Well, I'm mostly confused by that. I don't know if it's because I'm tone deaf, or because of the cultural gap, or something else, but I didn't understand it at all.

I feel like this might be slightly disrespectful to say, but I recognize that rhetoric, from other, similar works that I just can't interface with properly, like Picasso's Guernica. I can sometimes appreciate such works as the expressions they are, but I have grown up so far away from war (in a mostly geographical sense) that the messages in such works don't resonate with me. I could see myself coming back to this in 30 years and finally "getting" it -- much like I've recently become enamored with musicians like Billy Joel, Bob Seger, and Bruce Springsteen in ways I could _never_ have appreciated when I was younger -- but right now I don't have the proper frame of reference to properly interface with this.
