It's so freakin' cool and i'm so proud they want me to be part of their artists - and even cooler that they wanted to make one with my specs and design. Instead of just using LEDs, have a look at running optic fibre strands as well. That way you can have smaller light sources and your electrical wiring is a lot easier. Also, you can use RGB lighting down the optic fibre to create flickering effects vs sinister glows.

I 1000% agree on using fiber instead of just small LEDs. BUT That said, are we seriously saying that the Manta is STILL on fire a decade after it crashed? I mean, its possible. If Manta fires are like underground coal seam fires then ok, but I dont see why they would. So if a ship is going to actually be on fire or throwing sparks or w/e a decade after it crashes, put some good thought into why, or it wont make much sense.

From a paint R&D Chemist. Sanding is a really good idea, but ideally do it before you wash the surface. All this fine dust can also cause adhesion problems. IPA is the right way to go with cleaning the surface. If you want to prevent adhesion problems, go find some industrial special developed coatings with good adhesion to polystyrene, which is the plastic GW is using. I don't know the quality of the Citadel paints, but i have a feeling that their price does not reflect the actual quality of the paint. However the upside of the citadel paints and similar brands of paint is, that it is easy and already developed, to be used by hand. But high quality paint can really outshine lower quality stuff when it comes to mechanical properties, such as wet and dry adhesion. If you want to test the adhesion of the coating, apply an even coat on a leftover piece of plastic. let it dry compleatly. Thereafter use a knife, and cut a X in the coating. Cover the x with 1 piece of tape, and pull it off in one go. This is the test we used to compare the adhesion (atleast on wood and composite materials) for paints.

In the workshop area, you can add some vertical interest to guide the viewers eye down to the craft and ground details where the story of the lone fire warrior having the goal of building a rudimentary beacon to rescue the valuble technology bodged out of scrap from the ship and nearby salvage and rigging various suits and traps around the perimeter. He is just kicking it until help arrives but his caution is well founded as in the foliage at the edge you can hide univited guests such as orcs, genestealers or even Katachan jungle warriors stalking the Tau prey if its tropical surroundings. This way once the viewer follows the limes.of the ship they are led various little details and nice touches. You could even have a little competition to try and see who can spot the correct number of jungle fighters or other xenos caught in traps and hiding to win some of the Tau you mentioned as potential giveaway.

You guys illustrated the two biggest problems I have with Forge World. The release agent, and the warping. I bought a Mastodon from them a while back, and it's infuriating to pay 500+ dollars for a model and the pieces don't fit properly. Let alone a 2000+ dollar model. If anyone is spending that much on a product, every single piece should be damn-near perfect.

Thanks for an awesome video! One reason that the paint didn't stick in the surface might be that you used way too much Fairy detergent. You don't never put it directly into the surface. And even when you mix it with water, you don't need a much. Because it takes a lot of extra time to clean the detergent from the surface and the cleaning result is not as good if you use it only a little. Knowing because I'm close to that industry :)

I've always loved how nature is able to go through anything, so I was thinking, what about this: -One of the wings of the manta pierced by a big tree, and you can clearly see the cables and rest of the ship along the trunk of the tree as it progressively grew overtime. if not, another idea could be to have one little pond of fuel/acid that spilled from the ship so the dirt around the pond could be corroded and burnt but still some resistant alien fungi/mushrooms grow on the sides of the pond as they don't care what it is they are strong as heck.

if you want the quality you expect from it, it would cost 20grand and not only 2grand. They do not produce millions of it, so every part has to pay a lot of the tooling cost at all. The warping is shit for sure. Seems like the producer does not let em cool out long enough or the parts itself are not well designed to easily warp. On the other hand, half of the cutting squidmar did, could be avoidable by put the parts together first, see whats not fitting, warp it back and then glue it. The way he did it, with every adjustment he made it harder for the next part to fit. You can see in the clip, that with every minute the differences get bigger and thats not essentially a problem of the material, but also how its been handled.

@@Kermitt_Frog I would cost 20K if it was plastic. There is not a huge tooling cost for resin. The molds last for 30-40 reproductions if they are not handdled by apes pulling and tearing them apart, so every 30+ Mantas (meaning 60000 euros) FW has to spend around 250 euros for silicone molds. Would a de greaser work? I use it to clean oil barrels covered in grease and oil before painting them, and it pretty much strips the paint off just from spraying it on the metal. You just spray and wipe and the paint comes right off including any oil on top of the paint. Its not great if you dont want to strip paint under the oil or grease though. This is just a standard de greaser from any auto store. If it can strip literal oil and paint off of metal in one spray, I assume it would work? It definitely isn't ipa though as it doesn't have that smell. It is some sort of chemical concoction that absolutely destroys oils and leaves surfaces feeling like they were just sanded. Wouldn't doubt if it causes cancer though. Most auto chemicals do.

He was telling about how he has enjoyed process of building the model and how it was inspiring for him….and then this “premium product”… I can understand “enjoying ascetics”, but at some point you should ask yourself if it worth it. I better buy 5 perfect grades from Bandai, than 1 model like this. IMHO.

And this is with just “mass produced plastic kit”. I’m not expecting “handmade, extremely expensive kit” to be perfect, but some level of QC is expected. I don’t really care if this product is 20 years old, GW have resources to improve their molds and models, they even can use 3D printer to create this models. Almost all videos about Forgedworld products have similarities- warped parts, missing parts, bad instructions - and all this is about products 10 to 100 times more expensive then average plastic kit from Tamiya or Bandai. Yes, I like to buy Titan for myself, because there is nothing like that (maybe some resin Gundam kits, but they have different ascetics), but at the same time it’s possible to buy 3d printer and print analog with roughly same quality for less money…. The background story: Perhaps some of the Fire Warriors on board your Manta managed to escape the crash via emergency escape pods in board. My idea: You or someone else can design a 3D printer file of a Mantra themed Escape Pod. Then you could give away the extra Fire Warriors and make the 3D print file for the escape pod available for download. This way several others could paint up a part of the model and display it on their shelf of models in the escape pod - or out of it and surviving in their own mini diarama on whatever planet or ship it managed to take the occupant to. It would become the "largest" 40K themed diorama with the "furthest spread out parts" in the world! It could even be used as another charity fundraiser.

The release agent is real pain in the ass, and I ususaly use two methods to fix the problem. The first is using agrume based solvents wich can be diluted up to 10% in tepid water and let it soak about 2 days. The solvent proved to be hignly efficient against any release agent I encountered with no high toxicity. PU resin are very reselient again most of the chemicals you can throw at them. The only one product able to melt it is near impossible to buy as its toxicity is far too high for non-professionnal use and too complicated with its waste management. The other solution I found for big bits is quite an extremist one and proves to be HIGHLY DANGEROUS. But its efficiency being equal to its danger level... It is soaking the big bits in a slightly water diluted caustic soda bath. To cleanse it from CS residues, pieces need to be rinced with a mix of water an acetic acid (household vineager - acid neutralizing the basic CS, and makes the bitz grippy very quickly) This method was succefully used on FW Zone Mortalis tiles wich resisted all form of washing and were previously unable to get paint stuck on it, the paint simply and purely stripping away in large flakes... NOT recommended for beginners or people unfamiliar with handling hazardous chemicals, and NOT INSIDE your appartment of course, requires the use of a face shield, googles and special chemical resistant clothing and gloves... Extreme conditions demand extreme responses...
