This song becomes a whole different beast live. They opened their Pepsi Center concert with it. They hit the ground at 200 mph - and accelerated from there.

A fun fact about the core bassline of this song - Paulina, the drummer who also plays piano (all three began as classically-trained pianists) sits at the home piano working out initial, basic ideas, concepts and melodies for the majority of the band's songs. However, one day while out grocery shopping, this bassline popped into her head while walking down an aisle. So she wouldn't forget it, she took out her phone and recorded it on the Garage Band app. When she got home, she immediately played it for her sister, the bassist, Alejandra. Long story short, that shopping trip ultimately gave us a killer, catchy and infectious bassline to one of their best and most-loved songs. In a recent interview, Paulina cited the song as one of her top-five favorites songwriting-wise.

Similar to how Paul McCartney "wrote" the melody to Yesterday while dreaming, and when he woke up he immediately scrambled around to get the melody down before he forgot it. He had a hard time believing the melody arrived in a dream fully-formed so while working on the lyrics he kept playing the melody to just about everyone he knew, asking them if they had heard the tune elsewhere. Paul thought he had heard the melody sometime in the past, and simply dreamed the tune of an already existing song... Nope, he hadn't, and it became the most covered song in history, with over 3000 versions recorded.

For you, being an independent band is very important, also for them, even though they are signed with Lava Records, they remain independent creatively. They negotiated a 5 albums contract with Lava Records, this negotiation took 7 months, keep in mind that they were a lot younger at that time. They wanted to stay true to themselves and they wanted total freedom to create their music. Also they maintain control to their patreon account. These ladies are pretty, smart and talented. Full package.

I'm sure their preexisting popularity and social media presence gave them a lot of negotiating power to get a lot of what they wanted. I believe I read that they also have copyright control over their preexisting catalogue.

Trivia: when they were recording it, Pau sings "non-believers start running". Someone first noted that it sounded like Numberly Garfs and soon nobody could unhear it. I think Pau even tried rerecording it but it sounded the same. So numberly garfs became a big inside joke and tag for the song.

A few more suggestions.... They have been releasing their Pepsi Center CDMX concert song by song with the full concert as the last release. Watch every single one, there are no filler songs. Specifically check out Dust to Dust/Dull Knives and if you really want to see something different from them, check out Black Holes, Breathe and When I'm Alone from the same show. You really can't go wrong. Ale, the bassist and the youngest is 19, Pau, the drummer is 22 and Dany the guitarist is 24. The show was their 10th anniversary show in October of 2023. Do the math on how old they were when they started... I believe Ale was 9 when the covered Enter Sandman on KZbin and Kirk Hammett made them go viral.

No such thing as The Warning overkill bro. Loving tracking your journey. Loving that you are watching how The Warning worked through theirs. You should check out their 6-part series (5 minutes per episode) about their signing with Lava records, going from independent to partnering with Lava (United/Warner). They got an unprecedented level of control over their music after 7 months of negotiation. These girls don't concede anything - not to mention the first south-of-the-border rock band to sign with a major US label. They are nasty, in the best possible way as far as negotiating the industry and maintaining control, and that's also a tribute to their manager Rudy. You should reach out... why not?
@chasingbirds307321 күн бұрын
I've listened to their whole catalog and this might be my favorite. It's especially good as the live version because they extend the bridge and interact with the crowd. Also, the lyrics of this song hit home a little harder today in light of the election results in the US yesterday.

"Disciple" is all about social media and how people get manipulated by disinformation without even realizing it. [Dany, the guitarist, sings from the perspective of those spreading hate and ignorance for power and money.] She talks about how people avoid facing their own flaws and welcome the chaos that’s created. Then [Pau, the drummer, plays the "disciple"], representing those falling for it, blindly following what they’re told. The chorus is cool because Dany sings about fighting the system, trying to wake people up, but Pau's part reinforces staying trapped in ignorance-like a tug-of-war between rebellion and control. By the end, the "disciple" is totally brainwashed, swimming in hate, and still following the system. It’s a warning that if people don’t wake up, they’ll stay stuck in this loop of ignorance.

You will never get accused of too much Warning! You calling this a favourite is not out of place at all, the band themselves had this in 4th when asked for their 'top 5 Warning songs'. It's also a major fan favourite so much so that when Ale steps to the stage center early in the set people will know immediately it's Disciple and she's going to rip that bass off. This is also an excellent song for reactors to check out live (Pepsi or Teatro, or really any fan cam) because it has so much Warning in it: Awesome heavy bassline, Pau killing it on the drums (her fill in the middle is soooo satisfying in person), and Dany and Pau trading off the lead several times in the song. The bridge is also well written as it works perfectly for them to extend and allow Dany to do some crowdwork depending on the show. And somehow Dany notes in this song are better in person than the album. Love hearing your take on the structure of the song, I don't have much in the way of musical knowledge so having someone that can pick out specific reasons why something is cool and then explain them in an understandable way is very cool.
