Nice to see a proper review of a lesser known winter clothing brand, I picked up the Gortex version of 66° North's Tindur down jacket last winter and apart from being rather expensive it's possibly the best down jacket I've ever had, round where I live the TNF Nupste along with anything by Canada Goose or Moncler has become a winter uniform for anyone under 35 who's into clothing so it's also nice to have something a bit different. I'd be interested to try the Jokla, much as I love my Canada Goose I'm probably going to swap it this winter for a parka I'm less likely to see someone else wearing, Nobis and OSC are good for that as well. On the subject of the OSC Mission, I asked them for some technical specs as there's so little info out there and was told it has sizing that's similar to the expedition grade Canada Goose parkas, an overall weight of about 7lb (3.2kg) and a fill weight of approximately 1.32lb (600g), to be honest I expected more for something rated to -60c, perhaps I'll have to get one and try it out for myself.

600g of down, with a fp 800 and a 90:10 down feathers ratio is a lot of down. The fjallraven expedition down parka n°1 has 650g of down with fp800 and a 95:5 ratio and is sensibly loftier than snow mantra and resolute parka

The Canada goose mantra and expedition are used by the scientist in Antarctica. They are also considered the warmest jackets in the world so I'm not sure I agree with you on this.

Great review. I just bought a jacket from 66 North - women's Krafla coat. While I liked the jacket... for no reason, a hole appeared after 3 weeks in the front of the jacket in the shell! They are refusing a refund... repair only. I was hoping to invest in a coat for many many years to come and now I'm worried I'll have to replace it if more holes appear. I hope your jacket lasts.

Yea that unfortunate. I find those types of down jackets with the lighter out fabric to poke holes easier. Depending how big the whole is, try getting some tenacious tape from amazon or something. I've used it to patch other down jackets in the past and its worked great. Try getting the tape in the same colour as the jacket if possible.

I picked that jacket up when I was in Iceland, I love it !!! For some reason when I have the hood up, it feels like the whole jacket sits on my head and not on my shoulders.
@WillFaulkner
@WillFaulkner 2 жыл бұрын
Yea I find that too some times. What I usually do is shape that bend the outer trim of the hood to be more of an oval that is taller than wide and it takes the weight off for me. I also find if the zipper is done up all the way, the hood isn't as heavy on your head. Also really cool you went to Iceland, hoping to go this year. Do you have a favorite spot you recommend checking out?

@@WillFaulkner I also own the Outdoor Canada Survival Atka, which is just amazing, I would say the quality is a bit higher and more robust and cheaper, but still love my Jokla. Yes I recommend the entire country :) ive been there twice now and will probably go back later in the year. I would say the best time ive had was snowmobiling on one of their glaciers, just have to time it right with the weather so I wouldn't book it until you are there (depending on season).

OSC is 90% Goose/duck, 10% feathers. They dont say how much they put in it, but if u pick up any of their Mission or Core Collection, u will feel the thickness of their parkas. Trust me, it is super thick!! The thickest of any brand I've seen!!

My comments dissapears all the time. Don't know why... Anyway, I will try again. The name is Fjällräven expedition down parka no 1. They seems to have stopped the production, but I managed to buy one in october from Amazon. The total weight is 2650g, so it's a massive parka. 800 fill from 95/5 goose down, and around 750 grams of down in my XL parka.

hello and congratulations. Are you interested in understanding what size you wore in the test? how tall are you? Also, dressing relatively lightly at -10 degrees does it still keep you warm? I have a Canada Goose Expedition and unfortunately, in the sleeves already at -2 degrees you can feel the cold spots in the seams very strongly. I would like to understand how this north 66 behaves. Thank you very much

I'm 6'1, and wearing a large. I have been plenty warm with just a t-shirt to -10 Celcius. If your talking -10 fahrenheit, I would wear a fleece under the jacket.

Hello and thanks for the reply. I am 180 cm tall and weigh 92 kg. I'm 49 and normally shouldn't wear it with bulky clothing. I'm physically quite imposing, I have large balls but no belly. In your opinion, for how your size L fits, I should take a size Medium or Large like the ruo jokla?
@francescocolavolpe4660
@francescocolavolpe4660 Жыл бұрын
A curiosity, have you encountered cold spots inside ? For example in the sleeves ? With my Canada Goose expedition parka unfortunately already at zero degrees centigrade after 10 minutes if I remove the parka inside the bust is warm but if I touch the sleeves you can feel the stitches cold in the seams.. For me it's absurd at zero degrees or -5 centigrade to have this problem with a 1500 Euro shipping apo
@WillFaulkner

@@francescocolavolpe4660 At your size, Id go with the large. The medium I think would be snug especially in the shoulders.
@WillFaulkner
@WillFaulkner Жыл бұрын
@@francescocolavolpe4660 I haven't experienced it but some people do say this jacket does get cold spots as well. Mainly near the front zipper. I wonder if these parkas have slight cold spots for breathability? Or maybe its tough to get cold spots out entirely. It is unfortunate given how much they cost.
