Ngl this game is my biggest guilty pleasure. I haven't bought or played it myself but I really enjoy watching other people play it. It's just really cool to see people actively doing something they want to do and learning how to do it, which shows in every improved chapter. It's still dumb as hell and not a perfect game but it's improving. It is interesting seeing them get better as creators, and I think if they'd approached this from that standpoint, of making something and improving, they'd have had a lot more good will. I know we like to complain about the worst parts of every community and the Internet, but honestly it seems like the good people form around those who are humble and heartfelt. We've lost the inoculation to negativity we used to have when I was playing games in dial up at 13. As someone who joined a mascot horror project that was initially created out of spite for Garten of Banban, this video was… weirdly touching? Like, despite all the flaws of the Banban games (and the primal hatred my boss has for them), I’ve made TONS of connections with people thanks to this game. Even though I’ve become frustrated with the current state of Banban’s story, I’m forever grateful for the opportunities this weird little game gave me. Heck, I even fulfilled my dream of joining a group where everyone works on the same project!

I never disliked BanBan because it was bad (even though it was), I personally disliked BanBan because I thought it was a scam. A way to trick people into paying for a shitty experience. Garten of Ban Ban is such a fascinating beast to look at in real time. It's actually a record of two amateur game developers growing and improving as people and as game makers. From a first game that was sloppy, boring, with a barebones plot, and surrounded by the drama of the developers being unable to take any criticism, the games have slowly evolved into decent and varied experiences and the devs have grown into more mature people that can handle and learn from criticism. The games are no masterpieces by any means, and they are still quite clunky. But the journey of improvement is very clear. I hope that by the end of the series of games, we get a game that can be called not just decent or respectable, but actually good.

I will give props to the brothers for actually taking criticism to heart and being more open to their vocal critics such as yourself. I also like that they don't seem to be taking the game seriously like they did at the start - they acknowledge how much of a meme the IP is and are running with that rather than pretend that they're making a groundbreaking story. That still doesn't make me forgive them for their poorly optimized models though. Maybe the newer chapters are better about it, but holy hell those first couple chapters were horrendous.
