Any rocker with a pulse should love that song. That's the kind of thing we strived for in our garage bands, and, since that song was from 2018, that means that these three kids 18,16,13 surpassed anything I ever did. I'm guessing that they'll own the rock world before Dany's the ripe old age of thirty. Sigh...

*Metropolitan Fun Facts:* Usually Dany starts playing the first note of *Dull Knives.* The crowd cheers. Then she'll point at a section. Plays the same note. They cheer. Then does that a few more times with different sections. Then the band starts up. At this show (was cut from the official video but not on the fan cam videos), Dany started to play the note. Then stopped. Called for her guitar tech. He took the guitar in the back. After about 3 to 4 minutes. Guitar tech fixed the problem. The band jumped right into Dull Kniives. It used to be. If there was no technical difficulty at a Waarning concert. You were lucky. Mostly every show there was some type of a technical difficulty that would happen. Today, they are a well oiled machine. Kinda miss those fun days.

I enjoyed your comments and explanations of the things she says that any of us who don’t play don’t understand. It’s cool that you are an old rocker and I can see you living vicariously through these young ladies. I have no doubt she would love sitting down and talking guitar with you and jamming a little. Because of how they were raised, they have nothing but respect for those that rocked before them.

She didn't go into that particular detail in this video, but in previous rig videos she's done, Dany has said that she likes to have a very slight delay of about 10ms between the right and left channels going out to the PAs to help fill out her sound. She also usually puts slightly different effects on them to go even further to help create that huge sound that they have. Dany is a total guitar and tech nerd (and I mean that in the best way possible) and she loves to do those things and puts a great deal of time and effort into her sound. Also, the picks she uses, those are also (or at least something really similar) the picks Ale uses. Ale has complained before that Dany would come in and steal all her picks from her because she kept losing them 😂

I'm really enjoying your content. Reactor after reactor are being turned on to The Warning, but some, that'd be you, stand out, for their knowledge, presentation, and general care about what they are doing. The Warning is my favorite band of all time, and I anxiously await the day they become a household name. A friend in TWA, If I could be so bold as to call him that, dubbed "Dull Knives", "The Mona Lisa of rock songs". I agree. It's got what a heavy rock song should have. Some would argue a solo is needed, but not all songs call for that.

Blue PRS is not new, she has been playing it for over a year. She has at least 4 PRS's that i know about Red, Blue, Black, she has used all of them on stage for over a year, the 4th is a honey/brow that she keeps at home and has never used on the road. She also has used a few others on Music videos such as a yellow one on Evolve, not sure if she kept those or were just loaners for the video. All the PRS she has are similar so she is not going to do rig rundowns on the diff colours, one will do.. last count a few years ago she had 10-15 guitars at home

You are both total guitar nerds!! I love it! 🤘😁🤘 A comment I read somewhere (presumably here in KZbin) put it quite well: I'm paraphrasing here, but the essence was "Most bands try to replicate their live sound so it is like their recorded sound. _The Warning_ does exactly the opposite." I think that's a perfect description of how this band operates, and is part of "the secret to their success". They are *genuine* , whether it is live or in the studio. That's not nearly as common as one might imagine.

Point to note about Teatro is that The Warning mixed songs from their earlier albums while promoting their latest one, Error. Dull Knives is the 8th song from their concept album Queen of the Murder Scene, which is their 2nd LP, published in 2018 when they were 18, 16 & 13!!! Unthinkable that a band has the guts to publish a concept album in their 2nd venture. Queen of the Murder Scene is about unrequited love of a young woman who goes through various emotional phases on the verge of lunacy. IMO the dark metaphorical poetry penned by Pau is 2nd only to Roger Waters musing over death, lunacy & despair in The Dark Side of the Moon some 50 years back from now. In Dull Knives the protagonist considers suicide when she realizes that she is losing control of everything. That's why Dany begins with "The rush that's in my veins, I can't control it Tell me why This voice that's in my head is getting stronger Tell me how The aching in my bones is taking over Tell me why My blood ain't spilling red I'm freaking out!" We know that sharp knives cut better. Why dull? Because the poet, in this case Pau, wants it to be a messy affair. A sharp knife will cut clean but not a blunt one. Next comes the use of the word "dull". In English "blunt" is the adjective used to describe a knife that is not sharp. But Pau used dull to make us think & relate to bluntness of a knife. Intellectualism at its best!!! And then she goes on to write - "I am plucking roses but keeping the thorns". We have come across numerous references to thorns in a bunch of roses in literature. But seldom had any poet said that she preferred to keep the thorns as a prickly reminder of her misery & desperation. How dark is that poetry!!! How dark is Pau's mindspace!!!

I've read that people who cut themselves prefer dull knives because they are more painful. It's a dark, sad world of desperation.

The Kemper is a profiler. You actually make a profile (capture) of an amp(s) and cabinet. It's like having the actual amp sounds in the board. She then sends that out to front of house. The Line 6 comes with amps, cabinets, mics and effect simulations. Dany use to use a Line 6 Helix.

I completely second the idea of watching Dany’s gear rundown video when she was using the Helix Line 6 as well. Dany gets much more in-depth on how she sets up the signal chain for each part of a particular song? What exactly is the difference between a Helix Line 6 and the Kemper profiler in layman’s terms? There’s still a lot of TW fans that think Pau “programs”Dany’s equipment from her laptop for each song. Pau also has a masterclass on KZbin with English subtitles that explains a bit about the Ableton software and she even lets the audience hear the click track and everything else she hears in her InEarz.

Enjoyed that reaction to Dull Knives! Especially liked your perspective as a guitarist in your own power trio. Dany is such a guitar nerd. She knows the sound she wants and she absolutely gets it from her gear and technique. As soon as she cranks that volume knob to begin songs in live shows, that PRS produces a wall of sound that's killer. As far as the string gauges, I always played lighter strings - either 9 or 9.5 to 42 usually. When I heard Dany used 10 to 46 Daddario NYXL, I actually tried them myself. They seemed to have a thicker sound, but now I'm convinced it was just psychological on my part. I watched a video from Rick Beato's channel where he compared string gauges in his studio using sound meters and concluded that thicker strings don't really sound thicker. :) I only kept them on my guitar for a few months and went back to 9 gauge because the 10 gauge are so much harder for me to play and bend. Thanks for sharing the rig rundown!
@RockCandy-ix3nn
@RockCandy-ix3nn 9 ай бұрын
I saw the same video. I used 10 gauge when in the Trio's so I could "Hammer" the strings. I have more reluctance to do that on a lighter gauge. lol Hence, many of us believe the heavier gauge "lends itself" to a "Thicker" sound. Make sense?

IMO a power trio is to rock what a piano trio or string quartet is to chamber music -- the most basic form, where there's no room for any kind of weak link. A lot of people, including their father, complained that this song is too short. So they tried adding some things, decided that all of them made the song worse, and announced that if people want it to be longer than they should play it on repeat, which legions of The Warning Army have taken to heart. I've seen (available to patreons) what happened when somebody tried to foist more elements onto the song. It made it sound like a formulaic hard rock song, which in my view trivialized the song within the storyline of the album. They said no. Another famous performance of this song, in The Warning Cave, is also worthy of watching even though you won't have any interest in reviewing it. They performed it for (De)Tour, a virtual concert to raise money for struggling venues during the pandemic (it was repeated at the show by popular demand, the only song to be replayed). When Lzzy Hale saw it, she immediately said that she wanted to take them on tour, which took about 18 months to arrange, but they did. For their part, DPA are huge fans of Halestorm and were a bit blown away. For her part, Lzzy finds them to be inspiring, to the point where she presented Dany with a brand new guitar, on stage (there are plenty of videos of that).

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that Dany meant to say that she uses a 3mm thick BASS pick, not a jazz one. Dany used to have a Line 6 Helix LT and has a video where she explains how she setup all the profiles, if you would be interested to react to it. She just switched to the Kemper and added the studio profile from their latest album. The Warning: Dany's Line 6 Helix LT pedalboard kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5Xdi3uCaJeSf7s

funny how we all ae with our sting choices i have to have 9's tried going up quite a few times but always hated it went right back down to 9,s every time i play mostly blues and since i do not have Stevie Rays ridiculously strong fingers to bend with 9.s seem to be my magic set

Yes, I got tired of the heavier sets pretty early on. Once I started playing more lead fills it just got frustrating. I read somewhere that Gibbons uses 7's on occasion so I thought it safe to drop to 9's. lol

@@RockCandy-ix3nn yes he does use 7"s i saw a rig run down with him Jimi Page used mostly 8"s i have tried those as well, too easy to bend lol i have a pretty hard pick attack no matter how much i try to lighten up settled on 9's to old to change my ways now

Me too! I played acoustic for 10 years before I picked up an electric so my attack is pretty aggressive as well, I fully understand how you feel! lol@@ericdarlington2332

Awesome reaction. Dumb question for you: Do they make volume knobs with a detent in them, so you’d have to put more pressure into it to move it to the next click? (might help with not turning down the volume with your pinky, if they have them)

Not a dumb question at all. There might be something like that available but in truth most guitarists are constantly playing with the volume knob at one point or another so it might not be something in big demand. Certainly not when I played years ago. Many knobs have a push/pull feature that puts the pickup it's controlling "out of phase" for a different sound. But I suppose that feature could be used instead to "lock" the volume knob in place. Maybe someone could invent that? lol. I know more than a few guitarists who experience what I do with Fender placement of the knobs.

@@RockCandy-ix3nn LOL - so.. I got interested, because it seemed like something that a lot of people would experience, yet it's still a problem. So, I did a KZbin search. Apparently, a decent trick is to get rubber washers from the hardware store, remove the knob, put a washer underneath it and re-install the knob. The pressure from the compressed washer keeps the knob from spinning, when you hit it with your fingers. Who knows - maybe you can play without a problem, now :-) (Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3bch5-kqdiGfc0)

Thank you! My son plays Fender and is a little mystified that I don't. Hmmm. Maybe problem solved? lol@@Scott_Diverscott
