Y'know I could believe the tripod shown in this trailer being made by the same Martians that made their war machines in the Spielberg film, just separated by time. Like the difference between a Mark I tank and a M1A2 Abrams. Also agree, that fog horn sound from the film was chilling.

@@admiralackbar9307 Actually I believe he is referring to the Timothy Hines adaption. it was made in 2005 and was accurate to the book. so much so that the characters often recited lines read straight from the novel itself. CGI was terrible, acting was terrible but it is and probably will be the most faithful adaptation from book to film we will get.

Toa Sully Didn’t you forget that in-between, there were several invasions? Like in 1953 when they attempted to invade in saucer-like tripods? We even nuked them and that didn’t stop them in the long-run. Then, in 1967 a man warned us of oncoming invaders. He was... I think a architect or something. Warned us and told us to keep an eye on their hands, specifically their little finger. Then, in 1988, the martians (now evolved or something) re-attempted to start up the invasion again and re-acquired their ships. We blew them up and for a while a battle in secret happened. That was like two... maybe three years. Then nothing. Almost feels like years ago, but the invasion of 2005 wasn’t that long ago. And I’m surprised by that.

*No one would have believed, that in the second decade of the twenty first century, that television series were being watched from the timeless rooms of people's houses. ....* No one could have dreamed that those television mini series were being scrutinised as if by someone with a microscope that studies actors and actresses that swarm and multiply thanks to the BBC TV License. .. Few men (and woman! Thanks Stan!) even considered the possibility of there being another cool version of War of the Worlds... ...And yet, across the gulf of the internet, Minds immeasurably superior to our own, began to write and film... and slowly ....and surely ...they made their plans to entertain us....*

The only versions I know of that set it in its original Victorian-Edwardian time period were an obscure 2005 version released in the wake of the Spielberg version, and the rock opera.) Also, nice touch naming the main characters George (after Herbert George Wells) and Amy (after Wells' second wife).

The chances of this being a decent mini-series are a million to one... ... but still, they made it. (and I'm hoping for the 1:1000000.

The first episode was good, well shot, great acting. My only gripe is the 'other' storyline they're running, the one that isn't in the novel. Found it very jarring. Plus it also removed the tension from the main storyline (trying not to give away spoilers!). Also very surprised that Canada and New Zealand are getting it before the UK!

No, it's set in Edwardian rather than Victorian England as it's easier to force in the agenda that way.

@@Sabundy No, you haven't made any mistake. The BBC did that! I hope you didn't take my comment as having a go at your comment. I thought it was going to be set in the late 1900s (and follow the novel). I hoped for more from the Beeb.

@@LordTechnopants i read the book many years ago and so only remembered it being set in the late 1800s or so. Around the time of the Zulu wars.

@@Sabundy I think the main reason they have shifted a few years into the Edwardian era is because it is easier to have a female character, with a science degree living 'in sin' and pregnant as believable in the 20th rather than the 19th century. Of course none of that is in the book or tells the story of 'TWOTW'. Presumably they wanted to attract female viewers, which is a good thing, but not at the expense of the whole story?
