This was a special and unique performance with the addition of strings. Metallica asked The Warning to cover "Enter Sandman" in collaboration with Canadian pop singer Alessia Cara for *The Metallica Blacklist* album, released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of *The Black Album* in 2021. According to Lars Ulrich, they told all the bands involved, "Pick a song. Do what you want with it. If you want to play it backwards or turn it on its head, we respect and appreciate it." The Warning and Alessia composed and recorded their version in just 10 days over Zoom. The official music video features Alessia as a projection since she couldn’t travel to Mexico due to COVID, but her "oh-oh-oh-oh" vocals are still included on the backing track during live performances. They performed the song live with Alessia once as a special one-time event. Another great performance of their version, without the string section, was at Teatro Metropolitan in 2022.

Like yourself,I've got over 40 + years of playing, and being in,and out of the music industry so base my comments on what I've seen, heard and compare. It's not correct to say, many bassists can't play,as it's simply untrue. This is the 4th version of this song from them, and my favorite because of the all female 10pc string section added. (Teatro Metro show a year prior, has better vocals if you can believe it). Ale is the youngest at 18 here (Brunette) is on Bass / piano / Harmony. Dany is the oldest at 23 here (Blond) is on guitar / piano / Harmony and sings 80% of all leads. Paulina the middle child is 21 here (Redhead) is on Drums /piano/leads & harmony. Their amazing Harmonies and powerful co singing leads with Pau & Dany are the 4th member of the group. It's one way they get that powerful WALL of sound that hits you in the feels. Current ages are 19-22-24, but all about to have birthdays in the next few months. Try "Z" or "UGH" from the Teatro Metropolitan concert! ⚡

Their kid version of this song is really enjoyable. But, I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this version came along. A lullaby where Alessia very sweetly puts you to bed, then Dany rouses the troops, shares a little prayer, the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the Sandman tale told as a haunting, dark lullaby. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. The strings add so much color to this performance. I love this one.

We all enjoy these songs. Their original cover in "The Warning Cave" caught Metallica's attention. This version was originally a re-imagined cover done with Alessia Cara for Metallica's Blacklist album. Search up the music video for their full performance with Ms. Cara. What next? How about "Narcisista"? There are several live versions out there, including one at the Pepsi Center, but I think their 2022 performance at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX will be most fun for you to watch. You'll see why if you do watch it. It's sung in Spanish and is a response to the people who called them cultural traitor for writing and singing in English, didn't think they should be doing rock music because they were girls, and so on. Cheers.

So much to unpack in this video. A few interesting facts: Recorded backing vocals are Alessia Cara, Canadian singer, whom they recorded this remake of Enter Sandman with, at the request of Metallica, to include on their Blacklist album, 30th anniversary of the release of their Black album. They did it during the pandemic, with them in Mexico, Allesia in Canada, in 10 days….. This is also roughly 10 years after The Warnings cover of Enter Sandman went viral, to which Metallicas Kirk Hammett sad the “the drummer kicked maximum ass!”. The white Gibson Explorer that Dany is playing was gifted to her, in the middle of a concert, by Lzzy Hale. Early in Lzzy’s career, she broke strings on her guitar mid-concert and didn’t have a replacement and the guitarist for the band they were backing up gifted her a guitar, on the understanding that she would someday do the same for another young up and coming guitarist.

*Enter Sandman* (reimagined) DPA/TW and Alessia Cara certainly understood the assignment! Alessia Cara is a Grammy winning Canadian Pop and R&B singer... they had 10 days to rip this rendition of *Enter Sandman* from the ether and make it a darker, more eerie, and a more haunting lullaby than the original metal version... this was done because they, and many other artists from numerous genres, were invited by Metallica to take one of the songs from the original "Black" album, keep the lyrics and change it up how ever you like... play it backwards, upside down, whatever... this was all for the 30th anniversary of the "Black" album... all the submissions from 50someodd artists were put on the 2021 "The Metallica Blacklist" album... the proceeds from the album sales are split 50/50 with half going to Metallica's "All Within My Hands Foundation" and the other half being donated to a charity of the participating artists' choice... in the OMV, Dany (guitar) and Alessia share the lead vocals until they are in the three doorways when Dany takes over and Alessia does more of the background oooohs and aaaahs... the version they play in concert has Dany doing the vocals with a backing track of Alessia's ohhhs and ahhhs... of course Ale (bass) and Pau (drums) join in with their angelic harmonies in both... this is a fantastic reimagining of the iconic original... this 60+ year old rocker loves both versions of *Enter Sandman* but this one by TW and Alessia gets more airtime these days 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA

While Dany typically sings lead, Ale's the one who starts singing "Hush little baby.." Dany is harmonizing at first, then takes over lead. Ale is a Contralto with a gorgeous head-voice, distinct from Dany's Alto voice; it's what you are hearing. These 3 woman toss vocals around like a ball; their gorgeous 3 part harmonies are so mesmerizing you can miss who is singing what. Ale's the definition of cool; and not just cool, Ale's like the deep cool sea. Ale makes difficult things seem so easy one can miss she's a world-class Jazz Bassist playing Rock. It's a primary reason why these 3 can sound like 5. In many songs Ale is the primary person playing the Bass-line and the Melody-line and then just throws in a Bass solo. That's from Jazz-Fusion mastery, not Rock.

You'll realize that the studio version sounds a bit different than the live version. Aside from the fact that this live performance included the string section in the composition and the studio version does not, there is also the fact that the The Warning collaborated with Alessia Cara, where Alessia wrote the harmonies and sings the opening of the song and supplies the "oh oh ohs", still used in the live version as a backing track. Alessia only once appeared on stage with The Warning to perform this song live and that was in Los Angles in 2022. The Warning play it live now with her backing track as I mentioned, and the song plays out much heavier and goes harder by far.
