Just some input from somebody who has been a rocker since rock began. technical, shredding, etc doesn't equate to good. Rock started off as basic as it gets in the 50's. Slowly evolved into all the current subgenres. I like some doo wop from back then as much as i like anything since. My top half dozen rock bands today are all female. The warning is one of the top 2. For me, #1 i gotta "feel" them. #2 gotta be able to play live. #3 gotta have good lyrics #4 gotta have decent songwriting skills. Been listening to dudes all my life, glad i'm still here to enjoy this wave of rocker chicks. I've always listened to many different genres of music from all over the world. Gives u an appreciation & recognition of the simplest to the most complex music. After all, it started with someone beating on a log or rock with a stick. About as basic as it gets but we wouldn't be listening to what we have today without it. Flashy sweep pickers got nothin on Django or Sergovia, etc. A spectacle onstage is entertaining but doesn't necessarly make it great music and usually it's a femine voice that sings the baby to sleep

Thanks, Charlie, for reacting to The Warning. The Villarreal Sisters make a kind of "classic" rock not too complicated, but excellently done and attractive. That's why they've built a huge following of loyal fans from all over the world, The Warning Army, who will give you lots of information about the band in the comments.

As good as this is, Disciple from the same concert is better and heavier. These girls don’t struggle at all with heavy songs. Animosity is one of their lighter songs. Pau, the drummer, is incredible and in other songs can sing and drum at the same time. You can’t make an opinion on one song - they have 47 original songs in three albums and an EP and two singles. They are from Monterrey, MX. The Warning will be touring in your neighbothood starting this Saturday in Plymouth. They open four Muse shows over the next five weeks. They will also be doing shows in Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Czechia, and Poland.

The drummer, named Pau, pronounced like Pow - I know. It's a great name for a drummer, right? - short for Paulina, wrote the lyrics for this song. It was prompted by a friend who pissed her off. The moral of the story, don't piss off Pau or she'll write a song about you. LOL They have a dark concept album called Queen of the Murder Scene (their second album). The album tells the story of a girl who loves a guy who doesn't even acknowledge that she exists. Her love turns to obsession as she stalks him and finally murders him. Then the story follows her descent into madness and self-destruction. A great album that was written by these three young ladies when they were in their teens. They have a total of three albums and two EPs. Even though their ages range from Dany (Daniela, the guitarist) at 23, to Pau at 21, and Ale (Alejandra, the bassist) at 18. they have been performing as a band for over ten years. They just completed an 18-city headliner tour of the US with the support of Plush and Holy Wars, and will be joining Muse in the UK this Saturday and will open for them in five shows before turning their attention to several European festivals and some Headliner shows. You might want to check out some of their recent performances from the 18-City tour for a sample of what they sound like live. I suggest searching for their most recent song, MORE, officially released on May 12th and currently charting in the US. And as others in the comments have directed, any of the shows from the Teatro Metropolitan concert in Mexico City last August will give you an excellent, professionally shot, and recorded example of what it is like to see them live. Don't let their petite statures fool you. As Lzzy Hale of Halestorm described them while The Warning was opening for many of Halestorm's shows last Summer and Fall, "They are fierce...They attack the audience."

Enjoyed your reaction!! I think the real key to _The Warning_ and what first attracted me to them... is their *lyrics* . Every tune is a story, and every aspect of their music is geared towards telling the story - in whatever genera the storyline fits. They wander all over the place, musically. Which is tremendous fun in and of itself, especially because they do it so skillfully. Every song is a *composition* , carefully designed and constructed to tell the tale. I look forward to their future albums, but the three they've already released are each in their own way absolutely epic. And as far as destroying instruments goes.. well, they just sold a kick drum skin Pau demolished several months ago, for 150 dollars. It absolutely wasn't intentional, but she keeps a "quiver" of spare drumsticks by her side for a *reason*... 😋 You have not heard the last of this band; not by a long shot.

Many of the things you say are opinion-based and you are of course entitled to your opinion. And of course you can't have a complete understanding of what they do after one song. That's totally fine. On one thing you are just simply wrong though. I would have thought the days of people being like "okay, they're pretty good ... well ... for being women..." are far behind us. Great to see you reacting to The Warning. Regarding your comment about female singers in rock/metal, I am not sure, but seems like you need to discover European rock/metal bands, as most of the best ones have female singers and they are some of the greatest vocalists you will ever hear, especially Floor Jansen of Nightwish, who in my opinion is the greatest current female singer on the planet, but there are others in bands like Epica, The Gathering, Vuur, etc. and there is also my second favorite singer Brittney Slayes of Unleash The Archers.

Oh man, power is what these ladies are made of. Seriously, Dany the singer guitarist, is a hurricane, and Pau the drummer is a dynamite truck. Ale on bass has the gravity of a small planet to hold them together. I think you’re making a big mistake when you keep repeating the words easy, simple, basic, etc. You seem to be presuming a lot about what the “Audience is there for.” This song may not be the best to display the complexity you are looking for, or maybe because they are female you didn’t look too hard. Seems you already made your mind up about that.

It’s sad that some of the fans don’t listen to what you say and make their own interpretations of it! I’m 71 years old from the UK and have been following them from when I saw a 6 year old Paulina playing the drums and singing, it was amazing to me! It’s been a joy watching them grow into what they are now, a great band that is going to be big. Their songwriting is what makes them special to me, it’s so meaningful and relatable to. It’s not fair to expect you to make a full judgement of their abilities from one song which to me is not really representative of them. The problem is that there are no two songs alike, they are stylistically similar but different in terms of composition and content. You were fair and I’ve liked your reaction, looking forward to more!

One of the biggest "tells" any reactor can give is saying a song isn't "technical" or complex. Guess what? 98% of rock songs aren't. Some of the greatest rock bands in history don't have a single moment that meets this "standard" that only appears when a reactor is covering a bias (that they are often unaware of). The Warning are superlative musicians, both technically and in musicianship. The roll Pau does, that you ridiculously reduced to a straight rhythm, is a perfectly controlled build filled with accents and variation in texture. It is HIGHLY technical. Dany strums a very complex and active chord pattern in the prechorus whilst singing lead, a degree of skill you'd be hard pressed to find in most bands. The Warning are so good they make is seem easy. The through line of their song is always clear to the listener, so on the surface it sounds 'simple', but if you have a good ear, you can hear how active every instrument is, how they trade off parts and fill the sonic space far bigger than most 3-piece can. Good musicians make complexity sound natural, even easy. Good composers make original music sound familiar.

Couldn’t disagree more with your male /female assessment. For my money, best rock trio out there, of any gender. Their fan base in N America skews towards those who grew up in the 60’s through to the 90’s and enjoyed classic rock. They have a generally younger fan base in Latin America. I, like many who will be commenting, had lost interest in the current music scene. These young women inspired me to buy my first concert tickets in decades.

Thanks for your honest reaction. It confirms my skepticism about the girls making it big. They are too intellectual, too subtle for today's music scene. No wonder their concept album almost went unnoticed by the mainstream. Most fans believe that solos on guitars & drums (occasionally the bass) define great artists. Hence a song gets judged more by its ornate instrumentation rather than what it is conveying. The lyrics & message in a song therefore take a backseat. It becomes more of an instrumental piece or jazz tune for the contemporary music fan. So for a band like The Warning their metaphorical songwriting becomes redundant straight away. As do their subtle intelligent music arrangements that sound deceptively simple. Subtle innovators seldom get appreciated over showy shredders nowadays. Pink Floyd, Dire Straits would have found it difficult to make an impact today. The highlighted "advantage" of male singers explains why so many front women in rock have to perform in their nightwear with expletive laden interactions. They have to bring something extra to engage audiences that are predominantly male. Cosplay becomes important as well - gothic, vampire, coy girls, maids, etc. The Warning do not fit in. They will incorporate solos only if the song demands it. They have done all those aggressive fills & showmanships in their teens during their first 6 years of existence as a band. They are old hands now with a decade under the belt. However their high technical level of musicianship gets noticed by a handful of discerning listeners only. As one commentator noted elsewhere that he has never seen so many ex-musicians, musicians & music theory savvy fans discuss a "simple" band like The Warning. Whether the Villarreal sisters stay an elite band playing in small venues in front of dedicated fans or fill up stadiums in the future remain to be seen. Reaction like this tells me the latter possibility is bleak.
@TheCharlieSmithChannel
@TheCharlieSmithChannel Жыл бұрын
Hmm I don't think it needs to be hyper technical to be viable for mainstream. The opposite in fact. You don't find the ridiculous musicality in the mainstream because its too much and goes over most people's heads. Obviously I can only speak for this song as its the only one I've done but despite it having great lyrics the track sounds very dated. This sound has passed and so I think it is that that will hinder them making it big rather than a lack of technicality. As many people have pointed out, they are endorsed by muse. Muse are big because they got huge when that sound was huge and they were pioneers of something a bit different. But they're not in the mainstream now. They have millions of fans because they got big when that sound was big. These girls seem to be trying to get big on a sound that is very dated. Doesn't mean they can't have a good and succesful career but I think they will struggle to hit the 'big time' with songs like this. They're 20 years too late
@MrSudeepdas
@MrSudeepdas Жыл бұрын
@@TheCharlieSmithChannel Yeah, as I said earlier the average music fan nowadays won't appreciate the girls' subtleties in bass or drums. The fans are too shallow, too easily influenced by showmanship & unwanted musicality. Intellectualism is a non-existent word in their lives. They will bang their heads to noise in the name of being contemporary. Thankfully The Warning aren't locked in a genre or influenced by any band. Yes, their idols are Muse but most of their songs hardly reflect any influence. Let's see how it goes.

Your little speech about rock music and female singers was one of the most condescending and idiotic "know it all" critiques I have heard in a very long time. It is doubling annoying since this is the day that the great Tina Turner passed away. But I guess you think she was just another female that couldn't possibly have the power to sing rock. I was born in 1960 and was fortunate to become a rock music fan at an early age. I can remember when I heard the news that my fellow Texan Janis Joplin had died (I guess she wasn't up to your rock standards either). I was a huge fan of The Runaways, Heart, Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Deborah Harry, Donna Summer, Chrissie Hynde, Grace Slick. Patti Labelle, Bonnie Tyler (I could keep going). Have you heard of Doro Pesch, Angela Gossow, Liv Kristine, Amy Lee, Cristina Scabbia, Maria Brink, Morgan Lander, Fernanda Lira, Melissa Bonny, Brittney Slayes, Otep Shamaya, Alissa White-Gluz, Mayu, Tatiana Shmayluk, Floor Jansen, Lzzy Hale (I could keep going)? I could make a long list of powerful current female blues rock singers but I will just go with Beth Hart, Shemekia Copeland, Sue Foley, Ana Popovich, Samantha Fish, Joanne Shaw Taylor and Susan Tedeschi. From one arrogant ass that knows about rock and metal to another that obviously knows very little about rock and metal, I strongly urge you never to discuss female vocalists in rock music ever again.

When you think of rock you think of a male voice. You're correct. Want to know why. Because females were not very represented in rock music for most of it's existence. You should listen to more of their music to get a flavor of their style, as it varies considerably. I think that the term I would use is "approachable" rather than "easy listening", which is its own genre that's very different. It's true that they don't focus on hypertechnical instrumentals -- an excellent choice of word -- instead emphasizing solid structure, intelligent lyrics, vocal strength, ensemble skills, and such. IMO this is the least interesting of the songs I have heard from this concert. Disciple, Martirio, and Enter Sandman -- a complete rework -- show them to much better advantage.

They don't have a specific genre of rock. Right I'm going to give you all some sound advice here. Reactors don't care about your beloved artist in the same way that you do the first time we hear them. We don't have that exposure and aren't in any way emotionally invested. If you continue to fail to understand that and go in on anyone who has anything to say that isn't beaming praise then you will ensure that we don't react to them again because we can't be bothered to deal with you. We get it, you love the band. But don't take personal views and perspectives as a personal attack on yourselves. You are actually working against the best interests of the band you love so much when you do that, even though you feel like you're defending them.
