This was 2017. So, Pau was around 15 years old or so. By the way, this was Faith's own composition. She likes to mix electronic trap elements with live drumming. Pau had only limited time to learn her part. Considering that, it's pretty impressive.

IIRC, due to weird circumstances, Pau learned her part while on the plane flying over to be there... what she needed hadn't arrived until they were headed to the airport or something like that...

Glad you got to this!! The reason Pau is less stringent is because, at this point in her career, her drum kits were falling apart on stage because she pounded them so mercilessly. She can react on the fly and has done so many times. Her drum tech, Carlos, spends time during the first song of every concert behind Dany's onstage speaker, looking for loose cymbals or stands on Pau's kit. One of the reasons why he was so close when Ale fell on stage. Carlos was moving toward her before she even hit the ground.

What you may not know is that Faith wrote this piece and asked Pau to do it just a couple days before. Faith is a very technical drummer and very good. Pau had thought about entering the Hit Like A Girl contest in 2018 but she was too nervous. The Hit Like A Girl organizers had been so impressed with Pau that they asked her to be a judge and the face of the 2018 contest. That was how highly thought of she was even at 16 years old. Pau was 16 in that video, its amazing to see the contrast between both drumming styles, I think that Pau just was there to have fun and she didnt feel like she needed to prove anything she just did what she loves the most.

Some context here, Pau was invited as a judge for the under 18 girls for this competition when she was 17 herself. So she is not playing on her drum set or regular setup, probably did not have much time to learn and rehearse on this kit. Insane to me that Pau is still not signed with DW to this day.

They really wanted Pau to play. Since she did not compete, they came up with this little exhibition. Note, this was not Pau's drum kit. Faith I think now plays for the rock band "Plush".

That´s what makes it so great. With Paulina you can watch what she´s playing and experience it on multiple levels. I my self hate looking at drummers who look like they are a robot executing it´s program. She´s a one woman show when she plays. Thank you for reacting.

I think this were before de visit of Bugs. Pau's style at that time was very flamboyant. Since then she has decreased the exuberance and unnecessary movements, but has increased the theatricality. Crimson Apple is a band of 4 sisters from Hawaii active since 2012, and who moved to LA in 2017 and have recorded some albums, EPs and videos (the last one in 2021), but their style of pop rock has not managed to stand out and they have not participated in many concerts after the pandemic.

I just want to make sure you know that there is a Paulina master class on KZbin. It is in Spanish but there are subtitles. It's pretty in depth about how she learned to play and sing at a young age. She also talks about how she and Ale stau in time with each other. There's a lot more but I can't remember right now. From watching you speak about drumming, I think you might really like it. This is a great analysis. It's been awhile since I've seen this but you brought back some impressions I had back when I first saw it. Pau is a rock drummer and she's being recognized for her talents. Faith has a jazz/jazz fusion feel. I haven't followed her but I probably should as those are some of my favorite genres.

As a drummer, you are absolutely right. Faith is VERY good as is Pau, but in completely different ways. I did check out Crimson Apple a few years ago when I first saw this video. They seem to be a 4 sister, pop band, and Faith's talent is very under the radar.

Aloha TR - yes, this was a rehearsed presentation to showcase these two gifted drummers! Crimson Apple got it's start in my home State of Hawaii, but are now based in California. They were more of a pop band than the heavy rock sound of The Warning. I wonder if they have kept in contact over the years?

@@genboyer no not at all,but I dont think it's on the top of their agenda,if they get nominated,for whatever,the chance of them winning is pretty high I'd say. Again,though,look st who's winning Grammys - I haven't heard of a good portion of them,and those that I've heard of I don't particularly care for anyway. I heard recently that for the correct money,several artists have won - which does not surprise me one bit,but if The Warning ever do win - it would be because of their talent,there's no shortcuts with these ladies

I don’t disagree on Pau having more feeling. However, watch Pau’s run down of her gear. She is very specific on each piece of equipment, why or why she doesn’t use certain things and where it fits with the band as a whole. Obviously both of the ladies extremely talented. I'm totally with you on this, and I don't see how anyone could knock you --- Pau is a very passionate and extroverted which shows in her play often. I found this drum duo video a year ago or so, and checked out Crimson Apple, thought they were pretty good.

@@johnager6226 After some more googling, turns out they're the same age, Pau born on Feb 5, 2002, Faith was born on May 11, 2002. Faith won HLAG in the under 18 category in 2017. This video was from the 2018 awards show where they both served as judges.
