I don't think anyone has sent it off to get tested. I made a video last week about SHUs. I don't think they really matter that much. In part because peppers burn differently, but mostly people lie, and some are able to manipulate labs or lab results to reflect SHUs that aren't accurate. imo

@mercster3 ай бұрын
"Capsaicin is present in large quantities in the placental tissue (which holds the seeds), the internal membranes, and to a lesser extent, the other fleshy parts of the fruits of plants in this genus. The seeds themselves do not produce any capsaicin, although the highest concentration of capsaicin can be found in the white pith around the seeds. Most of the capsaicin in a pungent (hot) pepper is concentrated in blisters on the epidermis of the interior ribs (septa) that divide the chambers, or locules, of the fruit to which the seeds are attached." It's a philosophical question as to whether that means "IN the pith (placenta)" or not. Macroscopically, sure. The fact is, the small structures that contain the actual highest levels of capsaicin are impossible to see with the naked eye. You could also make a case that the seeds DO have heat; not on their inner structure, but if the seeds are covered in capsaicin-containing oils, removing seeds would remove some of the "heat" of the pepper. Thus it would be inaccurate to say "Removing the seeds doesn't lessen the heat of the pepper!" Because it does... just not in the way some would colloquially assume. Essentially, it's ridiculous to get into debates about this between non-experts. It's people doing mental masturbation and trying to "win" an argument.

To the best of my knowledge, the placenta is what makes the oil. One could argue that the placenta itself isn’t hot, just all the oils around it (much like you say with seeds), but that’s a tough argument imho.
@ChaseTheHeat3 ай бұрын
I am researching it now
@MikeRudd723 ай бұрын
@@ChaseTheHeat Capsaicin is primarily stored in the pithy, seed-studded flesh, or placenta, of the pepper, which is located near the stem and extends along the inner ribs. It is a common misconception that the seeds contain the most capsaicin, but they actually have little to none; the highest concentration is in the placenta. Capsaicin is the heat.

Almost every fruit I've eaten is sweet, so what do you mean when you say, "fruity" if there's no sweetness? Those descriptions don't inform me of any flavor I can connect those words to. What kind of fruit are you connecting the peppers to when you say fruity and what flavor is......"floral" most closely tied to? It's kind of like you drinking a can of engine oil and then telling me it tastes very blue. I've never drank engine oil and have no idea what, "blue" tastes like....if you get my meaning. Just asking for better clarification.
