The Golden State Warriors ARE WASTING Steph Curry's MVP Season according to Gilbert Arenas and the Gil's Arena Crew as they examine the current state of the Dubs and deduce that Steph simply needs more help from Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Chris Paul and Draymond Green. They also dive into the history of the Draymond Green Jordan Poole punch and explore how its lasting effects are impacting this season.
Gil’s Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

Poole was the 3rd leading scorer for the past 2 seasons. Last year he averaged 20ppg and when Steph got injured his average jumped to 26ppg. When they traded him they lost a big piece of their offense. Rashad is also right in that Poole and Wiggins were tight. Poole was miced up on the sidelines alot and he was always encouraging Wiggins. Wiggs is so introverted so he never says anything but you always saw Poole cheering him on. I think he does miss that. Reporters who follow the Warriors have mentioned it too.

A lot of people who don't REALLY follow the team or watch every game, aka box score watchers, dont realize that Poole was a mirage. Those 20 points came with like 5 turnovers and 30 opposing points from the other team hunting him. Poole sucks. We don't miss him. Look no further than what he's doing rn in Washington to see him stripped of everything that masked the other side of that 20 pts.

I thought what he said was making complete sense. I dont know why Gil and Cole didn't understand it. Wiggins could play more free without having some pressure in his head "Like damnn, Curry threw me the ball, I'm 100% the 3rd or maybe 2nd option, and they NEED me to be great with this shot." Compared to, "Poole is out here doin a bunch of crazy shit, I might be the 4th option, let me have fun with this too". That's how I look at it. The mental part can be a huge thing. And then also Poole just playing so fast and being unpredictable, defense caught trying to help on a little drive and Wiggins slashing for a drop off.

Different looks on offence with a traditional big would help the Warriors (A LOT). Klay has lost speed so he needs dribble penetration or an inside big to set him up. But is the Warriors main issue not on point of attack defence? All teams with young and athletic guards (Kings, Thunder, Cavs) feast on their defence. Kerr also needs to give the young / hungry guys a chance

I like Klay but he definitely should have added more to his bag. That's my opinion from the outside looking in. I think Klay is trying to play within the offense GS runs. At the same time opposing teams have years of film on him and Steph. The difference is Steph could always dribble but steph also added more to his bag. Steph can run you to death and he is comfortable shooting off the dribble. Klay to me is a really good player he just needs to make tweaks to his game and not be predictable. I hope he gets it together by the break.

I usually neverrr agree with mcant 😂😂 but he’s definitely right about the Jordan poole Wiggins debate . Having Jordan definitely took the pressure off Wiggins and a lot of other players to where they were able to get easy buckets because the attention was on Jordan . The back door cuts, kick out 3s from paint touches , it was definitely easier for Wiggins to catch a groove . Now with cp3 he is expect to catch the ball and go score instead being able to play off the ball and hit his back cuts and ISO’s

This is the problem with Wiggs that Minnesota knew and got rid of him when they could. He could be more if he put the time in, but he never does. Add that to a similar mindset in Klay and Draymond's limitations, it equals Curry not having another prime option offensively.

I think some of this has to fall on coaching. Wiggins been on the team long enough now to play to acclimatize himself and give the team what it needs. If the coaching staff demand more of him, he should be able to provide that. However, the onus is on him to step up. Iggy ain’t there anymore to gas him up. As for Klay… I don’t see him adding anything to his game this late in his career. All he needs is to get hot consistently. Either that or he needs to play less minutes to get a player like Wiggins more touches so he can get going.

The issue is that the Warriors system IS built around finding Steph, so young players in particular struggle to find PT and excel at the rate guys like Herro and them can, because the only way they can see the court, is by defending and playing smart. It's why the struggles in my opinion fall more on Wiggins than anyone. He should be able to go get 20 a night as a veteran and proven scorer, but he simply doesn't have that mentality. He'd rather just blend into the background. I hope the Warriors package something like Wiggins, Moody, and a pick for DeMar Derozan, or someone like that who can ACTUALLY go get a bucket on their own, cause right now, aside from Steph? Not a soul on that roster can create for themselves.

Did you know that Moody is currently the #2 best Defensive Guard in the league in terms of opponent fg%? He's also about a 37% 3pt shooter 3 years in a row, can handle and break down a defense and pass the ball. Kuminga has been somewhat inconsistent but has steadily trended upwards for the season and just had 21pts last night on efficient shooting. Maybe the issue lies elsewhere in their playing time, and not in their current development as 21 year olds.

They should of never sat poole out to put klay back in the starting lineup as soon as he was healed. They need a player like poole that can score, not just a shooter like klay. They need a playmaker that can play iso and put up 30+ points a night. Poole did make wiggins job easier in that regard cause wiggins can focus on defense and put backs, rebounds, etc. now u see wiggins looking like he needs to try and contribute offensively when that wasn’t that with poole on the team when they won the championship.

Although the core has been together, the function of the core has taken a drastic change. Steph doesn’t have the ball, Dre is not needed to be the point from the free throw. They simply have to realize that they have a traditional 5 with one of the best PG’s in the game. Conversely, CP will get used to where guys like to get the ball. Wiggins should come off the bench for Clay, CP or Steph and they can switch their style of play.

Three years ago all he could do was shoot but he improved his dribble tremendously and is going to get a nice new contract in the future. Klay as he got older should have added more muscle too so he can take guys in the post to help with the lost of speed.

You have pointed out the problems of GSW clearly. You have also pointed out what improvements are needed clearly. The things that you are saying, and the points that you are making are the responsibilities of the Head Coach and the coaching staff. Management and GM has given the coaches everything they have asked for and needed. Have you ever wondered why the starting 5 of GSW last year was number one in the NBA statistically, yet, they were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers? Each year they have not reached the championship, good reasons have been offered, and the management has made adjustments, but the results have been the same. So, we should look at what was common in the years that GSW did not win the Championship. There has been very little change in the players, so you should look at the changes that have occurred with the coaching staff and the events that happened to GSW after the changes. When you impartially examine this data, you will see that the talent, the roster, home games versus away games, and injuries are not your problem because these things are common every season. You will find that the greatest deciding factor when everyone has talent is the coach.

The real issue to me is the Steph, Klay, CP3 lineup (or any smaller lineup that Klay plays in a LOT more this year). This is for the exact reasons mentioned in this vid. In those lineups Klay has to crash the boards and sometimes even play the 4 (remember Kerr and Klay talking about just that in the preseason?). This means Klay misses out on all those fast breaks when he can just run out on the break and those fast break Klay 3s that he thrives in. Most of hist 3s this season are from half court actions which is just much easier to guard. Klay can hit those when he is hot but it takes him getting clean looks caused by transition to get him hot enough to take the crazy ones he makes in those half court sets. I think Kerr realizes this and is playing Klay with the second unit more with cp3 as point. Then Klay is at the 2 and can get out and run. That lineup is performing well I believe. But I haven't looked up the stats so I could be full of shit. I'm eating popcorn and don't have the motivation to go look. I hate myself too.
