Pau initiates most of TW’s songs. She is very emotional and passionate. In an IG reel she told us that her favorite thing to do is cry. She likes to let her emotions out. She is lucky to have such a loving supportive family - otherwise she might not be as well put together in public.

Pau has always had a knack for writing lyrics that make you think she has experienced events that she has not, I think she just has a talent for interpreting what she see around her from the perspective of others, Black Holes is the perfect example of this as the story is about addiction but when she wrote it she was only 13 years old, She is empathic but able to compartmentalize to comunicate what is felt. .

"Escapism" is my most favorite song from the new album. In many moments it reminds me musicly some Alice Cooper songs from the 70s (like "Steven" for example). And of course, the fact that they lyrically deals with psychological issues is something that piqued my interest from the first moment. It's a shame that most people don't know The Warning or they have not realized how great they are.

Terrific video, Nena. Escapism is one of my favorite songs. In the line "draping mirrors again", I always took it literally that she's actually covering the mirror so she doesn't have to look at herself. And the heavy guitar after she sings "it's the hope that kills you" the second time sounds to me like someone spiraling out of control. Again, great video, Nena and maybe next time you can do Apologize. 😊👍♥️

The more I listen to this album, the more it feels like one huge cathartic scream. DPA have repeatedly said that it reflects the chaos of their touring life as they were writing it. Their previous albums delved deeply into themes from the world and from books that moved them. As they pivot here towards their own experiences, it seems clear that song-writing became a way to release the tension of being so public. As the photos you use in your videos show, DPA have chosen to live incredibly public lives, and that clearly comes at a cost. I guess I’m glad that the very reason that they are so public, gives them a way to release some of the pent-up emotions that come along with it.

Thanks again Nena for another great analysis video of our 3 favorite women in rock. The line "silence is to avoid" is the one that hit home the hardest for me. Just because you're trying to escape something doesn't mean quiet and escaping inwardly, I find my self trying to escape silence and thinking because it'll inevitably end up on something bad that I can't change. Which leads to increased depression. Anxiety feeds depression. Need to escape physically for anxiety reasons but fear to escape mentally, its a balancing act.

Great analysis! I know you are an ADHD coach, so the following could be interesting for you. You mentioned that Pau maybe knows something about psychology, I think you are right. Pau said in a long interview (Spanish) that she was diagnosed with ADHD. She has to take medicine for life and she often visits her psychologist because that. I have no idea how bad is ADHD, but perhaps she has gone through some dark places because that and she expressed her feelings with this marvelous song.

Wow! Pau and I have so much in common - we have the same personality type (ENFP) and I also have ADHD. Believe it or not, ADHD is also highly linked to creativity, which has perhaps has actually aided her in an artistic way, despite the struggles that come with having it. Someone had mentioned that she joked about it once, but I was curious if she had an actual diagnosis. Either way, she is an amazing person, and an incredibly expressive writer.

I, too, love Escapism - I have it #2 behind only Automatic Sun, it somehow pushed its way past HYCAD and Six Feet Deep. I think the lyric "it's the hope that kills you" is the best on the entire album.

To me Escapism seems like the culmination of titles of the other 9 songs. Reflecting on how they felt in them. All but two songs have deep emotional darkness . 6ft deep sounds dark from the title but is actually about overcoming long held emotions. Automatic Sun is basically a love song . Very interesting analysis of the song. Songs like this one, Black Holes and Breathe make me wonder what Pau has gone through in her life. You would think that coming from a family that helps and supports you in every way possible, that her life would be nothing sunshine and rainbows. But lyrics often suggest the opposite...a lot of pain in her young life. Even though Pau said that this was her Halloween song, I would imagine that a themed video might have more of a ¨Día de Muertos¨ (Day of the Dead) look and feel to it.

All dreamed up by the writers, none of which have ever had something like that sneek up on them in space.. Had a girlfriend who could just come up with totally believable stories from whole cloth. Took me years to really grasp how f$%ked up she was but God could she write. She, like Pau, could "feel" from others that she met or read about, change it around, and make you believe it. Wasn't just me - she had a trail of folks. I had a friend who had training warn me pretty quickly but like most guys my other head was doing my thinking for me. There is a fine line here of course. How do you use this power is the difference between creative and a second axis psych diagnosis.

Again, a nice analysis, I enjoyed your video! I's astonishing how they write profound lyrics about topics that they not necessarily have experienced by themselves (Black Holes about addiction is an early example from their 1st album). These three sisters surely don't escape reality, waste time or withdraw, they act and take chances, they are very active, not passive. But they are empathetic and can understand other people with other issues. That's why they care so much abut their fans. In one of their last shows a female fan collapsed (heat, dehydrated or sth like that), Dany instantly stopped Evolve and asked to make space to help the fan, she made sure everyone is o.k. before playing again. I get the sense of dichotomy with Escapism that TW give us with many of their songs. It's almost trying to justify pulling inwards to avoid the pain of reality, but at the same time the overall tenor of the song is a cry for help. Especially Pau's cry, and when Dany hits the same note with "I don't know what's real". The early reactions from many was kind of mehh, but i think it's grown on most of us, especially in their live performances. Your breakdowns are always fascinating....:)

Ey, amiga. Creo que definitivamente Paulina aborda comportamientos humanos en sus canciones que son tratados desde un análisis psicológico. The maturity and talent in their lyrics can be seen as far back as 2015 on their first EP, 'Escape the Mind'. They were only ages 10 through 15 when it was released, so they may have been even younger when they actually wrote the songs. Only 3 of the 5 songs are love songs, but none of those are the simple sappy 'girl loves boy' love songs you might expect from kids of that age. the other 2 are more philosophical (for lack of a better word) about struggles encountered when going through life. All 5 songs are, I think, mature for their age and show a real talent for writing songs beyond their years. If you haven't done so already, it would be interesting to make videos of these songs to talk about what you think of them. Their songs are usually started by Pau, and then finished as a group. I'm assuming that it was the same with these ones, so the lyrics may have been partly written by a child still in elementary school.

It's kind of funny - I spent many years in this "mode" as you described, and then one day just "popped". I said to myself, "To hell with this; I'm "sick and tired of being sick and tired".. and ever since that moment I have done pretty much the opposite of what this song describes. I dove head-first into the painful feelings, embraced them, and "swam" right through them. It's why their song "Marterio" has such an impact to me, because I *was* the person described in the song. I decided NOT to be... but it was my own decision. I don't know how many people can make that transition on their own, for sure. I suppose I was lucky I could, else I'd still be wallowing in that mire of self-depression and illusion to this day. I'm glad I was able to escape it on my own, but for those who can't... please seek help. Please...

I think draping the mirrors means that she's covering up the mirror so she doesn't have to see herself in it and therefore, doesn't have to deal with what she's going through. Like looking in the mirror or mirroring, not wanting to deal with it and that way she's not reminded if they're covered up.

What is really scary for me is that I live these lyrics and so many from this album. Escapism, Burnout, so many others along that vein and even from other albums. I can't seem to get to the hope and self confidence of Evolve and Survive. There is no snark in this comment. It sucks when the first time I heard Martirio, i took it as a personal insult..because it is so close to my reality. Yup, they have some deeply personal lyrics when you have to get past your initial visceral reaction to enjoy the song.

Another factor here is the general isolation they’ve experienced growing up and having to meet the strict standards expected of them, and having to devote so much time to music. This is basically what S!ck is about, sort of a longing for the kind of teen misbehavior that was never an option.

This is a Warning album that I *WILL NOT BE LOOKING FOR ANY HIDDEN MEANING* what so ever. *AND SHOULD YOU AS WELL.* Here's why. Not only Dany, Pau & Ale are all over the place explaining these songs, depending on the day & interviewer. *BUT FOR THE FACT THAT DANY, PAU & ALE* has stated themselves, multiple times. The label, going with Republic Records, wanted DPA to collaborate with outside writers for this album. We just don't know what the girls wanted to say. What the outsider writers had to say. And once Anton DeLost was hired to be the producer. What Republic told him to do. Since DeLost was originally hired just for a writer session. In which the label wanted a song written from each session. That's why I'm not reading too much into these songs. Neither should anyone else.

Hey Kevin - they have talked briefly about what inspired the songs and their writing process for each, but I still feel that there is more to uncover in them. Even though these songs are somewhat a collaboration, I feel like the "soul" of the girls are still very present. Just my opinion :)

Nah. DPA are - and always have been - smart songwriters. They are listed as the primary songwriters on each & every track on KMF. Delost said himself in interviews that he was shocked at how laser-focused DPA are when it comes to writing. So while they did collaborate a ton, the songs are still - to use one of Pau's phrases - their brain babies. In several instances, DPA started writing these songs while touring for ERROR or before (as in the case of Escapism).

Even if some ideas came from collaborators, the sisters are very assertive. They pushed back hard on some things David Bendeth (OBD of the biggest names in rock production) wanted, at a time they were brand new to the label and in a weaker bargaining position. If the album is more commercially focused I believe that’s their goal as much as it is the label’s.

Burnout live is very good and I like the studio version also. Dany skill playing Burnout live is amazing Singing over a sliding Lead Riff Live is not only excellent but rarely ever accomplished. Love The Warning...
