Hello Nena…It’s true! Pau is very excited about directing this video. The Manager (Rudy) gave her a green light for that. Pau is very creative, so I think she will do a great job. BTW, I don’t know if you are familiar with Rudy, this guy is their manager, but he has become more than that, he is family now. He protects them, gives them advice and push them to be better everyday. He taught them how to use social media in a productive way to grow their fandom and promote their music. He is not the typical manager, he was in Hollywood before he met “The warning”. He didn’t know much about the music business, but when he saw the ladies playing years ago, something happen in his heart, he knew he had to help them. I think he deserves a video from you, maybe an analysis of his personality and relationship with the girls would be fantastic.

The depth and Darkness in a lot of The Warnings lyrics is such a wild contrast to the sparkling fun personalities the girls have. I feel that they really have the ability to get the emotion and vibe they are shooting for across without having to be ultra literal in the lyrics, absolute masters of their craft!

I believe that this is the clearest lyrics regarding the manipulative and obsessive relationship that exists between, on the one hand, social media-consumerism-political propaganda-the internet-artificial intelligence (and the social chaos that has been unleashed in the world), and on the other hand, we, the people, consumers, and addicts, from all over the world. That's my interpretation. It's the same theme (for me) of Sick, More, Hell You Call a Dream... (and even Disciple and Error), it fits with the title of the album: Keep Me Fed.

Hello Nena, wonderful analytical view of a song that as you work your way through I started applying a broader perspective to it. As you correctly point out before anything it always is a personal interpretation. As a sociologist and native Spanish speaker I also can’t help understanding this manipulative behavior to institutions and governments (each here fill out the blank). Something we should all be aware and protective specially the youth where indoctrination occurs fast and often lasting. Thanks again for your dedication and expert analysis, love from Mexico ❤️

Very interesting and I agree. Now I think there is another layer of analysis. Many of the lyrics in Keep me Fed are not written just to tell a story, but they insinuate that one can end up doing what is criticized (like Consume). The phrase "the power that you give me" I think has to do with how that abusive relationship is fed (in the emotional psychological sense, which is what the song is about). In other words, the relationship could have started well. But in the process something unequal in power and authority began to occur, with small things, until reaching a level of manipulation and asymmetry that was harmful. In other words, there was a cycle that allowed it to increase over time. The narrative of the song serves as a warning. The desire to manipulate in order to get something begins in childhood and does not abandon us. I think that the lyrics of The Warning seek to awaken our conscience that sometimes becomes numb or distracted in the society in which we live.

Great video as always, Nena. I'm pretty sure the term Gaslighting comes from the 1944 film, Gaslight. It starred Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman. In it, Charles was doing things to make Ingrid question her sanity. Looking forward to your next video.

I have never been in a relationship like this song alludes to. However, I have been in a relationship with someone who was healing from being in this type of relationship. The damage done is incomprehensible, and it takes time and patience to help someone recover from the emotional abuse. Imagine not being able to believe and trust that someone cares for you and has no ulterior motives.

@@psychologyofrock you’re probably going to think that I’m crazy but my rethink is based on clues in the video. A qui is used a lot, pointing to a key; the band at the wedding is Las Wawas - the pet name for The Warning by the South American fans also Wawa is the bands affectionate name for their old North American tour bus; Rudy as the Pastor at the wedding - also on Dust to Dust; time on the clock in the Police station 8:26 - 26/08 = release date of the new album; the chest we don’t see what’s in it - maybe the remaining songs of the album. So to me it could be a message rather than a satirical look at Mexican soaps and the Cartel; we shall see😁

I can see this song meaning two different things depending on how you look at it. If you listen with a Queen Of The Murder Scene view point it's about a toxic relationship that no one should ever be in, but if you listen with a Error or XXI Century Blood view point it can be about technology. Big technology companies always want people to buy new "Bigger and Better" products, and social media companies attract people to stay on their website as long as possible, even banks and government agencies push online only forms and documents. The push of technology leads to accounts being hacked, social media addiction, and cyber bullying. Even with these risks we always come back for more. That is because there's good things like finding new music, connecting with old friends and watching videos like this one. Basically the internet itself is a toxic relationship filled with some good but mostly bad things. I heard at one time ( I'm not sure of the truthfulness of this story though) that the term "gaslighting" came from an early 1900s play in wich a husband kept turning down the gas powered lamps in the house. When his wife would ask why the lights were dim he would say they weren't and there must be something wrong with her. What a horrible way to be. If anyone out there is with someone like that please get out of the relationship, you deserve better.

I recommended them to any diehard fan, we are all waiting for the Ale interview now. Pertinent to this conversation is a video clip if that interview where they talk about Pau directing "Que Mas Quieres". kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHPaeoiYrdqsrNk Unfortunately the video is in Spanish and while it was auto captioned in Spanish it missed some word, which only make this harder to understand when translated. I was wondering if you could do an analysis of 23 from their album error? Pau said it's a very personal song for her in a live show (i believe it was the one they did in montreal when ale couldn't be there so they did an acoustic set), so i think it was actually written about a specific person! And some of the lyrics lead me to believe it's either about an ex that has moved on, or unrequited love for a close friend (lines like the repeated "is it wrong?" in the chorus, "i guess i'll love you on my own" and "a work of art that's not for me at all") I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Hey Nena! I definitely agree with what you said about gaslighting but overall my interpretation of the lyrics seems to be very different from a lot of people cuz I think it has a political message. I think that it's about politicians offering the general public all kinds of "free" stuff and holding it over them until they are reelected. Due to the album title, the phrase "don't bite the hand that feeds" comes to mind. I also think it could be a commentary on the relationship between artists and the music industry, which is probably more likely lol.

A song like this or any well written song can fit into many situations, politicians, internet algorithms and the purpose behind them or a personal relationship all can gain a level of manipulative control. The Music Industry is in fact infamous for such tactics, I remember hearing how drugs and partying were pushed onto the Runaways and then the leverage put on them afterwards to feed the beast created. Sherry (Cherry?) I think it was spoke about this. While my understanding of the term is imperfect, addiction seems to be a way a person can even do it to themselves after a fashion.
