I honestly believe this is their best song. It's soaring. It's majestic. It's beautiful. And the message is deep.

This video is available with English lyrics on screen. I’m starting to feel as you do. I was deeply moved by the song and I went and prayed (I chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo) with appreciation for my life and The Warning. The melody is so beautiful that I want to get a keyboard instrument and figure out the structure. I’m also motivated to learn Mexican Spanish and stop relying on subtitles. All three sisters work on the songwriting, however, I’m feeling Pau strongly in this song. Viva The Warning!

This video was shot in 2021 in the Icamole Desert north of their home city Monterrey, Mexico. When they returned home they were covered in sand and dust - they hadn’t considered that it might be windy.

Martirio is from their Error album, which includes a number of songs whose lyrics are critical of modern society. In this case, their message is directed to self-made martyrs - those who constantly bemoan their lot in life and seek sympathy. The message is both critical and hopeful.

The MV was not easy for them to make. They were there on location from early morning to late in the evening. It was 45 C in the desert that day (113 F), the wind was blowing gritting dust unto their clothes and on their equipment. The wind also shredded the tent that had erected to try to protect them fromt he wind, and the clothe kept trying to attack them, especially Pau. Oh, and there were wasps they had to dodge throughout the day. Some portions of the performance part of the video were shot at a different tempo to allow them to play with the slow motion effect in the final cut.

I do not speak Spanish but this is one of my favorite songs! To me it feels like an Anthem. The video is great but live is just awesome. These ladies are just so good! Thanks for the reaction.
@oldmanyeni166311 ай бұрын
That has been their show closer when they are in the Spanish-speaking part of the world. Such a stadium anthem. This gang vocals at the end are sung, loudly, by everyone in the building. Sends shivers down my spine remembering being in the crowd of 8000 in October in Mexico City seeing that live. I think most of us would love to see your thoughts on the lyrics. They are very thoughtful in their writing and often there could be more than one interpretation of the text. I think this aspect of their writing is what interests many of the loyal followers.

They were using it as their show closer (as opposed to encore) for a lot of shows in the US, too.

If you want to do a deep dive on lyrics, the easy answer is do the "Queen of the Murder Scene" album since it is a concept album. There is also plenty of live footage for the songs from the album.

I've always said this was at the top of the list of my favorite Warning songs. Don't know Spanish at all. I do understand music and this song is friggin excellent. Very smart filming also , sped-up to slow down .. to stay in sync with the slow motion shots. Their on time and in slow motion at the same time.. very cool.. when the harmonies kick in near the end I get a little teary eyed every time. I know it's gets the girls also. I've seen it when they played it live, Pau & Dany get emotional... TWA🤟🎶☮️

Great reaction! This is my favorite The Warning song, barely edging out "When I'm Alone". It usually takes me about three times watching a The Warning video before I can try and interpret the meaning, first comes listening to the great music, then the amazing visuals and finally really listening to the lyrics.
@mjc138911 ай бұрын
TW usually play their 2 Spanish language songs and then Evolve as the closer as the last 3 songs of the show. In Teatro, keep in mind that they are at extremely high altitude and the they tend to get slightly emotional when a Spanish speaking crowd is singing every word to them at the top of their lungs which to me shows the passion of both the band and the crowd. Dany is supposedly hitting a D5 and a E5 in Martirio and man is it beautiful. She has a slight voice crack at the end in that performance but IMO it adds to the emotion of the song and she normally nails it live. You may notice in the OMV that the cloth that is shredded behind Pau is tied up. Apparently it was hitting Pau and disrupted the filming so they came up with a quick solution. Sometimes “happy accidents” work out though because the cinematic effect is dramatic as you noted.
@jimlaheta886411 ай бұрын
I'm not sure why, but I think Dany's voice just sounds extra incredible in Martirio. And, like many of The Warning's songs it would be great on a movie soundtrack.

Part of what is so fascinating about The Warning is how they've done so much already at such a relatively early age, and they have so much ahead of them still. "Keep Me Fed" is going to be their biggest yet when it arrives in a few more weeks. I'm intensely looking forward to hearing the entire record. It's a level of anticipation for an album release that I haven't felt in a very long time, and these young women deserve it! They are brilliant and only getting stronger!

This is a true rock anthem, and proof that music is a universal language. At their shows everyone sings along, even if they don't speak Spanish, they know the words to this song. I have to admit that even though I don't speak Spanish, this song moved me to tears the first time I heard it, and it is one of my favorite The Warning songs. Thank you for another great reaction. It is a joy to watch new fans go down The Warning rabbit hole, and so far, every reactor that I have seen has been so impressed by them that they were anxious to hear more.

in the *Martirio" OMV, the covering over the building frame was not supposed to be shredded but the winds had other ideas so DPA/TW and the team decided not to fight it... it makes for a nice atmosphere and works pretty well for the story they are telling in this MV... this is not the first time they've had to deal with the winds, either... one or two of their other MVs that were shot outside were also on windy days... their Foo Fighters cover of *The Pretender* comes to mind... there were also comments about how the blowing sand stung and caused them to feel like they had a sunburn... they did a great and professional job, that's for sure 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA

It's just the desert southwest (or desert northeast, if you are in Mexico - which is where Monterrey is located. Same basic environment/desert system - ecosystems for some odd reason don't seem to respect national boundaries.😋 )... it's always windy here, especially at the higher altitudes. It's a rare day where there _isn't_ pretty sturdy wind gusts at least, if not "all day long" howling winds. When you have to coordinate a shoot with several people who may not be available a day or two later, you learn to live with the weather "as is".

The exquisiteness and melodic beauty of this song far exceeds the importance of the lyrics, although it is still profound and important, which is why the language takes a backseat, IMHO. The creative talent of the 3 sisters competes with the virtuosity they possess as players of their instruments and their vocal prowess. "Martirio" is the clear example of this. I will look forward to both of their reactions to the "live." Thanks and greetings from México!! 🇲🇽 🤘😁✌️

The "Martirio" MV gives me chills EVERY time that I watch it!!! For lyrical breakdowns for The Warning, I would suggest "When I'm Alone" (Teatro Metropolitan version, or you could use the TedEX 2017 version. Or, if you want one with Pau singing lead, do the official lyric video of "23" from The Warning's YT channel. It puts the lyrics up with the studio released track which would make lyric analysis easier. I would also make that a 2fer by following up with the live performance from Teatro Met. Great reaction, BTW! Keep up the good work! Oops! Forgot you did the live for "23" already.

An additional idea to add on to your lyric breakdown video idea: The Warning's second Album is a concept album, Queen of the Murder Scene. Every song contributes to the story of unrequited love, obsession, murder, and madness. It would be a great series of videos if you were to go through each song in the album and break down the lyrics to see if you can follow the story, and then look up the "official" meanings of the songs. The Warning made a series of videos, Vlogs 23, 25, and 26 on their KZbin channel, where they explain the story of the album. It was released in chapters, hence the individual videos explaining each song's meaning and a bit of background on how they wrote them. That album is great, written when they were in their teens, it really is a great example of their song writing journey. They were that good as teens and they are even better now.

Upon further examination, you will notice a cool slow motion visual effect in this video, where they are still playing at the correct speed because during the filming of that part, they played the song in double time. Sidenote: You may find yourself asking if there's anything that The Warning can't do.

They have really good videos, and it almost sucks that they are so good live because people don't watch them as much and they put so much into them. If you notice the slow motion parts in this one you can see that they are all still in time with the music and each other, meaning they played parts at different tempos to sync with it. If you don't think about it you don't realize. I recommend the Enter Sandman video with Alissa Cara and there first video XXI Century Blood. They have official lyric videos for a lot of there songs on there channel as well. It's awesome every song we get 2 or 3 official releases for.

Lyric breakdowns would be great. There's a lot to unpack in The Warning lyrics. For one like this in a language you (and I) are not fluent in, you could run the OMV without lyrics first to get a sense of the production, then again with lyrics when you're not so distracted by the production. And for songs with English lyrics, your idea is great, watch first for effect, then go back and analyze both music and lyrics, with pauses and backups as needed. That would work for me, at least.

I understand there may have been some "bribery" involved, but the translated lyrics were distracting nevertheless. This reaction nicely illustrates that the lyrics, while of some interest, are not vital to the enjoyment of the song -- especially on the first listening -- and are ultimately ignorable. I just don't get some people's utter preoccupation with the lyrics. It's probably just me.
