I review, breakdown and explain The Watchers. I discuss the 2024 movie which is directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan starring Dakota Fanning. I react to the ending, compare the book to the movie and also analyse the fairies and changeling creatures that were in the forrest.

No shade to anyone who worked hard on this movie, but for anyone who was disappointed in the film, the book by A.M. Shine is MUCH better. In fact, "Stay In The Light", the sequel to A.M. Don't turn your back to the glass: They can't see your face, thus they cannot mimic you. Don't go near the burrows: Death? They lived down there, so going in kept you out of the light. You'd die. Opening the door after sunset: Same as above. You are out of the light, thus you will die. The rules were there to keep them "safe". Mina broke the rules because she was at a point in her life where she didn't care or was very brave, but she was extremely curious as well and wanted to know what the hell was going on. She wanted to leave too, so she broke the rules to figure it out. If she hadn't broken them, they would all be there still and they would have never found the hatch to the bunker below. I really enjoyed it. The ending when Madeline was in the house before the one character came home was surprising. I knew something was up with Madeline and I assumed she was one of them. I figured she was there to give them rules, so they would stay and the Watchers could observe them until the end. I thought she was in on it the whole time. Super fun movie in my opinion. Good to see Dakota Fanning back on screen.

I just knew one of them was gonna be the changeling. My first suspect was the old lady after she told her first time meeting one and taking her form and she knew just what they wanted them to do. And also the scene where she explained about changlings mating with humans (Though there were some scenes to throw you off) And the second, the protagonist after recalling how she liked to change her appearance to meet guys in bars and her fondness for the caged bird (like how the watcher liked watching the humans and maybe she didn't know she was changling). Some parts were really stupid though, i would have found the bunker within hours out of boredom. And who and how the hell even built that bunker, and where were the changlings when they were building it? The old lady even said she went there by choice so why didn't they even think of questioning her after they found the bunker? The glass didn't even make sense as they seemed to easily crack it when they tried so how did the professor even manage to study them from inside that? And also like you said, how did that bird became a gps? Maybe it's just me but I just couldn't ignore those missing details and mixing in fantasy with the horror was so weird. Visually stunning though and the irony of the watchers and the ones being watched was funny but

"The Watchers" is the debut feature of Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of director M. Night Shyamalan who is one of the film's producers. Ishana herself wrote the script based on the novel of the same name by A. M. Shine, achieving an interesting story that revolves around folk horror and a dark fairy tale, in addition to doing a great job as a director. The cast gives good performances, Dakota Fanning performs a magnificent role, Georgina Campbell plays a tender role with mastery and Olwen Fouéré demonstrates once again her histrionic ability and her Scream Queen skills. The cinematography work is top-notch, managing to capture a gloomy atmosphere in the filming locations. The soundtrack composed of traditional Irish bagpipes is effective for the story. "The Watchers" is a great film that plays with horror and fantasy.

Didn't she just do a film adaptation of a book that already existed? I don't know, for me that doesn't require as much criticism because it requires a little less creative input (at least where the story is concerned) I feel like if people dislike the ending, they should mostly take it up with the book's author (considering they're identical)

Naw.. movie was too predictable. I didn't even think it was a horror. And I agree the Madeline character gave it away by explaining the "Cloning" and showed her cloned so I was like "Oh she knows too much that's not original" and then the door on the floor was M.Night-ish but I expected that already.

This movie was a 1/10 in my opinion. I was hoping M. Night’s Daughter would learn from her Father’s mistakes. The storyline was weak. Low budget CGI. This had some decent elements that could have taken the movie further, however it felt thrown together in three days. A disappointment and another Spring/ Summer movie that took my money. The Strangers was another tragic let down. Both movies are terrible.

This movie was decent but my god that last part ruined it for me. Like the movie went hey audience if dont know still lets explain it all over and drag this out so you get it. It had 2 good areas to cut and leave questions. 1 should cut after the escape with maybe a hint she was one of them. 2 end when fannings character saw and image of her.

So...the half-lings were Daywalkers? M.Night needs to be a bit more visual. Some of his images don't translate well in his movies...except for the 6th Sense. This movie was a hit or miss presentation. The cast was fantastic......but,wasted on this film. Nicely done critique...thanks!

Completely agree with your viewpoints. In my opinion, this movie doesn't have any logic or sense. Changelings? I never heard about this word nor there's any clarity on this. In the end, the ghost changing the faces was looked childish. I watched the movie in theater because of Shyamlan brand. Some scenes from this movie looked like Shyamlan's other movies The Village, Signs etc. Nothing great about this movie as the story is very weak.
