Northmen is a quite vague term to use. Since that inculdes Danes,Swedes and Norwegians at that time. The battle of stamford brigde was part of the Norwegian invasion of anglo saxon england.

There is alot more diffrence between the countries due to diffrent areas of exploration. Norwegians and Dane vikings attacked England more while Swedes became more beautiful becuase their vikings went up the river Volga into modern day Russia and took every beautiful women they found and brought them home it made Swedes alot more beautiful. We see the effect of this today when people vote on how good looking they think Norweigian men are vs their women the men always lose out but Sweden is the exception in the world dating scene Swedish men are equally attractive to their female counterpart this is unheard of in any other country and is thanks to the great taste of their vikings ancistors. Here is the discription from a muslim writer named Ahmad Ibn Fadlan who met Swedish vikings on the shores of the river Volga: "I have never seen more perfect physical specimens, tall as date palms, blond and ruddy; they wear neither tunics nor kaftans, but the men wear a garment which covers one side of the body and leaves a hand free. Each man has an axe, a sword, and a knife, and keeps each by him at all times. Each woman wears on either breast a box of iron, silver, copper, or gold; the value of the box indicates the wealth of the husband. Each box has a ring from which depends a knife. The women wear neck-rings of gold and silver. Their most prized ornaments are green glass beads. They string them as necklaces for their women."

It is unlikely that Harold would just keep sending man after man to be killed, such numbers tend to be exaggerated to make the feat of bravery seem more impressive. If it did happen it was still a good effort from the Norseman.

Vikings are so incredibly overrated, mainly because of Hollywood, but in reality they never did anything worthy of praise, and got kicked around by the Mediterraneans and Middle Easterners and got their butts handed to them so hard by Native Americans armed with only Bone, wood and stone weaponry, that the Vimings invented the legend of the "Skraeling" LMAO!!!

This absolutely never happened! This guy said the Viking was struck by an arrow. So was that the only arrow the English had? If they could hit him with one arrow then why not stand along the river bank and pepper him with arrows until he died? Now the guy in the river. Would the Viking not see him floating along and simply alter where he was on the bridge? It is a nice story but it is a fairy tale!

1. It’s one man, you generally don’t expect him to manage 40 men on his own, that’s why they didn’t do the “most logical thing”, because a single man taking on 40 isn’t logical, and they couldn’t perceive the future you know 2. He was busy trying to keep an entire army from crossing a bridge by himself, it’s not that hard to believe the guy in the barrel passed unnoticed. Besides, it seems he floated and stabbed from under the bridge, how would that be easy to notice? Someone that’s attacking you from under? 3. You see, there are actually multiple possible ways to justify the factors you doubt because there are multiple factors that need to be taken in account, and that just weren’t addressed in this 5 min (or so) video. You simply don’t have enough information to doubt so harshly something that is taken as a very likely factious historical event in account to historical evidence and historians consensus. It’s kind of like flat earthers throwing shit at science and feeling entitled to do so because they take a superficial glance at scientific facts and interpret that as all the evidence they need. Certainly there's a ton of other reasons that explain the whys to your questions (but I tried to cover them up by myself in 1 and 2)
@pipizaopipizon8246
@pipizaopipizon8246 5 жыл бұрын
Complimenting what I said, they wanted to rush in before the other army could arrange itself, so getting archers in formation to shoot down one single guy isn’t really the thing they would be considering, and after you rushed your army through the bridge expecting that one guy to be massacred in seconds, pulling the army back to throw arrows at him just isn’t happening, it’s one dude, maybe if he took 140 men and no one did the barrel thing before that they would actually change the whole tactic just to take him down, but otherwise it just doesn’t make sense in a realistic scenario. And trying to take him down through means that don’t involve retreating your army, like with the barrel thing, makes more sense. Eventually he would die, it was just an unfortunate anomaly for the opposing army

It was a spear supposedly that was used and why would all sources, to my knowledge at least, come from the English on this matter of the lone axeman? Why make the enemy seem more dominate and belittle yourself? Also, bowman aren't typically at the front of the army so they probably had no idea what was going on and never used arrows on the axeman. I could be wrong of course.
