor by Smaug the Golden in Tolkien’s works! Thank you all so much for watching, let me know your thoughts about the War of the Dwarves and Dragons in the comments below! As always, a great thanks to the online artists whose visual works made this video possible! If you are one of the artists, please let me know and I will post your name and a link to your work in this description!

Hey everyone, I really hope you all enjoyed the video! I wanted to address this here since I keep seeing comments about it. From what I can tell in Tolkien’s works, the diphthong “ai” typically makes an “eye” sound, so “Dúnedain” would be pronounced “Dune-eh-dine” and “Dáin” would be “dine”. As for “Óin” and “Glóin” there are competing theories about whether they are pronounced “glow-in” and “oh-in” or some variation of that, as “oi” typically makes an “oy” sound in Tolkien’s works. I’ll try to keep improving my pronunciations as much as I can! Thank you for the support!

Don't worry too much. Pronunciations change over time and can even change based on region and culture. Tolkien knew how fluid language was more than most people will ever realize. As long as we know what you are referring to when you pronounce a word, then communication has been achieved.

I'd just like to say I really enjoyed watching half of your narratives about the lore and legends behind Tolkien's work over the past few days. Although I'm not sure how much of a video any of these suggestions might be, I'd love to know more about: The kings of Gondor: rites and rituals(ie: the king's song; you mentioned in the history of Aragorn, his responsibility in healing his soldiers; why the heathen kings of old were cremated, etc) Music of middle earth, history/ background behind each entities style.

“If more people valued home, above gold, this world would be a merrier place...” ― Thorin Oakenshield I received my Men of the West tee in the post last week. "If more of us valued food and cheer and song over hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." - Thorin's last words. Those words tie into the War of Dwarves and Dragons as it did for the Quest for Erebor. While I can't blame the Dwarves for wanting what is their's it is best to understand when to let go of one's possessions. And yet still one must respect the Dwarves for their tenacity against the overwhelming odds presented before them. Another point it seems these two races were destined to go to war and be in conflict since Azaghâl wounded Glaurung then getting killed in return during Nirnaeth Arnoediad

The art at 3:58 - 4:06 is probably the closest to what a actual dwarf from Tolkien's work would look like that's ever been drawn. No ridiculous weapons or crazy armor. Just a simple bearded axe with blunt hammer on the back, seax, and thick gambeson. I love how the artist even includes a blade sheath for the axe. That's nice work and is one of the most realistic depictions of a fictional race I've ever seen.

The vast majority of the dragons in the north were Cold Drakes, who were unable to breathe fire, Smaug was one of the few remaining (or even the last) Fire Drakes, but still, a few thousand pounds of scales and claws that may or may not fly is still a force to be reckoned with, just a lot less destructive than a fire breathing one.
