I think the biggest problem I have with this game is the ending. In all the Wario Land games, it ends with Wario getting his treasure. Here however, Wario gets NOTHING! This just makes the entire games adventure pointless, plus you feel bad for Wario.

It's quite interesting how wario games in the 2008 revival followed the WarioWare trope where wario ends up being the butt of the joke, which in itself feels influenced by wario in his early days in the 90s when he was more so a villain than a treasure hunter (super Mario land 2, Mario & wario and wario's woods)

​​@@ssg-eggunnerI think its more that the platformers wanted to do something closer to WL1, where Wario ends up losing what appears to be the treasure he was after to a rival (Mario for WL1, Syrup for WLSI, and Cannoli for MoD), but then the game leaves it to the player's performance at gathering treasures to whether Wario gets his happy ending or not, as he still gets to keep those to sell for profit, only difference being that unlike WL1, Wario's happy ending isn't directly linked with the main story, but is left more subtly and shown in stuff like Wario's living room and garage While WarioWare often just punishes Wario for being too selfish or greedy, karma biting him back, and only sometimes he just gets screwed for the funny

@@ssg-eggunner yeh, tbh those endings do rub the wrong way, I guess they wanna punish him somehow because he didn't save the land for the right reasons, as he's driven by selfish ambition and greed, which may explain why WL2, 3, 4, and World preferred to focus on Wario's happy ending based on the treasure he gathered through the player's input, or straight up reward him with loot by default and the rest is just extra, since that sounds overall fairer to him, the man broke his back to rightfully earn his reward, and freed the innocent from their torments, even if unintentionally, for fate to tell him "heck off, u don't deserves this gold if yer heart isn't as golden", that's as rude as Wario himself making his friends work for him, only to then run away with the profits, the guy already did his part of the job, pay him! x,d

After a lot of annoyance with the dolphin on my own, I discovered you can bounce on his crown. It doesn't hurt him, but it does cut short the ball spitting. It'll make the fight go ever so slightly faster and let you focus on the minions.

The only issue I think would be Artsy Wario, because that transformation capitalizes from the fact that everything around Wario is free space for taps or doodling, allowing you to place blocks and attack enemies everywhere on the screen

As someone who loved playing this game as a kid, I can give my two cents to this vid. - Since the game focuses on a Thief story, I would have expected for them to incorporate something like a hiding or maybe a smokebomb type mechanics. For the hiding mechanic, I would imagine it could be a temporary 'safe zone' kind of ability, while a smoke bomb could be used to confuse and disorient enemies ESPECIALLY for the enemies that crowd to close. - As for the 'mini games', instead of those for getting treasure, I would have instead had 'special enemies or shops', that were perhaps holding onto the disguises and treasures throughout the game. And considering that Wario is collecting MONEY, he could use the money to purchase the disguises for the game. And for those who want to 100 percent complete, perhaps use the disguises to find more money to purchase the treasures you need to do so. It seems more fitting to do that than to be forced to play a treasure chest game to get what you want. Outside of that, good video talking about it!!

Yeah I also played the game a lot as a kid, and those minigames are a major problem because they're pretty generic and bland as hecc for the most part, and they repeat over and over throughout the game, with difficulty being the only differentiating factor, which usually just makes them more annoying than anything

I have to say things. First, the fact that after you unlocked new costumes, you can go back to previous levels to discover new treasures and new rooms is really good. Secondly, if you're a kid, it's easier to draw the costumes. I liked the plot twist and the menu where we can read funny things about the treasures and ennemies we found. Also, THE FINAL LEVEL'S MUSIC IS AMAZING, AND THE SONG OF THIS LEVEL, IT'S SO HYPE .Finally, to me, the minigames are good (and i found a way to not receive any damages from the bombs that appear if we wail a level, and this way is by using the electrocution power just when the bomb is about to explose, bc while wario is using this power, he's invincible)

Dude, I can kinda see what you mean for the controls coming from Warioland but as a platformer they are serviceable, and the drawings are super lenient like, you were straight up drawing a < sign not a checkmark. Heck, not even a checkmark, a straight line tilted upwards was enough. I've consistently made block with circles. But as a whole the drawing does make it more sluggish. Though the game as a whole is slow as molasses I don't really struggle that much with it. I say it as someone who plays this game once a blue moon when I remember it existed. Do fuck the chest puzzles, even if younger me actually enjoyed them quite a bit.

🤣 okay I didn’t expect you to say that he is an absolute god, but I do agree! My love for Wario strangely did not start to grow until smash bros brawl, Warioware smooth moves, and Wario land shake it back in 2008! The first time I met him was back in Mario kart Wii, the second ever Nintendo game I have played, where I liked Wario, but didn’t get attached to him until those games came around! The rest is history as they say, as Wario slowly but surely became one of my all time favorite characters of the entire Nintendo franchise, and I love it! ^^

I would have to agree with Wario: Master of Disguise is definitely one of those games that no one talks about. You could argue that Virtual Boy: Wario Land is another non talked entry. As everyone, including myself, remembers Wario Land 1-4 & Wario Land: Shake it (Wario Land: The Shake Dimension in PAL territories). This is totally irreverent to Wario and his games, but another game that time forgot well in North America anyway. Was Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, which only saw release everywhere except North America. Which isn't the only spinoff Zelda game to feature Tingle as their were two others only released in Japan, those being Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love and Tingle's Balloon Fight DS. Heh... I just realized three of those games I mentioned were released on the Nintendo DS and one the failed Virtual Boy, but seriously, Nintendo, you had a chance to re-release Virtual Boy Wario Land on the Nintendo 3DS. Seriously, do we as fans have to make these games playable or even translate ourselves? I'm still waiting for that official Western version of Mother 3 Nintendo, and I know I am not alone on that one!

I'm not ashamed to admit this is probably my second favorite game of all time. I always thought the gameplay and controls worked fine. I didn't mind Wario being sluggish and if I just wanted to speed him up, I just switch him back to his Purple Wind form. I loved the new characters, the music, the story and the treasure. The treasures and enemies all have these funny descriptions which such great humor, probably the best humor I ever heard in my life. Shake It has funny treasure descriptions, but Master of Disguise is funnier. The dialogue between the characters is also pretty damn funny. And I never minded the minigames. Earlier this year, I played the Japanese version "Phantom Thief Wario The Seven" (which I think is a great name) and it has some treasures different from the Western and European releases. Someone should put those as regional differences on The Cutting Room Floor. Did I mention that the Japanese version's title screen has singing!? I'm making plans to write a comic series inspired by Master of Disguise called "Norman Penguin: Codename Trick-Or-Treat".

Wario isn't all about speed. It was just in WL4 and Shake. But guess what? It was just to LEAVE THE LEVEL. (Unless we count that one level in WL4 and even then it's just ONE level) Wario was about puzzles and platforming. Not being Sonic. Or I guess now we say Peppino. (Urgh)

i had this game i both loved and hated it at the same time i had a lot of annoying moments when i got stuck or frustrated with the controls . I did like the look of the game it was very unique the first stage reminds me a lot of a vacation i went on in the year i bought the game i also i just wanted more wario back then so it was close enough to the wario lands games for me to ignore the flaws. but it shows off a lot of annoying trends nintendo was into back then like you got the more obvious issues of it using all the gimmicks of the ds. touch screens were still new so people were not sure what works and what doesn't modern games wont make these mistakes. and the less obvious one is the style of the game they tried to be quirky and soft edgy and you had a lot of moments were you got stuck .i noticed similar moments in some wii games like super paper mario its hard to describe but i personally don't like it . i know i just said i like the style of the game but its a mixed bag .
