I recommend “Who’s afraid of little old me?” And “I can do it with a broken heart”

Just some background on Taylor but not giving away anything that her fans didn’t already know. She dated Joe Alwyn for 6 years and then they broke up. She then had a very short fling with Matty Healy from the band The 1975. Matty and Taylor had been friends back in 2014 (and maybe secretly dated?) before she started dating Joe in 2014. She called him up and started seeing him again after her and Joe broke up. Again, this is all speculation on this song that it’s about Matty and nobody really knows it except for Taylor but this is how most of fans are interpreting this song.

I hate labels on bands. They make music for enjoyment. That is all that matters. And you are correct with their performances. They, along with Queen and Scorpions, are better live than their recordings

I saw someone describe the whole "your wife waters flowers I want to kill her" "my husband is cheating I want to kill him" as saying that she is still in love with the person and is jealous because they seem to be in a happy healthy relationship all while her relationship is crumbling.

That's exactly what she is predicting may happen.

The fabrics that are being carried on stage are supposed to be a specific type of clam/scallop called Swiftopecten swiftii found in Western North America, Alaska and Japan. They are actual purple and pink. The fabric shells worn on stage are intentional, like everything TS does 😂

Okay.. so you are very spot on. I think to get the proper story , this should be a great order - So long London My boy only breaks his favourite toys Guilty as sin ? Loml Fresh out the slammer I can fix him, no really I can Florida!!!!! Down bad The smallest man who ever lived Chloe or Sam or Sophie or Marcus The black dog The bolter The prophesy The manuscript I think this gives a very nice understanding and flow to the “fatalistic” story line of this album. I would suggest reading the poem “in summation” it was in every physical copy at the end . You should find it online . Subscribed, looking forward to more reactions.

Now I need to go back and see if you reacted to her live rock version of We Are Never Getting Back Together, performed way back during the 1989 Tour (I think??) in Australia. It's insane.

Can't wait for everything, really. I started typing out all the songs I want to see a reaction for and it's almost the whole album lol. The only song I really don't like is So High School, but that's just me... it's not my vibe and it's always a skip now (I did give it a few chances and it's really not my jam).

It ABSOLUTELY is an art piece, versus a traditional radio and chart focus album. For the story telling/truth telling, I would love to see you react to The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived. Arguably the best bridge/outro she's ever written. And for some fun, light-heartedness, I'd recommend So High School. If you're anywhere in or near your 30s, it will give you big nostalgia, early 00s pop-rock feel.

You’re exactly right! This album is very fatalistic. Not just the lyrics but also the way she sings it, the pain or playfulness in her voice and the instrumentals paint the most gorgeous picture of her prolific songwriting. Thanks for doing this! Keep shining my guy✨🫶🏻

I wanted to add some information and observations, but there might be some spoilers of the other album tracks. So if you want to listen to the album first, do not read the following: Disclaimer: This is my own interpretation and what I picked up on. The theme of the "tortured poets" is quite unserious, self-aware, and hyperbolic, and it is pretty much showcased and explained in the title track: "You're not Dylan Thomas and I'm not Patti Smith. This ain't the Chelsea Hotel. We're two modern idiots." (Dylan Thomas was a Welsh writer of the 20th century, Patti Smith is a singer-songwriter and poet, and the Chelsea Hotel has been renowned for housing a lot of writers, musicians, and other artists.). Creating a fictional department for the "tortured poets" is her way of visualising how she, the industry, and the public perceive her and other artists, all being part of this "department" which makes their role as artists feel very bureaucratic and consumeristic (especially when they are riddled by heartbreaks, mental health issues, and such). If you watch the teaser from before TTPD was released, she shows a university, police, or legal department (despite the fact that some people say it's a psychiatric ward - that's definitely the case in "Fortnight", but not in that teaser. Don't get me wrong, she also alludes about "feeling/being insane" both in songs and in the epilogue.). In fact, not to spoil too much about the album, she does make some references to this whole theme by mentioning death and murder (unseriously.. hopefully) multiple times, and to the justice and legal systems. This album not only is about her romantic life struggles, but also about fame and all the attention she gets from the public who are always hungry for gossip. However, she also alludes to the actual "tortured poets" of the Romantic period. But she defies your expectations by being brutally honest, very self-aware, and humorous. She's not a tortured poet nor she'd like to live in that era. On the other hand, there is a magical, mystical, and fatalistic aspect of the album (perhaps mostly in the second half) where she relies on sorceresses and psychics to undo what cannot be avoided (and that perhaps is the most Romantic she gets in this album). She believes some things are just meant to happen and end, and she often shows her insecurity about it.

This song is reflecting on a 2 week rebound she had after getting out of a 6 year relationship. It was way more intense and deep than anyone was aware of. This song in particular is her future self looking back on it. Its so good.

You need to do the entire album because as you say there are plenty Easter eggs that you don’t really get given your interest in her life relationships. There are parts of her history that if you did know the lore would help you understand the album fully but you don’t necessarily need to know all of it, some of the songs are quite telling some are not. Obviously Swifties know exactly who every song is about, non Swifties might know some but definitely not all. I won’t spoil it by telling you, but you will probably recall certain headlines that blighted Taylor when they were actually happening. Taylor has said publicly, this is an album “she needed to write”, if she wants to move on and empty her head of all the drama of the past. That’s exactly what she has done with this album, it’s therapy for her and no doubt many will relate. It’s not all doom and gloom though, there is some fantasy or comedy although it is a bit dark, Guilty As Sin and Thank You Aimee are two. I’m looking forward to seeing you stroll through the album❣️

Yeah, this isn’t a album written for radio, it’s not a album written hoping to win awards. This is art! Just a tip, don’t be to quick to judge. This is a different type of album and it sometimes takes some listenings before it hits. That’s why so many reviewers have published statements that they change their minds.
